Adding all the points: Black has 47,97 points + 1 king White has 47,54 points + 1 king White starts. I used play this game against the engine all the time and always lost with either black or white. It's an incredible variant!
7:40 Bro reminded me of Gotei 13
"Every major form of chess has some sort of knight...," There's got to be something like a knight." Chu shogi players hearing this lol.
Chu Shogi is a variant of Shogi though
shouldve added a chess piece that can spawn on the square it sits a pile of rice equal in number to two raised to the power of that squares file multiplied by its rank
Will there be a mobile version?
Yeah bigger and more is not alway better…
This looks like it is gonna be a fun game.
If you don’t want to lose Quickkly.Suggestion is first move in Makruk don’t move Pawn in front of Knight or Rook
Summarizing the lion capture rules: 1 - An attacking lion cannot capture an opposing lion if, at the start of the turn, the opposing lion was two squares away AND protected by another piece, UNLESS the attacking lion captures a non-pawn-non-go-between piece in the first step of the turn. 2 - If a player captures a lion with a non-lion piece, during the opponent's next turn said opponent cannot capture the first player's lion with a non-lion piece.
I imagine that in an Empire VS Empire mirror match, the rules for promotion would be different, allowing Pawns to promote to any of the four Empire major pieces but not a queen. This could be interesting, as each of them have their advantages and disadvantages, making the choice more impactful, unlike in nornal chess were 99% of the time you promote to a Queen.
Is there a mirror Empire variant?
Yurt like Silver General from Shogi 😂😂😂😂😂
I hate my network
When showing the Horse, the verbiage states that the Horse can move one space orthogonally then one space diagonally 'forwards', but in the video you show it moving diagonally backwards as well. Can it move both diagonally forwards and backwards, or just forwards?
By forwards I meant in the same direction of the orthogonal step
Would it be possible to add Wa Shogi too? Also, thank you for this informative video 👍
Problem with Wa Shogi is that the rules are less defined. Theoretically it could be added to Lishogi, but it also doesn't have the demand that Chu Shogi did...
@@CouchTomato87 Aaaaah, I see. Well, I'll keep hope to seeing it in a future, with drops. Also, I assume there's little demand for Sho Shogi, right?
@@noteimporta1216 yea sho shogi is a dead game
I came up with an idea to give the side-mover and vertical-mover more "in fantasy" names: sentry (as it moves side-to-side, keeping an eye on a zone) and scout (as it goes up and down, exploring a hostile area).
Fun fact: there are only two squares where a divine king has full range of movement; those squares where both second-from-the-left and second-from-the-right pawns start.
A very unique variation and a fun one. A friend and me tried this IRL (we used a shogi board, a shogi piece as the offering, checkers as pawns, pawns as shamans, bishops as quetzals and queens as jaguars). We also tried buffing some pieces. It was more aggressive but it kinda worked. Quetzal: gave it also king movement, so it always have some movement option. Jaguar: changed it jumping movement as jumping like a chu shogi lion, to any square surrounding its one step movement (but no double movement). Shaman: for this one, we got inspired by janggi and how pieces change their movement inside the palace. Basically, fitting their role as religious figures, shamans also had horizontal movement on the temple (bordering the offering). Also, they could jump over their controller's (but not the opponent's) offering, to the other side of the temple, but as a non capturing movement only.
Did anyone make an analysis on white black balance?
Thank you very much for these videos, they helped me a lot to improve my understanding of Chu shogi. I would really like you to release new videos about tactics and strategy in Chu shogi
We want more videos like this and more chennis game videos
I lost it at the drunk elephant being too drunk to move backwards.
I assume that in Orda Mirror the promotion rule is to either a Falcon or a Kheshig.
It's any piece of your choice
Real fail not including the other Shogi sizes like this and Dai Shogi, which is the original, on PyChess.
It’s not possible due to size limitations
Tenjiku Shogi would be awesome lol
chennis!
This guy hasn’t uploaded for a decent amount of time, kinda sad tbh
There wasn’t anything that urgently needed a video (I think I had most variants covered). We just had a slew of new variants out in Pychess so expect some videos down the line. Also my video editing software got much worse after an update so it’s been very challenging..
Please make a video on shinobi chess
A very nice type of chess! *Thanks a lot for posting this.* Somehow I missed it. I was actually waiting for Capablanca/Gothic chess to appear on lichess but it seems that it has been on Pychess for some time now. And I didn't even know! I missed it!
Ferz is what the queen is called in Russian lol
What’s all the chess variants that appear in the map at 0:59
Excellent game
Can I make an arena or swiss tournament. I want to be able to make my own tournaments like on lichess but I dont think thats a feature.
You can but just have to request it atm
Thanks for the information! 🙂@@CouchTomato87
This is really a beautiful game. I hope more people play it.
What a fantastic job you are doing for chess and ancient games in general. Thankyou so much. Your site is brilliant.
Would empire army vs spartan army be balanced you think?
They're both balanced against standard army, so probably yes xD, except that's not so simple, apart from first move advantage and special rules like campmate, or king face-off which can favour one of the sides, the main difference are the pawns, if empire having mostly standard pawns is on even playing field against army with standard pawns which can result in some pawn blockades doesn't have much to do with how it'd perform against spartan army where spartan pawns don't block the board, but can sneak around standard pawns/trade most of them. To know for sure we'd need to test it with engine and then actually play it a number of times. Out of real examples we've tested orda vs empire and to make it balanced we needed to boost orda army a bit my changing the yurt to a piece moving like a knight and capturing like a king.
@@pychess i had thought about the facing and campmate but not about the pawns good point. I may try my hand at balancing with the engine sometime. I was interested in all the different army matchups but I think this one would be especially cool for the Spartans vs Persia theme.
Thank you for this video and for where to play.
I have a variant of international chess that I invented based on this. It's essentially the same, with the 16 pawns only on the board at the start, but on the 2nd and 7th ranks. Players then alternately place the other pieces behind the pawns where they wish, following the rules of Chess960 relating to rook placement and opposite colour bishops. It introduces a new game phase as players set up their boards as they want to, rather than assigned a position as in 960. It also differs from 960 in that both players can have different opening arrangments, rather than mirror arrangements. Now I just have to get some pro chess players to take it up.
the king can never altermate the other king
Would like to see this with Japanese pieces...
Hmmmm, you know, having the pawns in the third row, promoting on the opponent's third row, khons moving like silver generals... I wonder if shogi was actually based on makruk.
A very interesting alternative to shogi, thanks for giving light to it.
The fish is the most important part of the game.
So, the elephants are, essentially, buffed horses.
Not at all. Elephants have just as many movement points as horses but are more awkward and can be broken at more points
@@CouchTomato87 Oh, I meant "buffed" because they travel more squares in a similar pattern.
Janggi looks like Xiangqi, but gameplay is quite different. The lack of river makes the elephants attacking pieces, while in Xiangqi they were only for defense.
Played a few games of this and I think it’s fun!
Palace moves also apply for ur own palace?
That's correct
Do you have vid on sho a Shogi
Neither Pychess nor Lishogi support sho shogi, which is kind of a dead variant. It's basically like shatranj for chess.
hi Pychess I cannot play makruk on iphone could you pls tell me thanks ...
You'd have to give more info. What problems are you facing?
I thought it was a real variant have you covered chess 2 by oats
How is this not a "real variant"?
