But when needing to take up hem on my granddaughter’s formal dress and it was made with Lycra, I struggled to replicate the stitch. This was when I decided to purchase one, (4 more girls to go). Your very welcome explained instructions made me decide to get the binding attachment too. Thank You so very much 😊
This video is GOLD!!! Thank you so much for this wonderfully detailed explanation of a tool which has mystified me for eons! Mine arrived while I was finishing this video and I am so much more prepared to work now, I just cannot thank you enough. I was a tiny bit bummed that you didn't show the actual sewing of the binding, but I'll just go try to find that in your other videos ☺️
I have learned so much. When I saw the length of the video I thought whoa! but it is so worth the watch. I've had my binder a little over a week now and been practicing, with some fairly good results. However your explanation of all the parts and how they work has helped me no end. Just what is needed. I picked up so many great tips. Looking forward to even better binding. I too have a handy husband who has made me a binder fabric holder. From would you believe (car parts, it spins freely and does a great job, got some weight to it too, so can't be knocked over easily! 😊

Thank you, thank you, thank you. For this video. Your clear and kind tutorial has made me love my coverstitch machine for the first time. I bought a binder and in one day I've been able to make a clean neckline with no skipped stitches. Thank you again x
Thank you so very much for doing this detailed instructional video of the knit/woven bias binder. This was exactly what I needed to be able to achieve the desired results when using this attachment. This is by far the best video I have seen on the binder. I hope you have time to make more videos in the near future.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I got a coverstitch binder with no instructions and I had only used a plainstitch binder before so I had no idea how to get it set up. This has helped me so much, Thank you!
This is a video that I keep coming back to, it's so detailed and clear regarding what you need to do to get that perfect results. Thank you soooo much for doing this video, it's truly awsome!
Thanks for this excellent tutorial. So much more informative than the information (or lack of) provided by said manufacturer! I had a question about the position of the rake, but I found the answer in a previous comment. Loosened the screws and flipped it upside down so I can move it forward as well as backwards. Very important to me to be able to create more stretch in the binding as I sew a lot with knits.
This was the best binder explanation video I have seen. I just purchased a Juki MF 7923 and was fiddling with the binder for hours...I mean hours. My fabric kept sliding to the right. Watched your video and BAM it was on and popping!! Fabric tension was the problem. Thank you soooo much.
This is a wonderful informative video. I have had a binder sitting in a bag for several years, too scared to play with it. Thank you so much for making the video
Thankyou soo much for this very informative tutorial I really was struggling with my binder and ready to ditch it this has helped me tremendiously in understanding the ins and outs of it all much appreciated.
This is a great video. I've had a Brother 2340 Coverstitch for a few years and never used it much. I recently purchased a generic binder attachment from Amazon and have been trying to decide whether or not to keep it. It looks identical to the one in your video except the rake is upside down! I'll have to see if I can turn it over. I will also have to attach with tape since the Brother doesn't have screw holes -- only a slot. Your video gave me enough info so I can go try it and have a better chance of success. Thanks!
Awesome video, love the clear explanation, visual and how you broke the process down into segments. It would be helpful if you would share how you sew a curved neckline using a binding attachment. Specifically, how you finish the shoulder (what the seam looks like and how you tackle it). I have difficulty getting the binding edge to align evenly when sewing the seam ... do you have any 'tricks?" All the best as you grow your RUclips channel!
Love, Love Love this video! I bought a coverstitch machine (that's still in the box) along with the binding attachment. Where did you find that mounting plate?
I am located in Germany - it was from a german guy - there is also a shop in Sweden that has them as well (and does international shipping). They sell binders as well
@@rebeccassewingcorner49 I actually went hunting for a mounting plate. I didn't have to leave my sewing room! I took the plate from a regular binder and attached it to the right angle binder and it works! Thank you for the tips and inspiration!
Rebecca, this was a great video. I just purchased my Babylock Euphoria cover stitch and am having so much fun with it. You bias binder accessory info was very helpful. Question: have you ever used wooly nylon in the looper?
To answer your question, yes. I am not a fan of wooly and usually use it for decoration reasons only. I find that even with the tension bypass it get stretched too much during the sewing and does not provide nice results.
Excellent training video. Should the babylock 15MM single fold binder be set the same way as the double fold? Arms and bumpers? My top bumper is directly over the lower one. Thank you
Excellent video and so incredibly informative! Where did you get the adapter plate and generic binder? You mentioned a German supplier in your comments to another person? I have the Babylock Evolution and it doesn’t have a binder to use with knits so I need an aftermarket binder and adapter plate for my machine.
I am not sure if the person in Germany is still active, I have heard different experiences recently. I am also aware that there is a shop in Sweden that does international shipping and offers such plates.
Can I use the chain stitch instead of the cover stitch. I like to make reversible aprons and would like both sides of the binding to be the “right” side. Thanks for the video. Very informative.
Actually I made a video about using the single needle chain stitch, look it up. There are a few adjustments to make. You will still have a wrong side w6the chain though.
Great tutorial. Thank you. Do you have any advice on why I can't get my single-fold knit binding to work? The stitch just won't enclose the raw edge. It works beautifully with woven fabric, but the knit, even a stable knit similar to the heart fabric you show, fails me. The raw edge lands left of the left needle. Even fusing interfacing to the knit makes no difference. I've set up my machine exactly as you described, with the upper bumper 2-3 mm left of the lower bumper, and the lower bumper lined up with the left needle. The settings work great with woven fabric, with the coverstitch nicely straddling the raw edge, but not at all with the knit. Thanks for any advice.
I worked it out. Tip to share with others who may be struggling with the settings: use a long strip of fabric to test, 24-30 inches, rather than short ones. Insert, sew a couple of inches, observe the results without removing the fabric. Adjust the settings one at a time in small increments, sew a couple of inches, observe the results and keep repeating and adjusting until everything aligns just right.
@@rebeccassewingcorner49 , I didn't mean to imply you didn't recommend using a fairly lengthy practice strip. I apologize for the misunderstanding. You provided so much fantastic information that this tidbit must have gone over my head, and ironically, it was the key to finally getting the alignment right. Thanks again for your superb tutorials.
Is it much different sewing a curved neckline as opposed to a straight piece of fabric as you have just demonstrated and what would your machine settings be eg needle tensions and differential? Also would the fabric type eg using thin Lycra change any settings? Last time I tried to bind Lycra the results were not very good as the fabric slid off to the side. Thanks for any advice as I am still new to all this.
There is not really much to do for a curved neckline. Keep "guide" in mind. You will slowly "straighten" the neckline while you feed it into the binder. But not stretch it. As for Lycra (as in bathing suit stuff) it is not my friend. I will be back to sewing suits soon and will try it (again). I have a few new ideas. If it works I will share! Thanks for watching!
How do you go over the bias seams with this attachment? I used the Babylock Euphoria and it does NOT see well over the bias tape connecting seams very well. They get hung up under the needle!
The binder in general does not like bulk. I try to avoid it any way possible. When I do have it I use my beloved hammer and give everything a solid whack or two to reduce. Also I glue things together in advance to keep them in place while going thru the binder. So glue - whack and guide.
Where did you buy the blue plastic thing with two holes. I just bought a new Euphoria and after I took my fabric guide out it left a deep mark on my brand new machine. I’d like to get this blue plastic tool to help lift the fabric guide up a bit so it doesn’t cause more problem to my machine. Thank you!
It came with the (in my humble opinion) useless so called hem guide that the manufacturer sells. You should be able to cut up a simple plastic placemat and pop two holes in it and get same results. Possibly the right size to protect all spots around your guide.
I have an Euphoria maskine. I see that you use the left and center nedles. I have ben told, that on Euphoria it is best to use the center and left nedles. Could you tell something about the choosing of nedles placement.
Needles should be in the position that makes the most use of the feed dogs. I find that the euphoria is very forgiving...or does not care that much. I suggest trying things out over listening to rules. Often information from dealers can also be second hand information without really knowing or having tried... I now have a euphoria and still use left and center.
there was someone in the country live selling them. I believe at there is a Swedish shop specializing in binders as well as selling plates. They ship international
How did you put the little metal plate on the generic binder? I need one for mine. I have multiple that are just a tiny bit to long for my Janine coverpro 1000cpx
usually there are screws to attach. In the plate that I have (from the German supplier) for generics the holes in the plate have threads in them. Or do I not understand your question?
when you buy the double fold knit binder, the rake is the opposite of what you show it in the video. is it better to do it like that than if it's the other way around?
I am not sure what you mean by opposite. I know that for packaging and transport it is folded back on to the binder. This just keeps it out of the way. I would recommend doing what works best for you. I find that for my binders having it set the way you see in the videos works best.
My binder also came with the rake installed so the final piece attaches at the bottom of the binder as opposed to the top of the binder. The rake will fold backwards not forwards, for creating tension.
you should be able to open the screws on the back and flip it to the other side. I highly recommend being about to pull the rake forward for tension as will will have more room to adjust.
Hi Rebecca, I have a triumph and I have been trying to use the bias binder but it keeps slipping off to the left. I was just trying by itself, without attaching the neckline or anything. Do you know why that is? I have tried all different foot, different position attachment, I made sure that it’s straight when I put it under the foot. I don’t know what else to try. Pls help. Thanks
I have been thinking about how to answer for a bit. I see that there are machines that tend to pull in a direction. My theory is that this is because the feed dogs are not working just right together. I have noticed that when I "crank" my differential way down and am not just making straps it ill pull hard (on the left) on my project fabric...it moves much faster then the binding. So I don't have an answer for you - try adjusting the differential up or down and see if it helps. Worst case you can use the "lego hack" and put a barrier to prevent the shift to the right...
I am not 100% sure what you are referring,? If you mean a special plate to compensate for missing hometown attach a binder I believe it is simply called binder adaptor.
Can you get these for standard machines. And can you go round curves with this. I found it difficult to hear everything you were saying as it was muffled and echoing my end.
By a standard machine, do you mean a regular sewing machine? A binder is the same no matter the machine, you just need a surface to attach it. Try watching the video again, the audio issue was most likely a connection issue.
I am sorry I can not give any purchasing advice. I am using a branded binder - I suggest for that you contact your local dealer. Note that I most likely live in a different country :-)
I actually do not own a single fold binder as I prefer to use the paper hack on my double fold. Maybe my paper hack video can help you. It could also be the fabric, some just do not work well.
no they do not have an online store. it is the babylock brand binder - it has a pretty fixed price with dealers. Additionally I am located in Germany - it might not be much of a help anyway.
Me too! I try swimsuit fabric every year when making the new bathing suits. I have yet to find the right solution that gives me the results I want. It is about time to make new ones so I will pay attention if it does work out.
@@rebeccassewingcorner49 I think the tip from Luo Fu is not the fabric itself, but that they're using a starch to make the lycra a little more grippy so the lycra doesn't get wonky when it goes through. By a standard machine, do you mean a regular sewing machine? A binder is the same no matter the machine, you just need a surface to attach it. Try watching the video again, the audio issue was most likely a connection issue.
How much is it and where to purchase it
I am sorry I can not give any purchasing advice. I am using a branded binder - I suggest for that you contact your local dealer. Note that I most likely live in a different country :-)
Can you try a video on the single fold one. I can not get to work with my knit.
I actually do not own a single fold binder as I prefer to use the paper hack on my double fold. Maybe my paper hack video can help you. It could also be the fabric, some just do not work well.
where did you buy your binder?
At my local store.
@@rebeccassewingcorner49 do they have an online store I have been trying to find it for some time now at a reasonable price.
no they do not have an online store. it is the babylock brand binder - it has a pretty fixed price with dealers. Additionally I am located in Germany - it might not be much of a help anyway.

I would like to see it on a curve for swiming suit
Me too! I try swimsuit fabric every year when making the new bathing suits. I have yet to find the right solution that gives me the results I want. It is about time to make new ones so I will pay attention if it does work out.

I of course "approve" this comment. It however has nothing to do with the question. It addresses woven fabrics and that only very high level.
@@rebeccassewingcorner49 I think the tip from Luo Fu is not the fabric itself, but that they're using a starch to make the lycra a little more grippy so the lycra doesn't get wonky when it goes through. That's what I hear can make lycra binding projects a bit more successful! I'm also looking for a method to make lycra projects work. I'm going to try it out.
possibly - I have tried starch with not enough success. Thus I have not continued with it. Starch might not be starch...
