  • Here is a quick video tutorial on how to relamp vintage c-6 Krystal Stars and Rosettes and how to create a new backing. In this video I will show several ways to make backings for these lights which seem to have disintegrated over time. I need to add a disclaimer here. If you are afraid of the backings I show in the video, of catching on fire, then I beg you not to relamp your own lights and hire a professional to do the job. I will not be responsible for folks that burn down their homes for using wrong materials and not doing it properly as well. Please note that this video, as well as my other videos, are only meant to give you ideas. THEY ARE NOT DELIVERED BY GOD'S HAND TO ME. You may need to tweak for your own purposes. If you have a better way of doing it then please make a video and share it. I would love to see other ideas. SINCE AIRING THIS VIDEO, I HAVE DECIDED TO MAKE ANOTHER VIDEO SHOWING HOW TO RELAMP THESE LIGHTS USING GASKET MATERIAL. THE VIDEO GOES BY THE SAME NAME ONLY PART 2 ON THE END.

Heh Scott. Just wanting to let you know how great your videos are. Nothing beats the old c6 and bubble lights. By watching your videos I've been able to get the bulbs and supplies I need to relamp my burnt out bubble lights and using your tips on how to do it. Had another year of showing them off for friends and relatives. I had a young couple from across the road come over with their three kids to see my tree and tell them about the old lights. They were really thrilled. Kind of brought back some of the old Christmas magic for them. Thanks again for all your help in keeping the charm of Christmases past alive!

Great video, Scott. Thankyou for making these. Its tricky to find info on fixing these vintage lights. I have a few of these that work but someday I'll need to relamp them. Thanks for the info.

Thanks Tod, I remember the days before youtube and trying to figure out how to do these things on my own. So it's great to be able to share info with people.

what type of glue do you use to glue lightbulb? excellent videos

I normally use Aileen's tacky or super tacky glue....I like it because it is water soluble and if you need to remove you can soak in water to loosen a burnt out bulb. However, I will admit that Aileen's tacky glue will soften when hot.....So you may want to go for something that will harden and stay hard. I actually like wood glue as that stuff gets hard and holds. You can ask to join our Christmas lighting Facebook group and ask our members what they like to use, if you are a facebooker. here is the link.....facebook.com/groups/475901481145293

When you hold something up to the camera, hold your hand behind it so the camera focuses on that and not the distant background. Too blurry to read and see what you're doing. 👍

If a Rosette light has lost a lot of its color on the plastic points, how do I recover the color?
Does anyone know of a substance to re-add the color?

The best way to recolor things with clear colors is to use alcohol inks. The cheapest way to do it is using a sharpie, but since the surface of a rosette is so rough, it might be hard to get the color into the deep crevices. I am a member of a facebook page of christmas light collectors and we have discussed the issues with Rosettes and Krystal stars. Some of the page members have completely restored their rosettes and stars. If you are not a member, you might want to join. the groups name on facebook is Christmas Lighting Of Yesterday And Today. You have to ask to be let in and you will need to answer our 3 required questions for admission. The page is filled with many folks that love keeping their Christmas lights alive. here is a link to the page....facebook.com/groups/1731759127043838/
