R1Liz - A big old mess tbh (Arctic to Alpine S1000RR Adventure Part 20)
Not my best creation which is a huge shame, here's a summary of my messy day going from Bosnia to Slovenia via the Croatian coast.
I’d already decided that I was heading home, but I was in a rush to get out of Bosnia and back to where my phone worked again - having no way of contacting anyone or checking anything was a huge problem for me so my priority was to get to the border without anything going wrong.
Bosnia was a beautiful country to ride through with kind people and a fascinating mixture of new and old that I love to see. Unbeknownst to me, shortly before my arrival Bosnia had experienced catastrophic flooding and landslides which had destroyed homes and lives in some parts of the...

Coming into Bosnia was a last minute decision. I was planning to turn around in Slovenia and head north via Italy, but I have been eyeing up all the wiggly roads on the maps app in Bosnia and at 7am this morning I decided to go for it, I found a very cheap place in the mountains and off I went, south into the heart of the country. I didn’t realise my phone company had cut me off until it was to...

A long day to get to Slovenia through Hungary. I was looking forward to Hungary but on Air BnB I couldn’t find a cheap place to stay that was suitable and on a route I needed and so unfortunately I mostly just shot through it, maybe one to do properly in the future. Slovenia emerged from the flat horizon, a landscape of huge green hills and finally it was time for the RR to have some fun. Unfor...

Slovakia! This was originally going to be a quick cut through because I was hoping to go to Romania - unfortunately this has to be saved for another adventure, but it means I can do the length of Slovakia and enjoy it fully. Mountains were the perfect welcome into this beautiful country, but I’m disappointed I didn’t see any bears. The dumplings soothed my sore throat, cleared my head and had a...

After a rubbish few days I’m so relieved to be in Krakow and finally getting my tyres sorted. I’m still sick but I can feel it fizzling out, it’s just a shame I had lower energy levels for a day out in Krakow. I normally avoid cities but I’ve heard positive things about this one and knowing my bike is safe in the hands of a nice posh BMW shop I was happy to go exploring. Now Pinky has new tyres...

Update for everyone enjoying the day-to-day videos from this trip (no riding footage here - sorry!) I got sick! Aghhh. The stars have sort of aligned and although I’m unwell I’m also hanging around waiting for a tyre delivery, so it’s no huge loss. It’d be nice to explore the area and maybe see further east but I’ve decided to stay put and spend a day in bed in the hope that forced rest will ma...

Poland! I’ve been excited about Poland, it’s huge, it’s different, I’ve heard excellent things about their hospitality and kind people. Similarly to France and Germany there will be a gradual shift in architecture and scenery as I go south and I’m looking forward to noticing all the subtle changes on my way down. My priority unfortunately is to get tyres, maybe I should have paid €600 in Finlan...

Heading south into Lithuania, my mood is being carried by the autumn colours that are obviously so loved out here. I am getting a bit fed up with the local drivers - since I came east I’m getting overtaken constantly! I’m a fast bike and an ok rider, but I respect the speed limits (at least most of the time) - to get aggressively tail gated by a gigantic lorry is wild to me, should I speed up a...
R1Liz - Finland to Estonia to Latvia (Arctic to Alpine S1000RR Adventure Part 12)

Heading south as quick as I can. Today I took the first ferry out of Finland and into Estonia, and then beelined south to Latvia. I feel sad to have left Finland so quickly, but I don’t have enough time to wait out the bad weather, and my tyres aren’t in a good state to be riding fun roads in the wet, so I’m off to find dry-er roads and cheaper garages for tyres. Actually leaving a little soone...

Просмотров 8 тыс.Месяц назад
Normally when people tell me the season is over I respectfully ignore them, but it turns out the people of Finland have a point. I had a few hours this morning to try and enjoy the roads but my satnav got a bit carried away and started directing me to unpaved routes. By the time I reached the southern area where I’d been promised good fun roads, the storm had arrived and I’d accepted the fate o...

Finally I am in Finland! My first time here, a new country on the list. My goal for Finland is to head south quickly so I can get on a boat to Estonia and continue descending to warmer places. I’ve always wanted to visit Finland but with a horrible storm forecast I’m not totally confident that I’m going to have the best time. I’m excited to soak up the autumn atmosphere in my first east of Euro...

Sweden! I have enjoyed a forced day off here, unfortunately I didn't ride far enough to escape the snow on my way out of Norway, and so I woke up to a winter wonderland which trapped me in my Air BnB for an extra day. This was more than OK with me, the RR was in a cosy garage, the town had a big shop and my accommodation had a kitchen, I was able to spend the day relaxing and watching movies, e...

The turn around point in my adventure with my S1000RR. The goal was always to get as far north as I could and originally I’d hoped to reach Nordkapp and get into Finland from the top - but that was before my trip got pushed back a month. I decided to keep going and turn round when I absolutely had to. (If my only goal was to get to Nordkapp, there’s a coastal route up Norway that would have avo...

A more laid back day, my lack of a plan is catching up with me and so all I wanted to do today was get to my route crossroad in Trondheim so I can decide what to do next. The most fun day so far! Finally we’re seeing some snow, I’m sure the novelty will wear off soon but for now I’m thrilled to be back in my favourite scenery of peaceful snow covered mountains. Mercifully the roads are mostly dry so I don’t need to worry too much about ice under my tyres. The temperature is starting to dip below 10 degrees and it’s still warm enough for me to be wearing mid-seas...

I think wearing black was not good for me because my cold weather pants are black and so is my leather jacket. Black motorcycles and black cloths to "LOOK COOL SEEMS" silly to me. I went with WHITE helmet with new my red GSX-S 1000GT. See me please, please see me you idiot drivers. Confused about the grey plastic peice in the bag. Getting used to the rachet but have not figured out how to secure the hemet to the bike.
2 years ago i survived a deadly motorcycle accident would be a good alternative (right leg) i was looking to yamaha tricity 300 and the piaggio mp3 530, but this looks way beter, the 900 is drivable with a car licence in belgium so i think getting one. nice video
I don’t que on boarders
What is this sex thing and why are people are writing about it in guestbooks?
Just a quick tip from an old fart whos also vertically challenged :-) I know what its like to be tippy toe & a heavy bike being on my 2nd 1050 strom. Instead of sitting on it & tippy toeing away, try leaving the stand down & pulling/ pushing the bike backwards is easier & much less chance of loosing grip on gravel / moss & then the bike falling & taking you down with it. Its easier still if you grab the left side grab handle with the right palm, lock your elbow into your rib cage & just push / walk to your right so the bike goes backwards. Great dog story but you have convinced me to stay with a Staffy for my next dog. Good luck with 800 RE, im thinking ofchopping my 1050 for an 800RE in the same colour as yours.

Always best to have some emergency cash in what ever currency. I've been caught out before so always carry £100 or its equivalent!
I usually have some euros and kroners on me, but was completely unprepared for all the new currencies heading south 🤦♀️ underprepared and uneducated not a good combination 🙃
@R1_Liz you're very well organised 99.9% of the time, well done! Liz.
But really not sure would have slept in that bed...😬 Hey ho!
'i can't be the only twat doing this' 😂 My heart skipped beats on this crappy single track up hills 😮
I’m haunted by the sounds the bike was making chugging up the hills after a long day 😂😥
From watching your videos, More often than not, do you find your bike navigation unreliable from freezing and not telling you where to go or sending you the wrong way? Is the bike navigation linked to your phone?
Usually it’s fairly reliable, I just highlights the times when it isn’t, and for something like this trip it’s far from the appropriate tool for the job. It’ll do everything from take me the wrong way, make up weird imaginary routes or just freeze and stop working completely. It works off my phones GPS and downloaded maps, it’s free and doesn’t use too much battery or memory, so I haven’t bothered looking at other options 😅
@R1_Liz It sounds like the Suzuki version I have on my bike. Basically it's unreliable and crap, plus it constantly disconnects. I whole heartedly admire you for taking on this adventure, covering so many countries and miles and doing it all on your own. I really hope you're enjoying yourself while doing it all. I have had no hesitation in doing trips and things on my own, but I'm not sure I'd tackle a trip of the magnitude you're doing. I'm definitely in admiration of you. Stay safe on your travels!!!
Will you come in Romania also?
I wanted to but I ran out of time - one day I’ll be back!

Hope you're feeling better today..... it's pronounced Crackoov btw
Oops, too late now, crack cow it is 🥲 sorry!
Bosnia is one place I havn't ever been to. Did you have to pay exra for insurance? I know it's not covered by Benetts as standard also my Phone roaming isn't working there either. That climb up to your planned stop was epic I would love that. You are not a tw** you are an adventurer great video real first hand experiance.
It didn’t cost me extra with BikeSure - just a phone call thank goodness, I really did just waltz in with absolutely no idea so a lot of things surprised me 😅 but I’d go back, with a bit of preparation and probably with other people
@@R1_Liz I'll go with you 😀
Hi Liz, if you have iPhone, I know they have ‘translate’ maybe save a few embarrassing moments. Love the vids 👏🏻
Well done Liz you succeeded. Things got a little sketchy with no phone signal and the cash situation but you made the best of it. Enjoying all these videos and appreciate the work that goes into editing etc let alone the filming and commentary. Cheers all the best👌👍👍
" ...but I'm turing it around and I'm goin-ome!" ; Heart wrenching! 💔
Sadly the bike was due its service and I couldn’t do any more miles without having to plan in a maintenance stop which would have added way too much time, so, home we went 🥲
Great adventure. Those roads looked very sketchy but awesome at the same time 😊
Great vid ... bit of a rollercoaster ride from sunshine to jeopardy! All's well that ends with a Goulash 😁
Looks like the guest book and bed have been busy and have some stories to tell At least half the customers have left happy 😆
hi Liz 💐, great video, great riding a long the wee narrow roads, 🏍️💐, well done,🏍️🏍️💐😎🏴👍
LOL. The guest book.
Some stunning scenery, great video, definitely somewhere I'd like to go.
I was afraid that Pinky had led you astray up that tiny road, so glad you made it there safe!
She almost had me! To be honest the place I ended up first looked very cosy and social - I’ll keep it in mind for next time
Ha! Looks from guest book to the bed. Brilliant!
I don’t envy you today
Seeing drifts of leaves on the road increased my pucker factor, that's like riding on snot. But yeah, drivers who can't keep to their lane are such a-holes. I make a point of hugging the side of the road that's the furthest from the centerline whenever there are blind curves. Seems carrying cash is still wise especially off the beaten path, too.
Well done? That last bit of road in the rain ☔️ was sketchy! And goulash! Very nice hearty meal! I am enjoying your travels so much! Sitting here on a Sunday in the Uk 🇬🇧 pissing down with rain ☔️ looking forward to your next video, ride safe xx
I enjoyed watching you navigate the Bosnian mountains, but was all the while wondering if Heather and Ami were two separate people......If so, lucky Valev!
Love the attitude - even when asked by officials. Where are you going? 🤷♀️ I need to do something like that soon. Looks like a nice place to just have a chilled out ride - but getting anywhere quickly looks a bit of a pain. I did enjoy "why's it so steep" as you climb a mountain 😂 Not a bad place to look out on the world at all - I'm very jealous.
Hi Liz, yes I did enjoy your video 👍,That cute dog 🐕 i think would of been very friendly as he was wagging his tail which is normally a good sign, I said to myself wow what stunning autumn colours just as you said it aswell, lovely sweeping bends but shame the road surface wasn't better, glad you had a nice meal you needed it,They didn't get you to do the washing up 😂. Take care, Best wishes Roy 👍 😊.
The roads do look bouncy. For a while, I thought your forks had no oil in them 😀
That’s a likely scenario tbh, might have to get it checked 🥲
@@R1_Liz I've had this a few times. The degredation happens slowly so it's not noticed until the front end gets horrible. Also, most bikes come with springs suitable for an 80kg rider. Once I'm on with luggage, I can't get the sag right. I finally have all the tools to upgrade springs, valves and seals in shocks.
Wellcome to Bosniaaa.....

Liz, I'm watching your insta from past few days, you're updating there many things but when we gonna get videos of that 😊
In a few weeks 😅 gotta get these trip videos out the way first and it’s giving my time to edit

Just discovered you here! nice videos! Any plans to come to Romania? How did you managed to tie such a big bag to such a small tail on that bike! You are very brave to travel so much! Congrats! From one biker to another, I wish you dry asphalt, twisty roads and amazing views! And best of prices at the pump so you can have an everlasting full tank of gas! Ride Safe!
If I had more time I was hoping to get to Romania on this trip, but I had to turn back before I got that far. Hopefully I’ll be able to go another time because I’d love to see it! Thank you for your kind comment 😁 have a safe winter
@R1_Liz Worth making a one week trip around here but rather in the summer. We have several curvy roads at high altitude that are closed during the cold season, but during summer they are absolutely epic. Some of them I still want to ride myself. And you might even stumble upon friendlier riders around here. Prices for food, petrol and staying overnight are better too. I even heard about an initiative of a group of riders that are receiving motorbike travelers for free for some nights, a warm meal and a shower. I am yet to try their hospitality myself. I can't wait for spring! New year, new riding season, new and old roads to travel!
Need a place to stay in Ljubljana, safe for the bike, I have a bunch of
Having been off-roading in deepest Suffolk ... don't trust BMW with finding a wiggly route! Great vid 👍🏻

We all need more haunted houses.

You have been in Lendava and forgot to check the Lindauring for corners 😅
*insert spontaneous track day here*
I just accidentally got here, and I am wondering why do you do touring on a sport bike? Is it comfortable to you? And yeah, Hungary is pretty boring if you are looking for curvy roads. Go to Austria. There is a lot more there :)
I tour on sportsbikes because I like sportsbikes and I like touring. Actually the S1000RR is surprisingly comfortable - and my sport model has cruise control and heated grips so it’s basically a touring bike. I heard good things about Hungary so I was happy to be there but I think I picked the boring corner to visit 😅
dobrodošla :)
Hi Liz. Greetings from Slovakia. 😊 If you visit us again in the future, don't worry about the drivers. Since You ride a bike, they expect you overtaking them at speeds at least twice as fast as they are driving at. They are confused by your adherence to the speed limit 😁 Happy riding 💪🙏
Hi! I feel silly now, but it’s better than getting a horrible fine for speeding, now I know for future to just go in front of everyone and I’ll fit in 😁
@ don't feel silly. If You want to be safe, just keep riding at the same speed as cars in front of You and "hide" behind them for "fine avoidance safety" and you'll be just fine 😁 (no pun intended)
Very funny videos, Liz! I wish you never fall off your bike!
Are you in croatia now?Im thinking going there tomorw.Nice bike👍
This was filmed last month so no, but Croatia was warm and sunny and dry with some really cool roads - not sure what it’s like in December though
You're going to have to get @Calimoto or a phone mount. Pinkies system is dire 😢
I still have a bit of hope for it and it’s so much neater than messing with a phone mount etc when I’d prefer to keep my phone securely in my pocket. A better way of dealing with it is to look online for good roads first and ask it to take me to them and go from there, and also hope that the GPS isn’t out of sync like it was in Finland 😅
You should probably switch to google maps for more accurate navigation 😀
I'm using TOMTOM DISCOVERY GOT me up to Sheffield loved it
You sound a lot better now? I was expecting a white 🐈 to appear in your room 😂from your bag 😂xx
