My first visits to Liverpool were in the '80's, but I don't remember the waterfront very well. I was just glad to take the ferry! Thanks for the photos.

Ah, some of the sweetest moments of my visits to Liverpool. I first heard the song as a kid in grade school, and it made its mark on my heart.

All original names of The Birkenhead Ferries were named after Wirral / Birkenhead areas. Royal Iris & Royal Daffodil - were 'different designs' and usually only operated between New Brighton, Wallasey & Liverpool. The Norwegian Vikings only arrived (from Dublin), on Wirral in 903ad (first crossing to Formby between settlements later on... !). Birkenhead Priory was built (by the six monks), around 1080+ - Birkenhead Ferries started around 1100 a.d, from Monks Ferry - manned by the monks, from Birkenhead Priory - over 100 years before Liverpool even existed, and could have initiated Liverpool, due to the short distance between docks / 'pool. Liverpool council / 'Mersey Ferries' are trying to take away Wirral / Birkenhead Heritage by renaming the Ferries - a very Dirty Trick. Since they started (until only recently), ALL ferry payments (used by the Monks to pay taxes to the Crown of England), were taken on Wirral ONLY - same as the Tunnels. This is just an example of Liverpool 'twisting and creaming' off history. I suppose the Boy Scout movement did not have it's inaugural meeting in Grange Road, Birkenhead 7/8th January 1908 either - that must have been in Liverpool too. Birkenhead Park is NOT in Liverpool either - before you mess that up. Apologise please to The Mayor and People of Wirral - and learn to relate history correctly - IDIOTS.

Dissatisfied not how it’s titled

Given Liverpools long maritime history and the essential part played by the "ferry's across the mersey" they should of all had a better ending and become cruising ships during the Summer time. I well remember the Royal Iris doing just that, and what a great boat is was, New Brighten in the busy period.. up to the Liverpool Bar during cruising times, and down to just passed the Anglican Cathedral and back to the Pier head.. What a great day, bands, food and bevvies..

To Albert Moore. Let us all hope that we may see HMS Queen Elizabeth on the River Mersey? As you mentioned with the F35s on the ship. If you can listen to Radio Merseyside on Saturday mornings about 0745 to 0800, Stuart Wood retired Senior River Pilot is the man! Without his input about this Great Mersey we live near, I may not have found out about many events. From what a colleague has mentioned the F35 is manufactured in the USA by Lockheed Martin but the UK does provide 15% of components in its build. I hope this helps, if we do see the F35's again I will need a faster focussing camera. I did get a 2 second clip! Best Wishes Mike
