Focused on old, historic, characterful pubs. Mostly in London, but including some country pubs, and eventually will cover pubs in other towns and cities. I like pubby pubs. Pubs where you can feel a sense of history and continuity. Unspoilt pubs. Pubs where you can have a pint of traditional English ale (which doesn't taste of grapefuit). I'm not into modern pubs and I can't stand gastropubs with their horrible Farrow and Ball paint jobs.

Barnet and Whetstone Pubs
I explore the pub history of the London Borough of Barnet, taking in both Whetstone and High Barnet (AKA Chipping Barnet). Both of these settlements grew up along the Great North Road, a major coaching route, so this area is awash with former coaching inns, although many of them are now long since closed.

A slightly unexpected choice here, with some really good more traditional pubs missed, Elderfield, Chesham. The demographic has changed but central Hackney retains variety, albeit less working class pubs, and old guys like me can remember bas ‘black’ pubs (now all gone).

Captain James Cook went to his church services and lived in the olde mile end road, originally Whitby maybe that's where the prospect acquired its name.
