Moonlight Sonata, but make it ragtime
roguelikes are, in the general case, about taking the tools you're given and converting them into advantages. while the ability to play a high card build is very powerful, you're missing good chances with this approach. linear scaling gets you most of the way through the game; a little Xmult is all you need to cap it off outside the unfair stakes. besides, even if this advice is still optimal for white stake (big balance patch makes me think probably not as much) I tried following it and lost runs because I wasn't paying attention lol. I think it would be better to present this as a particular playstyle that you're very good at rather than a playstyle that straightforwardly converts to W's
The wall I am up against right now is trying to win with zodiac. holy cow do I hate that deck I have gone through ante 1 AND 2 without seeing a single joker at times, and when I normally do see jokers is it maybe 3 in the first few antes and they are usually terrible.
That random Yard Jingle midway through was really cool
I know you addressed this already in post, Autumn, but watching this video 5 months after the release of 1.0.1f feels like looking into a cursed time capsule. I forgot how bad pre-patch Orange and Gold Stake used to suck. Minus-1 hand size and packs costing a fortune made most elements of the game so unplayable that you had no choice but to build the EXACT kind of Joker setup you instructed and avoid consumables like the plague until you completed it. Changing the rules of the higher Stakes, as well as buffing non-Joker mechanics like Blue Seals and The Magician, was a really savvy move by LocalThunk that opened up so many more strats.
the section from 11:41 to 12:06 is great! I'm actually here seeking instructional content because this was the playstyle that, with a little luck, took me all the way up to bashing my head against orange stake with the checkered deck for a while before realizing no this isn't gonna work I need to step back and rethink my life
I actually had a good run that used space joker one time! I... wasn't very good, and was getting carried by vagabond lol
This was good. What's hilarious to me is that I do the opposite of everything you say and I'm still getting a decently high win rate. I think that's what makes this game so fun. Also on the endless mode, I think it's useful to use that to try to buy up everything possible in order to speed run early unlocks. It's how I got many of the vouchers. I knew that I was going to lose rather quickly but it was a chance to be able to grab those vouchers. Anyways, great video EX
Making flushes is the easiest and most consistent hand build to make in most decks, finding the jokers and tarot cards to provide optimal synergy, not so much
As someone that got completionist++ I strongly disagree with some of these opinions. But that goes to show that you can succeed with a large variety of strategies. To be consistently successful, you just need to understand the rules and adapt to your options.
Thanks! Endless mode has my interest, but getting there consistently would be nice
This is the perfect ADHD content for me. He reads so fast put speed to x2 and still was able to follow lol
Cryptid is just the funniest mod. It’s like somebody woke up one day and said “I want to make Endless Mode the normal way to play”, did some coke, and got to it
I think I'm slow
thanks for the insights. It's getting difficult to keep up w/ my sons mad card skillz
LOL "they took me off of Adderall cuz its not strong enough" 💀 GIRL WHAT
she's built different
Good only for a machine. Extremely detrimental to any new player and boring. And only really able to used if you already are good a Balatro, the "strategies" you point out are good at best and will decrease winrate of anyone who has a slightly different play style of you. Personally I find it bland and unhelpful. But at least the chip+multi combo is a decent tip.
While I understand the sentiment of not taking eternal econ, drspectred would like a word with you
Note on Boss Blinds: The Flint is just a worse wall, because it's basically a 4x instead of a 2x goal.
I just started. I thought Space Joker was the best Joker. If pulled early I can milk 1 style hand and get it leveled up pretty quickly. That said Ive never completed a run so i dunno wdf im talking about.
Well i think the same thing with space Joker but the burn joker is just better
This video largely goes along with my conscious, with one notable exception. The joker “template” where you use 1 chip/mult additive scaling card and 3 mult times jokers is not the only template available, and often time is worse. Another template I like to use is the one I call exponential, which primarily uses retriggers and jokers that trigger upon a card scoring. The exponential template is mostly used in high score runs for the sake of its name, it deals in exponentials instead of linear multiplicative scaling. A general guideline for exponential could be 1 chips card, 1 retrigger, 1 additive mult upon card scoring, and 1 multiplicative upon card scoring. a few examples are: - scholar - baron - mime - hanging chad - photograph (goes awesome with hanging chad, both commons!) - triboulet - dusk - sock and buskin - idol - 10-4 - hack - ancient joker The more retriggers, the better. I personally use both joker templates, but I go with whatever shows up first. Obviously, both can be used together as well. 2 of my gold stake runs involve using hanging chad and photograph with that first template (i’ll call it “base” for now.)
I cannot keep up with how fast your talking but thank you😂
The thing about spending money on rerolls and fishing for multiplier jokers makes me wonder if they make up the majority of the jokers I haven't unlocked yet. I rarely see any in the shop and the ones I see are often not great to work with, like the x4 four-in-a-row one. EDIT: Yeah, ouch. Of the 23 I'm still missing, about half are multipliers.
I got stencil and copy a joker destroy other jokers in my first shop, x5 x5 instantly
I felt seen at 10:53, that's exactly what was going through my head as soon as he showed up
Charles Schultz was from Minnesota, so we have Peanuts characters everywhere! Not that exciting is the name of the game at Valleyfair. We're bottom tier of the Cedar Fair chain unfortunately, so not many rides get built.
looking forward to seeing the rest of the cast soon!
bro speaks at 2x speed (using bro as gender neutral)
My issue is always getting enough xmult cards before the ante scaling hits. I can be perfectly set up and no xmults.
I just won immediately after watching this video. First win on the first try. No joke, great video, big thumbs up.
Damn, thanks to these tips i managed to increase my modest 0% win rate to an impressive... 0% win rate. Yeah, gotta admit, not very good at this 😅😅😅
Can you explain how to use your spreadsheet?
Great guide! A must watch for any new player
Just tried this and finally beat the game with the black deck, might be my favorite now
has this changed? I got a 99.1 a few months ago
Disliked for Space Joker hate speech
One small note about rentals is that you don't get charged the $3 till round end so you can take one, use it in all hands apart from the last and sell it making it effectively free. Definitely a bit of an edge case but it's got me back into a few runs I would have otherwise lost.
Thank you for the video! Solidified a lot of what I thought were good strats and taught me plenty of new ones! God bless.
hey, thanks for this! you're the only person I've found that did a straightforward explanation of what you need to play the deck efficiently! also I normally skip playthrough sections because they're usually just bloat, but your playthrough was very quick, punchy, and did a very good job of explaining what you need to win. I really wish every other content creator making similar content would follow suit!
Loved everything about this video. Concise yet thorough. The game is very lenient at base stakes but rapidly starts requiring a more disciplined approach.
Hey now! I'm totally hearing Slay the Spire background noise here in this video! You thought you were sneaky didn't you. A man of culture I see. Props! 👍
Oh...... Sadly, I just realized it says that when you move the slider into a new chapter in your video. It displays the music used. So now my surprise isn't as cool as I had thought. Still bravo for using though
love the whirling in rags theme!
Thanks for the video. It helped me unlock the first 10 decks and I won all 10 white chip difficulty. Would you say the same basic tips apply to the higher stakes. The less money from no small blind money is noticeable starting out. I just started last week when it was released on mobile.
The higher stakes are more RNG dependent imo. I've beat gold on a few decks and am going through the decks one by one to gold them all, and once you hit purple stake or so sometimes you just don't hit the hands/jokers you need in the early antes to keep the rounds/money coming to stick to this strategy (don't get me wrong, it's still a solid strategy and I tend to use it) Maybe the really good players can win the high stakes most of the time but sometimes you gotta tailor your run to the rolls you're getting
I honestly don’t think most of this is good advice. Yes, the +chip, +mult, xmult engine is key, but ignoring boosters, tarots, and planets - even just recommending not to worry about them - is kind of a dog shit strategy. I’m very confused how you can get “100% win rate” going “joker only”. I went from 90% win rate easily to, idk, 10% win rate? By following this advice, so…
The problem is you’re talking too fast while saying too much
I was able to follow it while doing the dishes but I’ve been playing a while and trying to clear purple stake.
0.75x speed should help, idk
After playing for 18 hours and reaching ante 7 tops, I followed your initial advice and immediately won my first game ever. Thanks !
I guess an unpopular opinion but an early space joker is super solid. Don’t even really have to focus planets since your main hands will level automatically
Yeah, Space Joker in a vacuum is booty, but if you're likely to play only one type of hand, he can bank the equivalent value of many, MANY Planet cards over the course of a run. I won a Gold Stake run on Checkered Deck recently thanks to the Spaceman and Burglar... and without a single X Mult.
Won my first run watching your video after countless times of trying to win on my own. Thanks for the help
hey girlie! do u have anywhere this is written out?
Omg you dint win whit every joker? So that one is for sure dificult
Are you cosplaying?
Great video! I really enjoyed your thorough explanations
