  • This wonderful tree was hand made and built by Golden Glow members, The Petrins. It displays the very collectible Merry Glow Round Electric Rotating Tree Toppers and Ornaments. Very little is known about these wonderful decorations. They were produced by the Guilden Development Company in Elizabeth, NJ in the late1960's and early 1970's. Although many folks believe that the heat from the light bulb creates the spinning effect, that is wrong. They are driven by a magnetic force that the base of the light bulb and or socket give off. This causes a repelling type action that makes them spin. If you realize that you may have valuable (or non valuable) information about them, or their company, please shoot me a message.

I own 38 of these. They were invented in Europe in 1946 and the last year they were produced was 1990. I have blue , green , red , gold and white. They come up for sale on Ebay every Christmas season. They run 🏃 between around $ 30.00 to $ 100.00. I bought my first set in 1968. In 1969 they had a colored ring 💍 around the middle, presumably to keep from getting stuck in the branches of Christmas Trees. They were a challenge to engineer. The patents on them have long expired. The boxes that they came in suspeciously had no manufacturer identification on them. That area in New Jersey 🇯🇪 where they were made has allot of strange activity around it. I am from New York City. Macys sold them in tha late 1960s. In 1968 they were $ 5.00 for 4.

Hi Robert, I m interested in your information. I have only been aware of them being made by one company in the late 1970's. So I am curious as to your statement about them being invented in 1946. Later you state that they were available in the 1960's, but all current info leads to them just being produced between 1975ish to possibly 1982ish at the latest. You state that their boxes have no manufacturer marks, but all of my boxes state that they were made by Guilden Development Co., Inc of 107 Trumbull Street, Elizabeth NJ 07206. They were located in the old Singer Sewing machine building. It appears that many little companies like this one, must have rented spaces in that building, for their businesses. Anyway, Many folks would be interested in any information that can be made available in the manufacture of these items. Sadly we just learned that the owner of Guilden has recently passed. I had tried to contact him several times, but he never reached out. I would be interested in talking with you, I can be reached at c6lites@gmail.com I hope to hear from you.

I had a merry glow tree topper that was flocked white, in the shape of a spire with Sputnik arms around it. It had a green and red rotating center. I foolishly sold it for about $500. a couple years go. Big mistake. That display is just cool.

C6lites I have a question. So I have bubble lights on my tree and there’s always this one and it doesn’t bubble ever. Would you know how to fix it. And also your lights look great.

To answer your non-bubbling question…. You can try what many people do…You can take the light and shake it vigorously and put it back and hopefully it will then bubble. Next….Sometimes after years of use, the plastic distorts, and causes the tube to separate from the light bulb. Soak the bubble light in hot water and remove the bubble tube. Clean off ALL old glue, then try to get something skinny that you can try to clean off the old glue from the light bulb, BEING SURE NOT TO BREAK THE LIGHT BULB!!!! Next shake the tube vigorously to break up the bubbling medium in the bottom of the tube. Then put a drop of water soluble glue (like Aileen’s) on the bottom of the tube, and place it back into the plastic. Be sure to snug the tube to the light bulb (THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!!!), MAKING SURE NOT TO PUSH TO HARD AND BREAK THE BULB!!! If none of these work then you may just have a bad bubbler, that has bad methylene chloride in it, or little, to no, vacuum in the tube (this is most likely, and cannot be fixed) Finally my last advice is to take a penny or nickel and tap the tube right where it comes out of the plastic, this may often get if bubbling. But you may have to do it everytime you light it. Lastly, you may want to join a great Facebook page that I belong to…. Christmas Lighting of Yesterday And Today. Link is here facebook.com/groups/1731759127043838/ this site is filled with most of biggest Xmas lighting dweebs that will be happy to help you with Xmas lighting troubles.
