Lifelong San Diegan here. In order to be happy here you need to tolerate: skyhigh housing costs, lots of traffic, horrible streets, six-feet tall weeds, homeless people, high taxes across the board (income, property, gasoline, etc.), skyhigh energy costs (electricity, gas, gasoline) and grossly incompetent politicians. What do you get for all this nonsense? Good weather and natural beauty. Take away the weather and natural beauty and there is no reason to live here.

Colonists had to fend off wildlife as well. It's life. Better to have a dog that doesn't have floppy ears so they may be able to defend you. And carry a weapon (gasp!) and learn to wield one (gasp!) so you can fend off any threat anywhere.

I live in New Jersey.We banned plastic bags,which is great!!Got to bring bags for most shopping. They are now allowing Department Stores to have paper bags . Obviously we are scared of the larger wildlife. It is their home as well.They need to live.At least you have more open space.We are building on every square inch of nature here.Its awful.

Coyotes and mountain lions are a worry all over the state. Not just isolated to San Diego. The charging of plastic grocery bags is a state thing also, not just isolated to San Diego. Didn't know you had to pay for kids to ride the bus to school though. Sounds like a rip off considering you're already paying taxes to the school district for those types of services.

I love living San Diego, but would never live in LA. I would consider Orange County though. I'm fine with making the trek up the coast to visit LA. That's enough for me.

We have been on the sidelines since Spring but actually put an offer on a house about 3 weeks ago in the twin oaks area of San Marcos. We got outbid! But the property was phenomenal, so understandable why it didn't last long. Everything else we've looked at feels like it's overpriced. We're talking about Oceanside, Carlsbad, San Marcos, etc. the asking prices are outrageous when just a year ago they were going for 25% less. No thank you! Yes, there's less inventory but this is borderline greed. I'm seeing really nice properties that are overpriced just sit. We are practicing patience at this point. In no hurry whatsoever. Let the market come to us!
