You're one of the most underrated YT channels I've ever seen, I love your presentation and you're devoted to video games so bad which gives me a different kind of muse in terms of understanding "old-school" video games.

Bought it on 9/9/99 with Sonic and Soul Calibur. Soul Cal is INCREDIBLE! One of the best videogames ever made

I loved my PC Engine with CD growing up.I had a friend whose father worked in imports and exports so I was able to get one cheap and a lot of the games from Japan. I did mostly get CD games. The system had a lot of awesome hue cards too. So impressive for some what of an 8bit system. I loved my Sega but there were moment's where it wad pretty impressive up against the Genesis and super Nintendo games.

Loved this one! Do you think that if they launched a new version of it with 32bit some years later it would sell more?

That's fine and all but they all ran at 30fps or less. You might be more forgiving but there's a reason we moved on.

I brought the Dreamcast and was very glad that I did. The console was fantastic for what it managed to do at the time. If we did not have games like Shenmue, games like FF10 and MGS2 would have not pushed that hard to reach the heights that it did. All other competitors had to jump much higher to be to its level. And we had amazing other games like Jet Set Radio (honestly I cannot understand why you do not have that game or Grandia 2 to showcase) Thanks for the lovely memories.

I loved the Dreamcast! It wasn't the first console I got on release day, but it was the first console I lined up to pick up on release day. It came out on a work day so I went straight from the store to the office and had to look at the bag sitting by my desk all day. It was brutal! My coworkers who were into video games as well were all super envious and had to look at the box and the games I got with it (Soul Calibur and Sonic Adventure). It was such a shame that it was a failure and Sega pulled the plug so quickly into its life.

I do feel it is a disservice to portray these titles as how they “actually look” without using a method to achieve the intended display on a CRT. You have access to something as insane as a Retrotink 4k, which can achieve black frame insertion with 120hz panels to replicate CRT motion clarity as well as apply genuinely flawless CRT shader masks that are extremely comparable to the best looking televisions of the era and you decided to not utilize these features for a video about displaying the visual authenticity of the PS2? It’s a great video but feels like an odd choice taking the analogue signal and using it raw on a digital display it wasn’t meant for. Feels a lot less genuine to the true look of the system.

This was the very first console I ever purchased with my own money. I remember being overseas and going to a video game store and seeing a TV with a football game on in the window. Then I realized it wasn't a television game, it was NFL 2K. I had never seen a game that looks so realistic. Then I saw footage of Soul Calibur and it was the first time a video game Home console looks better than the arcade version. I thought I would never own a Sega since I was such a Nintendo guy, but the Dreamcast want me over and became my second favorite console of all time behind my Nintendo Entertainment System

Sorry, after all that effort on how you were going to capture the game.. but not using a CRT monitor? I feel like I'm missing something.... this isn't how Dreamcast games looked or should look.

The Dreamcast was amazing! Still one of my favorite systems. This system brought so much to the console race. Phantasy Star Online is my favorite game on the system.

I played Soulcalibur at the Toysrus and was blown away. It was better than arcade perfect. Such a shame the DC didn't succeed. I remember the visuals being so vibrant and sharp compared to the fuzzier PS2.

Why does ps3 games still look better than ps5 with very little graphic enhancements when emulating?

I have 4 dreamcasts! I have the Japan, US and EU versions.. It is my favorite console! Sad that they hacked it too fast and Sega stopped making other consoles..

Play Test Drive Le Mans, best looking racing game on the Dreamcast. Basically on par with PS2's GT3

I got this as a bday present on release date which is literally the day before my bday. After reading so many gamepro and EGM mags. I was hyped for it. Coming from a PS1 that I had to put upside to make it work 😂 it was a huge leap in terms of graphics. Never owned a Saturn or n64. My very first game was Sonic Adventures then followed by Grandia II , Sonic Adventures 2, Shenmue, Evolution 2, Skies of Arcadia and Marvel VS Capcom 1 & 2 was played competitively amongst friends. I even signed up for sega net and they sent me a free sega keyboard. It was cool as heck browsing the web on my tv and being able to play Phantast Star online. It was the first console to ever have online capabilities and the rest was history. Sony being a bigger brand and it was the era of dvds it really attracted a lot of customers. Keep in mind a dvd player cost around 400-500. We had a Pioneer DVD player that cost around 500. You can buy a PS2 for $299 with a built in dvd as well as game on it so it was a huge plus for everyone. I personally never owned one as I was still gaming on my Dreamcast till they decided to stop making games for it. GameCube came out and it was my gaming console for a very very long time. Didn’t even get a PS3 till the slim version came out. Got the PS4 at launch but immediately sold it and decided to build my PC. which I game on it for years went back on PS4 but the slim version. And now just recently got a PS5 slim last week. Thanks to the Dreamcast it sparked other consoles to have online capabilities

Like many folks on here I agree the DC was underrated and was by far superior to its competitors. When he got to the part of Soul Calibur, the memories that struck of playing with my lil brother and friends, We'd stay up late playing that game for hours. So many times our grandmother would bust open the door and told us to get our arses to bed LOL! Good times, great vid, thanks!

The Dreamcast is my favorite console of all time. I had a couple consoles afterwards, but I'm just a PC guy now. But in 1999 when I was 22, Dreamcast was it.

NEC’s PowerVR GPU is famous for it’s internal and external 32-bit color when most everything at the time were 16-bit, that’s how the system can have enough colors for gradients, shadings, and color operations, and that’s how the graphics are so clean. And the design of DreamCast also look a whole lot like NEC’s PC Engine.. I always secretly consider Dreamcast a what-if 3D PC Engine 😂

dreamcast was 🔥!!! Spawn: In the Demons Hand was far beyond its time. viewing madden plays on the control instead of on screen hasn't been duplicated to my knowledge. the only probelem was that off brand controllers fried it. Did i mention Spawn: In the Demon's hand was legit?

best time of my life this, 1999. Passed my driving test, got my car, got a job, brought a dreamcast! The last truly great console before things started to go "online". Something so special about that 1999-2000 era.

Sonic cd had the best music I have heard.

I was a teenager and had been following it in the magazines and saving up my own money from mowing lawns in the neighborhood. Had the pre-order locked in and I remember going to Toys R Us on 9/9/99, and there didn't seem to be much fanfare. I just walked through quietly and picked up my machine, along with Soul Calibur. That game had such a spectacular run among my friends and I. My dad was always quoting the announcer! 😆 In short order, I would pick up Sonic, Crazy Taxi and Ready 2 Rumble boxing. After a couple of years, I was old enough for a regular job and eventually picked up a PS2. But the DC would always be my favorite, with titles like MvC2, Capcom vs SNK, and weird little gems like Armada and JGR. Over the last year, I have lost both of my parents and find myself unexpectedly emotional recalling a happier time. Thanks for this. 🤙

Bruh even in 99-00 this thing was faster than my pc if I went on the internet! The controller was amazing I’m sure it would be lighter by now. I’m still sad they let this ☠️ 😢

The dream cast mistakes was the DVD player. If it had that PS2 would been looked at more correctly by everyone. What happened to the Dreamcast as I see it is it turned into the legendary Xbox.

Dream cast was so much better than PS2. It took a longtime until Ps2 was any good.
