Fiber blanket? I always thought it was toxic! Thanks for the info.
Thanks for the eye suggestions
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Great demo! The wheels are spinning for sure. I've been wondering how scale effects the difficulty of projects like this. I feel I'd like to start smaller and work up in scale, but is smaller more difficult? Thanks!
I don't think so. Starting at about half the size of the demo piece will make it much easier.
@@RAMickelsen I attempted my first manta ray this weekend. The smaller scale worked well for me, she's about 2" wingtip to wingtip. I learned so much from this exercise and came away with the confidence to try more new things. Oh, and I also came away with a piece of art that truthfully I wouldn't purchase if I saw it in a giftshop, maybe I'd even laugh at it a little, but nonetheless I love it and will proudly display it on my desktop. Thank you for this video, I can't wait to watch and try more!
I've read about heat base, Bandhu certainly writes about it, and I've heard others talk about it. But visualizing it in this format and then seeing it in action really helps me. Awesome, thank you!
May I ask COE, you speak of not having to go back and heat body while you are working on legs. Is it 33? Is that one of the reasons people pick 33 over soft glass, I use soft glass and I think mine would definitely crack.
Soft glass is definitely more sensitive, but I believe the soft glass insects like Vittorio Costantini makes are done the same way. Progress your heat radially, from the center out. If you are in doubt, you could anneal the body with the extensions first and then add the legs to the tips of the extensions while the piece is cold.
I'm just getting started and found you via a Salem Community College video. Your art is incredible. Your desire to share your knowledge and experience is extraordinary. Thank you and I'm beyond excited to start watching and liking your content!
The man… You are such an awesome motivation tool!!!!
I am such a tool!
Would this technique be applicable to soft 104 glass?
I don't see why not.
Beautiful! I enjoy the voice over with the explanations. I assume this is boro glads and not soft 104. I wonder what temperature the kiln is set to in between adding the fins. Thank you so much!

breathing sounds... with a fish thingy...
Great tutorial - any chance at seeing your hollow form jack tuna tutorial ?
I think you mean a Skipjack Tuna. I prefer to make yellowfins, but it is a good idea to try a hollow one. Thanks for the suggestion. Stay tuned.

@@Aquaticfireartglass I actually do get a small royalty.
Most noise cancelling headphones have a mode that will single out voices and even more have a "tranparency" mode that almost completely negates the closed back design making them nore similar to openback headphones.
