  • The Magico M7 is the little brother of the world's most expensive speaker, the M9. Stereo+ was the first hifi-magazine in the world to listen to them. With a price tag of 375.000 dollar, they are not cheap, but the big brother costs 750.000 dollar!

    Those rare moments I find an exceptional control room with truly revelatory sound, it is never a multi-driver array type. It is instead as close as possible to a point source and typically a 2-way full range. A handful of Meyer and JBL have satisfied that revelatory metric, and a few Genelecs as well.
    It is physically impossible for these Magicos to be “100% faithful to the music” as implied. That much is physics-based, factual, understood by me as well as anyone trained in acoustic science. It can be shown why, and hearing is proof.
    Unfortunately, the audiophile community has very different goals to us in the music production field. They buy image, we couldn’t care less how something looks. They spend as much as humanly possible, we look for the most affordable perfection we can swing.

  • @swllz

    What about frequency response, is it 20Hz to 20Khz, +,- 3db? or 1db or 0.5db. Customers should expect +, - .5db with that price tag. If it's +, - 3db, it's just a nicely finished heavy weight furniture.

    • @Fluterra
      @Fluterra Месяц назад +1

      No one should really care about frequency response, other than being with +/- 5 dB. No room is perfectly flat even if the speakers are close to being perfectly flat. And more importantly: flat response sounds terrible. Dull, lifeless and analytic. If that’s what you’re after, go for it.

    It’s interesting… but what if, the instrumentation / sound-profile in electronic music is constructed on the expectation of ‘boom’ / port-resonance? What if the speaker and its ‘erroneous’ properties are a part of what the original recorded sound anticipates: expects? There is no such thing as ‘neutral’ because there is an interpretive/reproductive anticipation even at the level of the performer/instrument.

  • @paulomontero12

    Things like this shouldn’t be this expensive! The materials that they use for loudspeakers generally aren’t that extensive to put together. CNC machines are expensive.

    • @klaymoon1
      @klaymoon1 8 месяцев назад +3

      Mostly it’s the tooling, R&D, marketing and dealer mark ups. Dealers get at least $175k. Shipping something like this is 5-10k. Material 25k. Labor 20k. But, tooling and factory overhead can be over 40k. Also, attending to various shows and store events can be a half million a year. A the end the day, Magico profits $50k if it’s lucky. They will sell maybe 100 of these, max 300. Sure, $5-15 millions is good money. But, Magico makes bigger money from their cheaper speakers like A series and S series. They need these flagships like in order to sell the cheaper speakers.

    Looks great! But for $375k, I wish it was bigger. At least 6 inch taller. For a price of a small condo, it must look expensive as well. M9 looks like a million dollar speaker because they look special, its unique presence commences whatever ask for kind of pricing. As expensive as it is, it passes that hard to find test. But, M7 will make your wife and guests to scratch their heads and look at you with that certain look. I’m sure M7 sounds fantastic, but its appearance/presence does not justify the asking price for a guy like me who does not have unlimited resources yet. At least, Wilson’s $375k speakers have the presence. The sound alone is not enough for this kind of money. It must have the presence. So, whoever the marketing guy who said it must be under a certain dimension otherwise the shipping will be too expensive and the dealers will hate it, he doesn’t know what he is talking about.
