    Just a question: So if the floor plan / rooms are divided by doors etc, are "thresholds' for expansion due to different room temperatures etc 'DEFINITELY' needed (a must)...or is this only reserved for open plan layouts where the temperature is normally the same?.

    • @FinePineNorwichCarpenter
      @FinePineNorwichCarpenter 11 дней назад

      Good question. I understand thresholds very different because i dont think thresholds are for expansion. People use thresholds between rooms because it easier to fit a threshold there than fitting running continues floor between rooms. Its harder to do that and thatw what i try to do always - one big floor without thresholds. Ans have thresholds only between new floor and carpet or tiles etc. keep expansion gap only around edge of the room.....

    • @jcs3330
      @jcs3330 11 дней назад

      @@FinePineNorwichCarpenter Thank you so much for you reply. I asked because I had a LVT floating floor fitted about 6 months ago throughout the ground floor, with 4 internal doors. Both my floor fitter and I agreed that it looked better without the thresholds fitted, giving it an 'unbroken' flow from room-to-room, but he was also willing to fit them if I decided to have them. He done the same has you described, expansion gap on the outside edge only (with one at the front door also). The only reason I paid the manufacturing/supplier because without them fitted the 25 year guarantee would be invalid. So far all good and if something does happen (well they can always be added and scuffed etc to keep the warranty!)

    The risers on my stairs don't go down flush with the bottom of my treads, there is about 1/2" missing on the bottom of some risers. The builder had to nail the bottom of the risers into the treads at an angle and some of the risers are splitting. How would you fix this if it were your house? I'm thinking of cutting pieces of plywood and glue/screwing them to the risers, then screwing the bottoms into the treads.

    • @FinePineNorwichCarpenter
      @FinePineNorwichCarpenter Месяц назад

      I know what you mean richard. The rest of the floor had a gap between existing skirting and new floor so they needed a scotia beading. I thought i would film the small part of the flooring where scotia meets architrave because of that 45degree angle turn which is important. But in that part skirting was high up and there was already a gap and floor slotted underneath there. You need to slide the floor underneath trimmed architrave but i was luck my akirting was up but 10 mm as well there so done the floor underneath there too. Thanks for a good comment!

    Did you use a hygrometer to test the concrete moisture levels? I’m about to undertake a herringbone installation in my living room, the subfloor is a mix of wood and concrete, I’m unsure if will be fine to just seal the concrete with the Bostik product you used or if I’d need to apply a liquid DPM first? There’s no sign of damp, the concrete part is on the centre of the living room and so not connected to an external wall, surely it would be fine?
