This is a sewing channel that focuses on using different types of machines and shares what I have learned along the way.
I sew for fun for my family and myself. I have learned all sorts of things over the years and am happy to share them with you.
I am grateful that I can sew better then do videos. Stick with me I am sure that will improve as well ;-)

Project - Shorts with outercurve binding
As I mentioned in my video about outer curve binding I am now sharing my whole project - using outer curve binding as an element of design.
I cover all the steps that I needed to make the complete pair of shorts. Including a mistake or two, unfiltered reality.
Since doing this video I have learned that the reference to closing binding with a serger is no longer available. I will work on posting something soon to compensate for this.
Please remember that sewing is my hobby, I am not professionally trained. I enjoy sharing what I have learned with you.

Wide needle setting with a binder and bonus track!
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.4 года назад
In this video I show you how quick it is to switch to using the wide needle setting with your single or double fold binder. After that I show you a very different look with your binder - here it is important to use a double fold. So have a look - I hope that you enjoy it. I will add info cards to link in my other videos - until then just look for them on my channel!
using a chain stitch with a double fold binder
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.4 года назад
HI today I am having a look at how to adjust and use the double fold binder with only one needle and in this case with the chain stitch on my coverstitch machine. I share with you the adjustment that is needed, how to check it and how to position your binder on the machine when you are ready to sew. Also checking it one more time - this is very important if you have adjusted your binder. You sh...
Hemming - making a hem part of your project, not just an afterthought!
Просмотров 9454 года назад
I would like to share with you a few steps that I take while preparing and assembling my projects that help me get great looking hems. I will not talk about needles, tensions, the differential or anything machine specific. Use these tips to make your hem part of your project and not (look like) an afterthought!
Winding thread spools with your sewing machine
Просмотров 12 тыс.4 года назад
In this video I share with you how (and why) I like to wind thread onto a spool rather than a bobbin. This is of course when I need a second source of thread in the same color - like when using my coverstitch for a hem. Additionally this is a good way to wind serger cone thread onto a spool if by chance you want the same color to use in your machine.
Convert a double binder to a raw edge binder
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.4 года назад
In this video I show you how to easily covert a double fold binder that has already been converted to a single fold (see my channel for that video) to a raw edge binder. A raw edge binder can help you apply Fold Over Elastic (FOE) or if using strips of fabric create a different, slightly used look. All done with a tool that you already have. Have a look at the other videos on my channel if you ...

Amazing, Thankyou ❤
Absolutely fantastic idea thank you 🙏🏼 ❤
I’m new to binding. What a a good size binder for garments and baby clothes? How did you cut the strips and what material to use?
Size is really a matter of taste. Cutting and fabric I cover in my full length video about the binder
Thank you very very much!!
I have just recently bought a cover stitch machine and was anxious to use the binding attachment and have found your videos very informative to me and I thank you for all information you are sharing.😊
Thank you so much for another brilliant video. You won't believe how much this has helped me.👏 I am doing a Hong Kong seam finish on an unlined jacket. This hack is just brilliant for this application because the back side of the Hong Kong seam is left unfinished, and I did not quite care for that look. My binder gives me a finished width of 8mm, this is a tad too wide. Is there a hack to get that finished width to 6mm, without buying another binder? My current binder is a double fold, 30mm to 8mm. Thank you again.
The only way to get a slightly narrower bind is to adjust the bumpers. You would need to pull them closer to the binder. If this will achieve your required width I can not say.
@rebeccassewingcorner49 Thank you for that suggestion. I will go try it out.
@@rebeccassewingcorner49 Thank you so much. Your suggestion worked! I moved the bumpers all the way to the right, and I had to cut my strip slightly narrower. This gave me the desired width. Thank you again for your binder videos.
Hello, I’ve never owned a cover stitch machine in all my many years of sewing. But when needing to take up hem on my granddaughter’s formal dress and it was made with Lycra, I struggled to replicate the stitch. This was when I decided to purchase one, (4 more girls to go). Your very welcome explained instructions made me decide to get the binding attachment too. Thank You so very much 😊
I am happy with your lesson.I bought cover stitch machine 10 years back and I didn't know how to thread and operate it thanks a lot ❤
Great ideas...thankyou
Your videos are always so timely. I'm resourcing this three years after you posted it, but I needed it today, and I appreciate so much how detailed and clear your instructions are. Thank you for taking the time to help us viewers! 😊
How do you go over the bias seams with this attachment? I used the Babylock Euphoria and it does NOT see well over the bias tape connecting seams very well. They get hung up under the needle!
The binder in general does not like bulk. I try to avoid it any way possible. When I do have it I use my beloved hammer and give everything a solid whack or two to reduce. Also I glue things together in advance to keep them in place while going thru the binder. So glue - whack and guide.
Would this work with the binder as my binding goes off to the right, also it's twisting - any advive, thanks
I think if your binding is going that far there are other challenges. Sometimes it us just planet the right fab, not cut precisely, foot pressure too high...it really could be a lot of things
You are brilliant with these binders! I very much enjoy the time and effort you went through to present us with such a good learning tool! Thank you
Thank you
What a fantastic lesson! Thank you! You are a great teacher.
I have the same babylock coverstitch machine, is this binder the babylock brand or another one - i'm looking at getting the single fold one but not sure what to search for
I believe that they only sell double fold original. However if you watch my paper hack video you know how to deal with that
that change my hole life, thank you so much for this video :)
Wow! This is very helpful! I just got that binder attachment and I can wait to try to use it! This is a good technique to learn! Thank you!
Couldn’t you just take the screw out of the arm that holds the bobbin in place
Possibly, it really depends on the machine. My current one would not work that way
Hi where did you get the plate for the generic binder
there was someone in the country live selling them. I believe at there is a Swedish shop specializing in binders as well as selling plates. They ship international
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. It was really helpful.
Wow! This is an EXCELLENT instructional video and after reading a few of the comments I’m obviously not alone in thinking so. You are exceptional good in teaching and am surprised that sewing machine companies haven’t hired you to produce some videos (or maybe they have). Thank you for this very detailed video. I have all the information I need to sew a very professional looking binding.
thank you, very kind. I have not been asked to quit my day job yet ;-)
Thanks for this 😊
Thanks for this! Now I don’t have to throw my coverstitch and binder out the window! I’ve got this! Thank you 🙏
Grateful to have found your very detailed videos. Thank you! You explain so well and seeing at the same time has made it easy for me to use this tool.🙂
Love, Love Love this video! I bought a coverstitch machine (that's still in the box) along with the binding attachment. Where did you find that mounting plate?
I am located in Germany - it was from a german guy - there is also a shop in Sweden that has them as well (and does international shipping). They sell binders as well
@@rebeccassewingcorner49 I actually went hunting for a mounting plate. I didn't have to leave my sewing room! I took the plate from a regular binder and attached it to the right angle binder and it works! Thank you for the tips and inspiration!
Thank you!!!!
Wonderful!
very informative video! Oh and where did you get the pattern for the shorts?
A pattern magazine from northern Europe
@@rebeccassewingcorner49 I've never heard of that magazine. Does pattern magazine from northern europe have a website
Lowland has a nice track short pattern
search ottobre
A dumb question here, but where to you get some of those empty long thread spools if you don't already have some?
I honestly don't know, I have a small stash. I use them for binding strips as well...
You are BRILLIANT!!!
Awesome video, thanks for making
Such a wonderful video! I used it a couple years ago, and today as a refresher. Ive adjusted the bumpers and now my binding is even better.
Thanks for this excellent tutorial. So much more informative than the information (or lack of) provided by said manufacturer! I had a question about the position of the rake, but I found the answer in a previous comment. Loosened the screws and flipped it upside down so I can move it forward as well as backwards. Very important to me to be able to create more stretch in the binding as I sew a lot with knits.
Cannot wait to try this! I have some of this putty stuff.
It looks like the pattern for the shorts is from some Ottobre magazine. Could please specify which one?
It is an adapted grasshopper
What is the proper name of that mounting plate?
I am not 100% sure what you are referring,? If you mean a special plate to compensate for missing hometown attach a binder I believe it is simply called binder adaptor.
Hey 👋 I work with licra how I stretch the trim
I can not give 100% reliable suggestions for lucrative. It depends on the quantity. In general the binder does the stretching for you.
So helpful! Thank you for explaining in such detail!
Good job 👌
Thank you so much for this tutorial! Very helpful.
Which sewing machine do you have ?
A domestic one.
Thank you! I can’t use my magnetic guide with my new computerized machine, and was worried about how I’d manage. This will help so much.👏🏾
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I got a coverstitch binder with no instructions and I had only used a plainstitch binder before so I had no idea how to get it set up. This has helped me so much, Thank you!
Great tutorial. Thank you. Do you have any advice on why I can't get my single-fold knit binding to work? The stitch just won't enclose the raw edge. It works beautifully with woven fabric, but the knit, even a stable knit similar to the heart fabric you show, fails me. The raw edge lands left of the left needle. Even fusing interfacing to the knit makes no difference. I've set up my machine exactly as you described, with the upper bumper 2-3 mm left of the lower bumper, and the lower bumper lined up with the left needle. The settings work great with woven fabric, with the coverstitch nicely straddling the raw edge, but not at all with the knit. Thanks for any advice.
I worked it out. Tip to share with others who may be struggling with the settings: use a long strip of fabric to test, 24-30 inches, rather than short ones. Insert, sew a couple of inches, observe the results without removing the fabric. Adjust the settings one at a time in small increments, sew a couple of inches, observe the results and keep repeating and adjusting until everything aligns just right.
Thanks for the update. I will have to check, I think that I do mention that a good length practice strip is helpful.
@@rebeccassewingcorner49 , I didn't mean to imply you didn't recommend using a fairly lengthy practice strip. I apologize for the misunderstanding. You provided so much fantastic information that this tidbit must have gone over my head, and ironically, it was the key to finally getting the alignment right. Thanks again for your superb tutorials.
Instead of using your finger, use a ball pen or a crochet hook etc.
Excellent training video. Should the babylock 15MM single fold binder be set the same way as the double fold? Arms and bumpers? My top bumper is directly over the lower one. Thank you
in my opinion yes.
How much is it and where to purchase it
I am sorry I can not give any purchasing advice. I am using a branded binder - I suggest for that you contact your local dealer. Note that I most likely live in a different country :-)
What a wonderful tutorial! You've explained everything I need to know to finally take the binder out of the box and have a go at binding. Thank you so much!
I have just found your video, after throwing my hands up in desperation.Your method works perfectly. My problems with convex curves is resolved. I have recently acquired a transparent foot, this helps to see the needle position. I switched to using the left and centre needles as per your video, and the slight adjustment of binder position sorted out my problem. Thank You
