Swedish ansjovis is a sweet, pickled sprat as opposed to the actual anchovies in oil. So your recipe which you showcase here most likely tastes rather different from the original one. Just as an FYI.

Wait - you found a random supermarket open at that time of the night other than 7-11? That`s crazy. Where did/do you live? I used to live in Hatanodai and Fujisawa, but I think most markets were closed by 10 or 11. Glad it worked out for you!

It looks like a great cake, not as dry as American cinnamon coffee cake recipes I`ve made. She was lucky to try this recipe; not many people there get a chance to try it. I used to live in and around Tokyo, and I found many interesting, delicate and unique cakes and pastries there.

  • @slocad11

Thanks for sharing this. I was interested in the omelet ingredients and the way you fold it over, leaving part of it exposed, Danish style. I also liked the simplicity and modest portions. I tend to treat breakfast as a feast whenever I have friends here, so maybe I can make it different by trying the berries and banana smoothie, some rye bread with cheese and parma ham, followed by muesli. Oh and Wienerbrod! You see? I can`t serve up a little breakfast... Guess I couldn`t be Danish after all.

Yes you are right the oringal Yokan/羊羹 was from China, and made up by mutton and its soup, after the mixture is cold they become jelly shape. However, Japan was forbidden to eat meat or there was not available meat, so they tried from plants and achieved today's Yokan. PS: I'm always wondering why Japanese seldom eat mutton today still...
