Watches we got wrong until we held them | Panerai, Piaget, Zenith
Don't judge a book by its cover, never judge a watch by its render. There is a reason we all use the phrase 'in the metal' within the watch community. As great as a photo, video, reel, or review of a watch is put together, nothing beats getting to hold it in hand yourself. Too often, we are forced to judge a watch from afar, and as a result, our first impressions can be radically different from our in-hand final verdicts.
Andrew, Marcus, and Zach each share a watch they got totally wrong. A watch they were at first not particularly fond of, only to later fall in lust once they held it 'in the metal'.
What watches would you put your hands up and cop to getting totally wrong at first? Let us...

Patrick had one job when picked up the greatest player of all time at the end of her career. That job was to convince her to lose 30-40lbs. He completely failed. If he had any integrity and respect for the game, he would have quit. His “development” of players is limited to picking up already great players and then sitting in the stands like he is responsible. Just like Nick Bolletieri. “Patrick the Poser”

Watched a service centre taking a Zenith el primero mivement apart. The watch maker was saying how the screws are tiny, the whole movement very fragile and unnecessarily complicated. He suggested Rolex movements are work horses compared to this.. omega 8500 and new iwc in house stuff, he really dissed also. Oil drying up, rotors failng... he said that there is almost no critique like this on line, but he does not trust those brands... do you guys have any opinion on that? If and he also said the co axial movements don't really last 8 years between services. It's a bit of a gimmick .. interesting. I really wanted an iwc mark xx, or an omega, and really didn't want rolex, but found the feedback has got me thinking.... maybe an Explorer 2 after all

I'm very bored of rolex, but that really made me think... do you guys have any insight on this? P.s. I wear a cwc and wanted an iwc mark xx for ages... maybe that makes me a man baby

For me, it was the Submariner Hulk. I already owned the 116710ln and chose that partly because I didn’t want a black submariner like every banker. I also thought a completely green Rolex would only be worn by a tool. But when I tried it on and saw how it shimmers and goes from bright green to a dark almost black colour, I was taken. They told me it would sell within an hour, so I went to watch a movie. Couldn't focus on the movie at all because I was only thinking about the watch. Left the movie theatre and bought the watch immediately. Now I love it and have some amazing photos with it. Turns out I was also very fortunate to get one! Lesson learned, I am the tool and don't judge something before you try it.

I love the white dial submersible. I tried out both the 44mm and 42mm. For my 7" wrist, I was leaning stronger towards the 42mm. Unfortunately, as some have stated, the bezel action on the 42mm is terrible. Very loose and sloppy time setting, sounds and feels cheap, too. The 44mm feels and sounds so much better. The 42mm bezel action is rubbish and not befitting a dive watch from a brand known for dive watches at near $10k. I could make the 44mm work. but, I really feel the 42mm visually looks better. Oh, well..

I've got the new VC 222, a VC Overseas Date in rose gold and a few other gold heavy hitters. I was initially drawn to the Polo, but trying it on back to back with my 222 I felt it was just too gaudy and trying too hard to attract attention. I feel the original slim square version would work better though. But on the main topic, I think I've only every been negatively surprised by trying on a watch, and my only regrets are the ones I bought without having held them first. As of now I'm waiting on a Czapek Promenade Goutte D’eau, ordered unseen minutes after its release, so fingers crossed that one lives up to expectations! 🤩

Ok, I’ll confess-Rolex 🫢 Been a watch nerd since the mid-nineties, started with op-shop and pawn shop vintage then gradually moved into Omega, Oris, Ulysse-Nardin, Ikepod, JLC, Grand Seiko. Rolex was for status seeking wankers! But…made an appointment with an AD in Melbourne earlier this year and fell in love. Put my name down and got a 40mm Explorer 1 last week. I can’t stop staring at it! BTW, visited the TT shop in Collins St and bought a Studio Underd0g watermelon. Changed the strap to green rubber. Fabulous! The look and wear of this watch, however, has transformed my taste. It is one of my favorites that receives a lot of wrist time. If you'd asked me who was most likely to cause and escape an international incident before the video, I would have guessed Marcus. Well swerved, mate. Jason Isaacs is an fantastic actor. Zach - if you've not already, check out "The Death of Stalin". He's incredible in that, playing Marshall Zhukov with a broad Yorkshire accent. Hilarious. Lastly, Andrew, we've all been there. The feeling like you're about to implode, someone's wringing your guts out like a dirty dish rag. Bravo on managing to keep the videos, AND the couch flawless.

Memorable watch moment is at the moonswatch launch at Chadstone in Melbourne and being Andrew’s man on the ground… crazy experience!

Those scenes were insane! We used them in the video, totally crazy and great to see Aus in the game.

Just know that before I do any interviews with watch brand reps or on-site presentation videos, I watch T&T videos the day before to match Andrew's energy levels. It's almost become a calming ritual for me. You guys rock! 💪

This is brilliant - like a pre workout haha - thanks for watching - though as Marcus says, sometimes low energy brings a different vibe - not always bad! A

I only started my watch journey last year but have seen all those videos. I am learning so much and appreciate the stories. Hope to attend watch events in the future and visit one of the Time and Tide Studios! Best Wishes
