Did you review the Contender Headgear you referred to at 0:17? I'm curious about it.

I'm used to the cheek protector but I'm getting this ringside one.

It is a great headgear. Doesn't slide around and vision is sick. I hope you dig it

Thanks for the review, there aren't many on this particular product so its good to get a better overview. Have you ever compared this to the equivalent contender fight sports open face headgear without cheeks? im wondering if theres any difference in quality - because contender is apparently owned by Ringside and marketed as a more affordable line of equipement.

Adrian Lau Funny that you should mention that! At about 0:04 seconds into this video, you can see my old "Contender Fight Sports" competition headgear (with cheeks, though). I honestly thought it was a great, comfortable headgear and I had lots and lots of great sparring in it. One complaint I have about it, though: the silver buckle for the chin strap began to get extremely rusty and I couldn't use the headgear anymore. I'll do a video on it soon!

do cheek protectors also protect the eyes more so? like when you are punched in the face, do the cheek protectors prevent the gloves from digging in your eyes?

Roland Canlas To be quite honest, I would think at most cheek protectors would *barely* help with eye protection. Its hard to say. Maybe slightly. I have been thumbed in the eye with cheek protectors before but they may help. The full face headgear with the bar running across it would probably be your best bet in terms of eye protection (although I've never owned one). Hope this was helpful!

Jabgear Online Fight Shop oh ok thanks. I actually bought the headgear you reviewed. the guy who owns the boxing gym I go to sells this but the ones he has didn't fit me so I bought it online. I then realized I probably need head gear with better eye protection since I got catarract surgery on my left eye. I'll probably just save up and buy some winning headgear since everyone says it's the best.

Roland Canlas Oh man, eye surgery? I'd take as many precautions as possible. That Winning headgear (I think its called the FG-5000 or something) is basically untouchable as far as protection and mobility goes. It costs a pretty penny but your eye will thank you later!
