Before fully watching the video, let me say that I appreciate the premise of it. While is common to be sassy about easily critized games, I personally love when people share their positive and passionate experiences with them instead. Also yes, I do love XIII trilogy and I always plan to come back to it eventually

As a newcomer in the franchise (playing VII and XIV, finished XV and XVI) i always wondered why XIII was so hated. Since i was a kid i'm able to feel an amazing charisma coming from it, i always had good impressions of the art direction especially. The only console i own nowadays is a PS5, so i can't play this one in the moment. But i'll definitely play it when i get the opportunity. I don't know why, but my little me always thought Final Fantasy was the coolest thing ever, i just couldn't play it because of the language barrier, but now that i'm able to play thoses games, i can happily say it: my 10 years old self was right after all! Gonna sound weird but this game left a mark on me. I finished it way back in 2011? I was in middle school then and it was one ofbthr biggest cinematic games i had played at the time, it opened my eyes to what games could be and i was blown away by the graphics....because at the time the graphics were memorising. I actually enjoyed chapter 11 and the exploration as theres more areas than you think to explore. Issue with the game isnt the linearity as frankly a lot of ff games are linear ( i know im gonna get shit on for this ), its that when u get to a city or town and there were a few times in flash backs and so on where you do get to walk around, theres sooo little interaction. The game relies so much on the epic cutscenes and ignores how the game could use it's own medium to tell a story. But anyways the story was amazing and is all about facsim, plus i like how at the end u can return to pulse to keep exploring and doing side missions
Regarding the linearity, I think the main point is that it is so obvious... usually a linear game doesn't feel that linear, but with FF13 it FEELS linear! Thanks for the comment!!!
@VideoGameShowcase yeah u make that point in the video, how there's a world map when you don't even need a world map. But yes the other final fantasy games are still linear to a large extent in terms of gameplay and so on, the very early ones do differ with their large worlds
The very early ones are super open which in my opinion is detrimental to the games, especially with them not being so clear in what to do / where to go / how to reach the next main area!
yup i have played the early ones like 6 and beforehand and they are very very open world but again like you said its not clear what to do and i do no like random battles @@VideoGameShowcase
I hated this game when it first released, but this video has persuaded me to give it another shot. I too finished 16 recently and I’m in the mood. Great video capture btw, keep it up!
I really loved the trilogy despite all the negative reviews to the point that I plat 13-2 and Lightning Returns. Had so much good memories with it. However, I'm very hesitant to go back to it as it might ruin the whole thing for me. Too many good games have released since and going back to FF13 now will definitely show its flaws more
Great review! I can see you've poured your heart and soul on this game that it reflected amazing outcomes when reviewing FF XIII. I badly wanted to finish this game back in 2017 but my laptop isn't powerful enough to handle it. Now, I got a mid gaming rig and planning to play this gem.
I replayed this game recently and to this day have always been able to find plenty to complain about without mentioning the linearity, but I couldn't not watch this video when you went to the effort of getting a frame of Lightning doing the Dreamworks face for the thumbnail.
FFXIII’s soundtrack by Masashi Hamauzu truly felt like home to me for at least a decade. Maybe it still does 😂 I just haven’t listened to it in a long time but it was so special. It’s got variety and it’s got heart.
It’s actually insane how well the graphics hold up. 13 has never been one of my favourite but recently I feel like playing it again. Shame it’s not playable on ps4 or 5… Hurry up and give it a remaster or even just put it on classics catalogue.

Keep in mind that is a port of the PS3 code, and on that generation, PS3 used the Cell processor, which is hard to optimize and hard to port to other systems. And the CGI cinematic sequences are highly compressed on XBOX/PC ports. PS3 has uncompressed CGI sequences thanks to the the Blu-Ray. So I would prefer a remaster/remake of this version.

Later, I bought it for the PS3 and the difference was very noticeable in the cinematics above all. And in chapter 11 (mentioned in the video), the open world renders with issues and FPS drops to 10-15 on the Xbox, something that didn't happen to me on PS3. But when you're playing it on Xbox One, it should run much better than in its original version.
for pure gameplay, im honestly more than ok with this level of graphics. then at a specific point of the game, a high budget cutscene would play out. it feels like a reward for the playing you have done sor far.
It is nice to see when someone sees the good things about a game. Unfortunately I stopped after playing it for 8 hours. It was a major let down in comparison to FF12, and funnily enough I do remember being really confused about all the Fae le Ce kind of stuff too. But I also remember it also was the most graphically impressive game out of them all too. I wished I gave it another solid go but I am not too sure. I think I have it for PC. Anyone here knows if it works ok on PC?
bruh, this was my first game ever i got in a console, a year later after getting it, my xbox 360 was stolen. It wasn´t after 10 years later of that that i finally have a pc and i cant wait to play this game and finish it. Idk about anyone that hates it, it was my first videogame ever and i keep it close to my heart.(sorry for my english, its not my first language)

11:33 I turned off the minimap when I played and fully recommend everyone else do the same. It clears away distractions and allows full immersion. Totally agree.
I agree with you. The gran pulse plain was so different and so much more difficult, that I put the game down for months. Finally I finished it, and liked it as a whole, but that part stuck out like a sore thumb.
Great video. FF13 has aged so well and I hope when SE eventually does a remaster they add 13-2 in because nobody gave that a fair shot even though it fixes the main gripe everyone has with 13.

I think it's the best in the Trilogy, though I would call it excellent, and not perfect. The gameplay is sped up, and the frantic pace of the battles I think fits with the tone and pace of the game. The story is completely nuts, but in a good, over the top way. And the ending...hoo boy. It hits you HARD. Speaking of which, I also recommend getting the story DLC, "Requiem of a Goddess", as it adds additional context to the ending of the game. There's a second story DLC for a character from 13 that isn't required, so I consider it optional.
Dude I have the exact same thoughts, I don't know how, after play more than half of FF16 I just so afraid it will end and I will search other FF games and next in my list is 13 hahaha!
FF13s combat system i actually really enjoyed. People hated the game but i loved it. Yes its super linear most of the game. But the end game stuff is really fun I liked ff13 and 13-2, 13LR was.. meh
I'm not sure I'd go as far to say it's one of my favourite J-RPG's, but I definitely enjoyed my time with the game! I wouldn't rate is as high as FF7, FF9, FF16 in the Final Fantasy IP! Still, great game, much better than what a lot of people paint of it.
Im being honest Only play FF13 if you like battles otherwise play a different FF there are no towns and most of the characters except lightning are dull Play FF13-2 its much much better

Unconvincing. FF13 is nothing more than a graphic showcase with good soundtracks. Don't try so hard getting people to try ff13. Play star ocean the 2nd story R (releases today) and you'll know what a masterpiece sci-fi j-rpg equals to.
I finished Star Ocean 2 earlier this year on the PS1 and I absolute loved it! I played as Claude and now with the remake I’m considering playing through it again but as Rena!

I listen to it all the time. So many great tracks… Snow’s Theme, Defiers of Fate, Lake Bresha are among my favourites!

As far as I know it works well on PC, and there are mods that improve the experience too!

What killed me was the loss of direction when you got to Gran Pulse.
