    I came up with an idea to give the side-mover and vertical-mover more "in fantasy" names: sentry (as it moves side-to-side, keeping an eye on a zone) and scout (as it goes up and down, exploring a hostile area).

    I lost it at the drunk elephant being too drunk to move backwards.

      The drunk elephant should promote to a sober elephant 🐘

    • @dax0050
      @dax0050 Год назад +1

      It's name originates from the fact that elephants used to be fed alcohol before battle, such that they would get enraged and go berserk.

    2:23 Promotion is quite different from modern shogi. You can promote after: entering the promotion zone from outside, or capturing with a piece that began its turn in the promotion zone.

      If you know how to play Chu Shogi, Dai Shogi is actually not that hard to learn.
      Aside from the starting setup and the 15x15 board, there are only 7 pieces unique to Dai Shogi + the knight, also the lion trading rules do not apply to Dai Shogi.

    i have created a variant but have no idea how to program it

  • @Inifroyo5459

    I’m confused on your explanation of the soaring eagle and horned falcon, you mentioned that their lion movements allowed them to move forward one square, and then back to their original position.
    But how does that work, if we imagine the horned falcon as having two separate moves, wouldn’t it just move forward once, and because it has no lion moves backwards from that position, it would be forced to move forward again. Can it only go forwards once committing to the lion move, or is an inherit part of having lion moves is being able to go back to your original position.

    • @pychess
      @pychess  Год назад

      The lion moves are basically in that direction INCLUDING the starting position. So yes, lion moves allow them to go back to their starting position after stepping one step in that direction.

    can the lion move to an unoccupied square then back to where it started?
    if it can, that seems like a way of being able to pass

    • @dax0050
      @dax0050 Год назад

      Yes, a player can pass their turn that way. Over the board, this is signified by double-tapping your lion. Likewise, if you don't have a lion, you can pass your turn with a falcon or eagle, if it has an unoccupied square in the direction of its lion-movement.
