Straight up the only accurate way to find the pool leak
What is on the inside of the building that you are screwing the header too? The gutter comes down below the top board on the inside of mine.
@@TJMcClure-hs8cs this building had two 2x8 ledger boards nailed to the posts that the roof trusses sat on. Our header board outside screwed into that outside 2x8.
I can't find the link, to the other video you mentioned? Thanks
@@dennisloiselle5615 hey I have a pool playlist with a few different videos. You're probably asking about the bottom drain video. It is in this playlist as well, check it out! ruclips.net/p/PLh0Pr5wMGTmgd29Uu1RY7N6OryK12UUur&si=MxRz7c4X3hJFW1Cz
A friend of mine made up a solar trailer on his back yard. A large tandem wheel unit that has an inverter and a switchboard and battery pack, plus fold out arms for the solar array and it sits in his yard facing the sun. The local city had a fit when they saw it and asked him to remove it --he counted the argument by saying what about the person next door with his big motor home. Then they countered and said the trailer had no road permits. They lost the case as the city would have had every truck and car and trailer off the road removed from everyone's home in that city. He is considering making hot houses made aluminum frame with solar panels batteries and inverter for the home gardener-- Ha Ha Ha. Tied into the home via a light activated change over relay switch in the fuse box in the home for nighttime use. A brilliant system to bypass the bullshit.
I also used a regulator with an oil-free compressor so I could stay underwater with the weighted vest. Sometimes I just stay under there for an hour cleaning the pool by hand it's so relaxing under there.
What does the header board secure to on the building? Just the metal sheeting?
@@JONNYROCKIT99 hey Jonny! The boards against the barn are screwed through the metal and into the large 2x10 header boards the barn rafters sit on. Basically just sandwiching the sheet metal between the two header boards.
Please tell us the measurements: how far apart are your post: how far apart are your 2x,s
Rewatched again! Love it!
How many miles on were on the car when you replaced this bearing?
I don't recall exactly, maybe 80k? It was less than 100.
Nice job
Thanks! Check out my channel or subscribe for other pool tips!
Only thing I am confused about is you said you are doing this with 1 1/2” pipe, but two of the three links you gave us are for 2 inch pipes.
@@matthewvanacore4452 the 3 way valve is 1.5". The intake screen is 2" because I couldn't find any other nice looking screen at 1.5". The check valve is 2" because I wanted the larger flapper to have the least amount of flow restriction through the check valve. I used 3, reducer bushings (one at screen and one at each end of check valve) to go from 2" to 1.5" pipe. Hope that helps clarify!
Litten…
Great video.. I use a tooth pick to probe for holes, if their is a hole the point will go in. Then when I find them I will place a penny by it so I know where it is at if you have several.
Great tip with the penny! I used a weight to hold myself down underwater and I could leave it fairly close to the pinhole for reference.
The only problem i see with this is that above ground pool pumps aren't meant to produce suction. The water is gravity fed into the pump. By doing this you are putting unnecessary stress on the pump as its not meant to create suction. And secondary is that all manufacturers do not recommend that you walk, stand on the top rails of a above ground pool 🙄. I know that this video is what you did for yourself but it clearly shows what not to do with a above ground pool.
well now your comment is the only thing i see wrong with the thought process. one yes the sand filters don’t suck as hard as a in-ground system. but that’s apple and oranges. because at the end of the day inground pools have more water to move and suck aka bigger pumps. with the above ground system they have gph rating for a reason. you get a above ground you match it to the correct pump rating. so with that said how’s removing friction and travel length gonna hurt the pump more?. the pumps only gonna pull so much no matter what. now had he went with bigger pipe then yes he would have lost suction power. but seeing as how he used the same diameter pipes as the issued pipes there shouldn’t be on issues on stress relief.
Been running fine for a few years now.I could argue is actually no suction on the pump because the pump is still located below the pool water level so theres still 3-4' of head pressure of water above the pump. If the pump was located higher than the water level such as up on top of my deck, then yes I agree there would be suction and maybe hard on the pump.
As far as walking around the edge of the pool, hope I don't fall in!
Just got a replacement intex liner.... it has a small hole in the seam. Any tricks for fixing that sort of thing?
Send it back for new one.
Find the leak and patch it is all you can do. Unless you can return and replace it.
Bingo! I used the dye to easily find the pinhole and threw some clear gorilla tape, meant for this sort of thing on there, and no worries! Yet... lol... A pool is like a monster you build for yourself to fight all summer
@@upgrader99 glad you got it sealed up! I agree pools are such a maintenance pain. I want to get rid of ours so bad but our 4 year old loves swimming. So it stays.
Very nice. Makes a huge difference with good help. Getting up and down sux. Nice job
Thanks for the comment! Yes always good to have some experienced help!
Has anyone had experience trying to “patch” a track that’s torn to the center of the track but not thru the other side? I am just trying to limp thru my homesite and need another 100 hours out of it to be finally done. My other track is in decent condition and replacing one track seems kinda ….eh?
I maybe with steel straps and bolts like a conveyor belt is mended together. But I would just try to find used tracks off another machine. People usually try to get rid of them because they're so expensive to take to the landfill. I sold my old set for $100 or so if I recall
Real
Thank you for the video, looks pretty easy, but I think my hub hasn't been removed in 10 years, so wish me luck, with out brutal Montreal Winters, it's going to be fun!
You can do it! The best penetrating oil out there is kroil. If you can get that and soak that joint down a tad you'll get it out. Worst case rent a slide hammer puller tool from your local parts store.
Gouged the first birdsmouth, IMHO. Weaker?
I suppose it's just a tail.
Hi Neal, again, the check valve I follow the one posted it was 2 inch. I went and other the 2 inch in Amazon. I watch your video again and again and you said the valve ist true 1'1/2. I check Amazon and there is a 1 1/2. Tell me the 2 in is the wrong one right?
I used the 2" check valve for more flow through the check valve mechanism. I used 1.5" to 2" reducer bushings at both the inlet and outlet of the check valve to go from the 1.5" pipe to the 2" check valve. If you want to use the 1.5" check valve that would probably work too.
Hi, thanks for all your information. may i know where did you purchase your panels and the micro inverters. thanks!
How do you know how many tons you need?
Good Job .Thank you.
Thanks for the comment Mike!
Hello Neal I need clarification of what you use with Blue monster sealant and primer do you bought it separately? Do it come clear?
Hey there! The blue monster is sealant you put on threaded connections. The pvc slip connections are glued and you use a clear primer first to clean the pipe and fitting and then you use pvc cement to glue the fittings together and they are not removable. You can buy clear or purple primer so make sure you get clear cause the purple goes everywhere. It is used in hidden commercial applications so that inspectors can see that a joint was primed before gluing.
thank you!!!
You're welcome happy swimming!!
There are replacement top hooks being sold specifically made for this hitch with the bolt holes extended forward. One on AZ is $21. Although not as fancy, TS bushings are $5 each.
That extended hook would be a good fix! Too bad they don't come equipped that way. The tractor supply bushing you speak of might be the metal sleeves that slid over the pin. Those are typically used as a bushing between the pin and a rod eye if you are hooking up using pins instead of quick hitch. I had trouble finding ones that would slip over and be large enough diameter to fit nicely in the bottom hooks of the quick hitch. That's why I had to buy these larger aluminum ones. They enlarge the radius about 1/4 or 3/8" meaning diameter changes from 7/8 to 1-5/8
But maybe they sell them now like you mention this video is a few years old.
This was so helpful! Great tips! We had a leak and found it in a crease on the side of the wall.
Awesome glad you found it and hope you got it patched up! I'm going on 2 years on all my patches and no leaks.
I see camo, a couple of racks, flooded timber and ducks
Haha that could work! I imagine it would have been a sweet boat for the smokers in the movie waterworld.
I’m currently losing about an inch a day in a pool liner that’s on its 3rd year. This is the pool’s 3rd liner and 2nd newer liner in 5 years. I’ve about had it with this. I opened the pool this year to about 6” of water and couldn’t find anything!!
Well at least you know your leak is in the bottom 6" or so! You've narrowed it down a lot lol
Nice job, what does a system like that cost the customer?
I don't recall the pricing on this one but in Kentucky a 3 bedroom system runs around 8k then adders for curtain drain, low profile chambers, cover soil, or other site specific requirements.
How are you liking this? I bought one that angled at the base and feel like it creates more work
Great job, i was looking to do this myself but found your video. How far off the pool floor do you have the screen? Did you use 2” pipe or convert it from 2” to 1.5 at some point? Do you use a vacuum? If so what kind?
Whats the part number for the ripper?
Caterpillar part number 8J5299. Heavy duty pros part number 121270. Heavy duty pros has a ton of different sizes too.
That's the ripper shank only. Then you can select different types of teeth. I used pointed tip caterpillar 9W8209, heavy duty pros 133209. Don't forget the retaining pin and washer.
Alrighty, before I start my journey into this as suburbanite, you hooked me with your build. 1st video that RUclips suggested that seems very doable after the years, probably because I've been interested in the summer at the start of a dry spell. I'm diving deeper into the channel to see whatever progress/ problems you've encountered. Thanks for uploading this.
Thanks for the comment! I have a few videos about my design and install as well as follow ups. Today is June 15 2024 and it has been total problem free! It was installed in august of 2019. Lifetime power is 52.5 megawatt hours! Or 52,500 kilowatt hours! Our power runs around $0.13/kWh so that's $6800 saved so far.
Did your machine come with that flow valve or did you have to install one ? I'm trying to run a breaker attachment on a kx121-3 and i dont have one of those valves?
When sheeting I put minimal screws in until all sheets are up. then put the rest in. Each builder has different methods. Nothing wrong with this method.
Super helpful, thank you.
Freaked the dog out.
Just completed this same bearing replacement with 0 issues. Great tutorial!
Awesome! Glad to hear the video helped and hope your volt is running good!
Is it possible for me to find the holes without my pool having water in it first? By the way, amazing video man
Great video I have a 6x12 dump but barn doors I’m not sure how it will work?
Barn doors aren't good at all for spreading. You will not be able to clean spread. I fabricated this rear door myself.
What category is the shank and tooth listed under?
Opened my pool and water is waist height and Everytime i fill water it drops back , so should i look for holes with the water filled up or just try to find it with the water level low that it’s not losing water anymore? I’ve jumped in the pool and visibly can’t see anything don’t need goggles or anything because the water is below my waist but still having lots of trouble
Rewarched again, one my all time favs. skid steer usage and driveway work!
Thanks Aaron! Working on another today & tomorrow. A parking pad and a shed pad and widening a driveway.

Do you have a video of that little screen in room on your pole barn? I like that. What do you use it for?
Hey I don't really have a video on that. Actually the entire length of the barn was screened in, then I closed in 30' of it and left 10' open as a screened in porch. We keep kid toys and odds and ends in there. Then my wife uses the 10x30 enclosed part.
Hi Neal and everyone, I just wanna give an update of my vinyl pool leak (this can help the youtube community). My husband and I installed a new vinyl pool over the weekend. We completely filled up the water with a special pool filter connected to the hose around 6:30 PM (no leaks so far as we checked the drain). Our semiground vinyl pool 16x8 which contains 3775gallons, i bought from endless pool). The pool is made of steel walls with the thick concrete slab floor (the walls and floor are covered with strong Styrofoam film). The steel walls are surrounded with concrete walls. In addition the pool is connected with underground shelter where the motor, pipes and the drain are located. So what i was saying we filled up the pool on sunday evening( no leaks). The next day, memorial day we saw the water was getting lower, we checked the shelter and saw a flow of water puddle near the rain. We filled up the water again and took measuraments from the water filter with a home depot ruler (record in a notebook). Unfortunately we couldn't go inside the pool, it was all green from Phosphates. So we kept send water samples for tested. On Friday, the pool bec.ame clear after added clorox X blue chlorine 6:00 AM. The same day on lunch time, i went home. Test water pool with stripes, and checked for leak. No much luck(i used a small squirt pistol from Dollar tree, they sold three three on one pack). Pour water and red food gel color dye into the water pistol. I squirted some spot i thought it was hole, but not much success for 35 min as i have to take a shower and go to work. On the weekend, my partner and I bought a pair of googles and dived intothe pool. Because we had a hard time to stay on the bottom of the pool .i suggested to hold his weight over my back, pretty much we were pruning inside the pool. After lunch and big break, we dived in again. We had a bench against the wall, my husband took one side a part, check around the connection was tight. Then two hours later after he dismantled the side of the bench, we checked for connection it was way loose, it was little sand inside the conection. I squirted with pistol around circle conection and red dye sucked in. My husband tightened the connection and glued with clear silicon special for pools. After we got out of the pool, we filled up the water, record rge measurable.4 hours later (sponge squarepants moment)My husband noticed the shelter was completely dry one side, the puddle was dried to the bone. The other side still slightly wet. I woke up today (sunday on the morning 7:55Am). Check measuraments, and was fine. i Inspected the shelter, the concrete slab floor was ALL dried. In conclusion, it was a loose connection behind the bench,, that we only could have seen it by dismantled the whole unit. Yes, the water squirt pistol works ( i found easily than the syringe). Note: i also did a evaporation test, with a small bucket adding pool water. The whole week i recorded measuraments, it is a lot evaporation for this time of the year in South Florida. My water pool temperature:88F. Hope this helps for the RUclips community.
Awesome glad you found it and good idea with the squirt gun!
@@NealORussa Thanks. I am glad there were not holes, since we stretched the lining on the Conners. We still have a dilemma, once we reinstalled the bench that supports the connection, start leaking again. We removed the bench piece of the top, again stopped leaking. Even the connection is right now, it needs a better seal.
Cannot see anything of the assembly...
Excellent video‼️ This is my challenge now.
You can do it!
HOW DID YOU FIND THE COVER in the first place please ⁉️⁉️
This one was already dug up. I can usually locate a tank looking for odd grass areas or if you know where the outlet is from the crawlspace you can usually follow the pipe then probe for it with a steel rod or soil probe. Otherwise plumbers can flush a transponder down the toilet then locate it in the tank if you really can't find it.
