This is from Ashley’s Crochet, a local yarn maker here in the Philippine but unfortunately they usually have limited number of cakes per colorway during their monthly postings/releases, and this one was from a few years back already. There are probably similar yarns, you may search for Kokonki yarns, Hobbi, or YarnArt. I hope you find a yarn that you like.

Oh yes, labels would be really helpful. I have some yarns in plastic boxes without labels before and I still have to open each one to find out what kind of yarns are in there and I had to open several before finding the right box, lol. We have a dog, too, but he’s not allowed in the yarn room but I let him play with scrap yarns sometimes. Thanks for dropping by fellow Yarnie! ❤️🥰

I didn’t steam or block this one. Some people do it but I can say that it’s not really necessary. But steaming or if you really mean blocking it and steaming, the result will be good because the stitches will open and the design will be more noticeable.

This one I used is a fingering weight yarn and I used up around 270 grams, it doesn’t say on the label how many meters but according to a chart I found on Google, for fingering weight it can be 347 - 457 meters per 100 grams. Based on that, a 270-gram cake can be approximately 937 - 1,234 meters. I’m guessing it could be on the higher end, 1000 meters or longer because this yarn is very light.

Yes, since it’s sport weight so it’s not too bulky but I also suggest to make the stitches not too tight so the end result will be flowy and not stiff. I crochet tightly so to get a loose tension, I just use a bigger hook size than the recommended one for a certain yarn weight.

This one I used is a fingering weight yarn and I used up around 270 grams and according to a chart I found on Google, for fingering weight it can be 380 - 500 yards per 100 grams. Based on that, it can be approximately 1026 - 1350 yards. I’m guessing it could be on the higher end, around 1300 yards because this yarn is very light.

I’m trying to find exactly the tutorial I followed for that but couldn’t find it anymore, I usually just search crochet straps, crochet lace strap, or crochet lacy strap/ribbon on RUclips, lol. I hope you find a design you would like. Anyway, it looks like after I did the foundation chain, I made fan stitch, not sure how many double crochets in each fan, then after the first row I turned and did the same on the bottom part or other side of the foundation chain but this time I did the fan stitch on the stitch that I skipped in between fans. I’m so sorry I cannot put it in writing properly, that’s why I don’t make written patters because I’m so bad at it. There are tons of great crochet straps or lace cords here on YT, I hope you find one that you will like. Anyway, thank you so much for the feedback. Sorry, I couldn’t help with the straps. ❤️

I think sport weight is also good for this design. I forgot if I was able to make one using sport weight yarn but as long as it’s not the heavy or stiff type I think it would be okay. I think 3.5mm is okay although I suggest to use the biggest hook size recommended for the yarn weight for a more flowy and lacy effect because of the looser stitches. You may try a bigger hook size if you find the stitches to be tight. My tension is a bit tight so sometimes I use 3.5mn to 4mm even with fingering weight yarns. Well, it’s just me because like I said, my stitches are tight. So you may try a few stitches using different hook sizes to see what you think looks and feels best. One more thing, may I ask how you crocheted the crisscross strap? It’s prettier than just crocheting a straight strap.

@Chrisc1995 If you mean the wavy strap pattern for the crisscross design, sadly I couldn’t find the tutorial or pattern for that one anymore. I just remember looking up here on YT tutorials for crochet lace straps or something like that. If you mean how the crisscross is done, you just have to xonnect the strap at the back to the other side instead, just make sure to add 1 to 2 inches to the length of the straps.

I totally forgot the exact steps because I did freehand and I didn’t take notes, sorry. Sadly, I don’t have the dress here with me anymore so I just zoomed in the pictures that I have. From what I can see I continued the square with increases in every corner of course which is 3dc chain 2 3dc, then chain 2 skip 2 stitches and 3 dc cluster on the next stitch and repeat throughout the round, let’s just say that’s row 1. Row 2, increase in every corner then dc on every stitch that means 2 dc on chain 2 since there are 2 stitches there. Row 3, increase every corner and back loop only sc into every stitch. Row 4 is the same as row 2. Row 5 is the same as row 3. Then repeat from row 1 to 5 until you reach the size you want. Of course you may continue with just dc on every stitch and increases on the corners if you want or any other stitches you want. I apologize if I’m not very sure with the stitches since I just also did trial and error and I’ve made that long ago. If there are things that are unclear you may just wing it and do what you think will look good. Good luck!
