Infinity IRS V in the PS Audio extreme version
Four towers, 228 cm tall and with a weight of 681 kg Infinity IRS V was considered to be the worlds best speaker when it was introduced in 1988. PS Audio CEO Paul McGowan has made an extreme version of the speaker as a reference. But now he has created his own speakers that he think it`s better. Are they?

It's SOLDER Septic.
Just WOW!
The hardest thing to replicate must be rain/wind ambience. There is always gonna be junk noise mixed in. I can relax 100% when its raining outside. But recorded ambience just stress me for some reason.
I remember those. At the tyme they were $10k
Paul is still smokin' that wacky weed if he thinks cables make an audible difference
As a DIY speaker builder I get very inspired. Respect.
I have always wanted to hear Magico speakers along with some other brands i am interested in but Australia is so far behind in the Audio industry its a joke really .
Hard work does pay off
So basically these are modified, bastardized, unoriginal speakers.
Done in collobartion with the original designer Arnie Nudell. So I don’t think bastardized would be the right word 😊
Paul, you’re awesome. Thanks for the historic tour!
Thank you!
That intrusive, annoying subscribe pop-up (@0.16) is completely out of place for a sound/music-oriented RUclips channel. Who's responsible for your video editing? Paul, I really appreciate your videos and their content in general.
This is not his channel, but the hifi-channel Stereo+. We know many people dislike anything about subscription in a video, but we have to have subscribers to get views. No views, no reason to have a RUclips-channel 😊
You missed the part of the Monster Cable story in which the company embarked on a series of frivolous, predatory lawsuits against independent cable manufacturers.
This is not the story about Monster Cable.

When Arnie Nudell hears Paul McGowan call their FRS-30 a "IRS Killer" he must roll over in his grave. Sorry Paul, but no comparison.
Zip cord is 22 ga. Lamp cord is 14 ga. Get it rite !!!!
those speakers cost as much as a house Who buys this stuff ?
👍
Awesome Story
Thank you 😊

I was in high school when the V came out. I saw it advertised in stereo review and drove 45 miles to Rochester NY the nearest Infinity dealer to hear a pair. I was so sad to find out that the dealer the dealer didn’t have a pair. I then drove 50 12:05 miles to Buffalo NY to hear a pair. Disappointed again. As a 16 year old it never occurred to me that the $30,000 price ( I’m probably wrong, it’s been a long time) would mean that I would never hear a pair. 😢 As a side note, my first real system was a pair of Polk 7c’s and a PS audio amp- thanks for the memories, Paul
Paul, get better membranes from Graz in Australia. Or have the EMIMs upgraded with better magnets, longer travel too.
A sincere "THANK YOU" to you, Paul. 🎶👂🙂👍
Nice video --- a new clip with music performances would be a great follow up!
Thank you 😊 The speakers wasn’t working when we visit PS Audio.
A friend of mine was lucky enough to find a set of these in the original shipping boxes. I believe they were finished in black walnut if I remember correctly. He was always able to find amazing speakers at great deals.
das können gar nicht die besten Lautsprecher sein weil der Phasen unterschied viel zu hoch ist.....Viele Lautsprecher verderben die Wiedergabe....
For en fyr!! Herlig.. 👌🥸
When I was writing for The Absolute Sound in the 1980s, Harry Pearson invited me to Sea Cliff a few times and I heard the first version of these . As you may know, Harry had them set up in Listening Room #1, which was impossibly small, but they sounded wonderful nevertheless.
You could be 50 - 75 pairs of used Dunlavy SC-V, arguably the most accurate speakers ever built, for that price.
I wondered what came after the Servo-Statics. That's what my friend Frank Richards had. He was running them with a audio Research tube gear.
Monster cable makes just about the worst sounding “high-end” cable.
Remember when the original Infinity IRS used RTR Electrostatic panels used in the RTR ESR 6 and 15 before going with the ribbon type drivers. The RTR high frequency drivers were probably the finest ever produced. Infinity used them in a vertical line while RTR is a curved array. My store sold 12 RTR DR1 360 degree electrostatic mid and high frequency unit in a tower box with the 10” woofers and a internal 10” drive wired out of phase to provide negative pressure to control/dampen the two external 10” drivers in a sealed enclosure. . It was both very good looking speaker and the sound was superb. We also sold the Dr.Alan Hill’s “Hill Plasmatronic Loudspeake” and “Accoustats.”Except for the the “Ivonovac” tweeter nothing and I mean nothing could match the top end to this day. The only thermodynamic loudspeaker, plus it glowd lavender in the dark and killed mold and mildew from the burning of helium used in the creation of the plasma.
My wife said me to like this video (15:25) -:) So I did
Awesome episode!!!
Thank you 😊
the wife is all ways right because you live with her
What's the market for speakers like these? They may sound great, but those are huge and obtrusive. I can't see many people wanting that.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Paul smoked WEED????????? NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMFAO... Love ya paul!!
great bio, thanks for sharing your story. I'm lol re the spend of your first $500. Classic : )
My other guitar play back in the day used a regular guitar cable to hook up his ano to speaker cabinet. I said, Hey, NO GOOD! He blew up a perfectly good Marshall. Thn learned. Speaker cables make a difference.😊
Love the museum, inspiring
It will be amazing to listen to a Mahler on them
This history of PS Audio is the most fascinating thing I've heard him discuss in a video. Awesome!
Thank you 😊
A pound🤣🤣
Met this man a few months ago when I picked up my turntable... Very impressive visit it was...!
"the magnet size doesnt really matter" lol, someone really didnt understand anything about subs. QTC is something that person should read about.
Expensive certainly
Hello Paul, I am writing to you from Chile. What is your opinion of the Infinity rs-1b, I bought them with my eyes closed, I realized that there is a problem with the EMIM, there are some tapes that are loose, it is worth restoring them
This is a Norwegian hifi-channel. So it’s better to Contact Paul on youtube.com/@paulmcgowanpsaudio?si=AHwvlY92wXoKLQWy
Thank you Paul you're a great human being and a wonderful engineer
This is pathetic. Big does not mean better, just louder. The size of these together with having to align that many drivers is probably doing more harm than good... I also really love it that you have the subs many feet further away from the listening position than the mid/tops, because we all know bass frequencies travel so much faster than high frequencies right..? lol. Time alignment must be great lol...
Have you heard them or other linesource-systems?
@@Stereopluss That's irrelevant. Time and phase alignment, and stereo imaging is more important than flashy looking...
