Great questions! A Large should work just fine. They are usually Velcro, and if even if you got an XL I think you'd be fine. It should be right at the top of your belly button as far as how high it comes up, although your preference may vary. If you watch a lot of pro fights, it'll be WAY up there (cause it protects your body too lol), but I don't like it quite that high

As your footwork improves and you shift your body weight in the proper direction defensively and offensively you’ll be able to better measure your opponent’s punches. You’ll still get hit but because you are positioned Properly it allows you take some of the power off the shoot by parrying, blocking or positioning yourself where the shot loses some power, even better you can check hook or over hand counter from a better position as they throw theirs and they try to invade your space. After a while the headaches, buzzing brain feeling stops because you are learning how to fight properly and calculate damage (this applies if you are actually under some kinda guidance on your weak points. The important thing is someone had to see you even if it is once a month and say “hey this needs to change or improve” then you spend months working on that small improvement). Eventually you Improve so much even people who over looked you start to throw in little pieces of knowledge, you filter what works for you and make minor adjustments within your style. Watch videos on the fundamentals, most importantly your footwork and stance. Being afraid to spar is also normal, I got a black eye last week for the first time and I am 33 and been boxing for 3-4 years. I am almost always the oldest guy wrapping up and throwing on my war armor. That alone is something to be proud of. I am realistic about who and when I spar. Some people are just above my level and that ok. Maybe one day I can last a few rounds with them, but in my current reality I know my limitation and that important in keeping yourself sparring and getting better to reach the next level. I also understand that some people want to do this for a living and I am just doing it to learn a life skill and be within the top % of males who actually know how to fight and are not afraid of it. Find a “reason” for the ass whoppings and learning experiences, and the fear minimizes as you condition your body. Fear never goes away because it’s needed to improve, but it helps you dream about the errors and make adjustments, fear keeps you shadow boxing, running, doing strength and conditioning work. Enjoy it and keep working.

I had mma sparring in the first two training sessions ever and it went smooth, nothing crazy. I see this video and read the comments, I feel sick of what I am hearing because an experienced fighter should be much safer, he should know how to adapt his control and power to the less experienced partner. They know for sure what they're doing. Sparring is only for learning, it always should be light, hard sparring is only for the professionals, to feel the intensity. There shouldn't be room for ego, and the coach should be the first to protect you. I'm so sorry for you guys, be safe out there!

@@mercilessbxng3140 Looking around online, I don't see the one I have from Fighting Sports, but I would recommend the "Ringside Groin Abdominal Boxing Protector." Cheap, allows for good movement, and available. If you see any protectors that look like that one around that price, I say go for it

thanks man I do muay thai and this was very helpful. I got tee'd off on by experienced fighters and felt really bad after the session. I did okay against fighters with my experience and size but all that I remember is getting annhilated by the pros lol. Thanks for the advice Ill keep my head up

Good to hear! It happens to all of us. If you keep your head up, you'll be on their level before you know it

Im a US 13 in my nike hyperzoom running but 12.5 in my nike basketball. Do you think I should get 13?

Good question. I'd go with the 12.5 because you can adjust the strap, and they do form to the shape of your foot. For me, a tighter boxing shoe has always been better than a loose one.

I had a bad experience in the past where after a few round my toe starts to heart when it's just right. Got myself the 13 and it feels great. Thanks!

@@AirsoftRealSteelBoxing Glad to hear, bro! Shoes are more important than gloves even, so I'm glad you got a great fit!
