Controlling Pro Presenter with Ableton via WiFi
Did you encounter problems with playing back the lyric video? For our Christmas show last year a video would play normally, but when synced with timecode it would stutter. Do you have any thoughts what that could be? Your video seems to be doing okay...
How do you group fixtures together so that you can have delay effects and stuff?
@@garyh4458 I’m not entirely sure what you mean by delay effects in this context. Can you elaborate on that?
@@Quiksilver6565 I mean, like if you have 10 moving heads but you only want 4 of them to be work together in a 4 effect. Do you just pick and choose when ones the effect applies to? Mainly, I am wondering how to control groups of lights at a time but, at the same, time not always grouping them together. ie maybe at the start of the song the middle 5 are doing stuff together but later on they are split into two other groups doing completely different things.
What happens if I add presets with different values to the same cue. For example, what if I add a red color and a blue color for the same fixture to a cue.
@@garyh4458 it will produce the average of both values. So two presets with a light at 100% and 0% will cause that light to go to 50%
@@Quiksilver6565 I would not have expected that. What happens if the values have to do with rotation? Would it average out the values and maybe move in an unpredictable manner?
As someone who does laser light shows, this is some refreshingly simple. Very cool.
Hello, I hope there still is somebody active overhere - I was wondering if you are able to make an automatich playlist out of the cues. So you haven't got to press the space bar all the time. Can you adjust the timing too?
Hi! Were can I download song and set templates?
Hi Jeremy! Thanks for your good videos! I have seen them all several times! But I can not find out how to make a blackout button! Could you please help me?
Assign a midi note to lightkey’s play button. You would have a note for each songs starting cue that would fire when you changed songs, then a note that hits the play button to advance through each cue
I am interested in sending a space bar command from ProPresenter7 to lightkey. How do I do that? I currently can select lightkey cues from ProPresenter7 using Macros but I would like to have a Macro that only advances Lightkey to the next cue.
Hello! I know this is about Ableton, but can our media director connect with you to help us with Lightkey App?
I'd be happy to help out
if all your tracks are sent to the group (rather than sends only) and the group is sent to sends only, wouldn't that also accomplish what you want? By doing it this way, it allows you to adjust the volume of all the tracks with the master fader of the group.
@@mp2866 We route each instrument group out to different physical audio outputs, so drums, bass, guitars, etc. show up as separate channels on the console for the audio guy to mix. If I route the tracks to the multitrack group first, it would only allow those tracks to go down one stereo channel (whatever output the group is assigned to), rather than out to the 7 separate sends. If I sent them to both the group AND routed them to the sends, I would get two signals from each track: one from the group output, and one from the send. “Sends only” ensures that the tracks only go out to those separate sends. It does unfortunately take away the group volume functionality (I’m not actually sure if ableton has a DCA function or not), but I haven’t found a huge need for that in the past
This song has carried me through out the years and still does❤🔥Yes and it has come to pass-I have seen the goodness of God
Thank you Jeremy, you’re the only person I know that is doing these kinds of cues. How can I store them or can I transfer the song cue to another page? Could you do a start to finish song cue like how did you originate it and how to put in list. I know the middle by putting in pallets but it’s the start and end that is getting me.
Hello Jeremy thanks for this video, was wondering if you could help me little more with setting up my set up. Still new to this and can't seem to get it right
What are you having trouble with? I can do my best to explain some of the process
@@Quiksilver6565 setting up, i been trying to follow your videos but for some reason I cant get it to work.
Really cool technique, thanks for sharing! I was having some issues with this on Abelton 11 due to the CC7 (volume control) event firing after assigning it from the clip to master volume. If I went into midi assign mod;e it was just use CC7 for any other midi assign I was trying. Couldn't figure out why so looked for alternative and found it in case anyone has same problem: * Create an Audio Track (call it "Fade Out") - this will be your master volume * Route all your tracks to go through this fade out track, make sure anything you want faded is routed to it (via the Audio Output setting of the track) * Set the track monitoring mode of "Fade Out" to "In", so all the routed tracks can be heard when playing * Drop an audio clip on the "Fade Out" track which is long enough to be your fade out (like a long cymbal crash) * Drop a Utility plugin on the "Fade Out" track (this will be the volume control, not the track volume or master volume) * Create an envelop on the clip in "Fade Out" track which automates the "Gain" value of the "Utility" plugin - in other words you're creating an envelope to control the utility plugins gain setting, not anything directly on the clip itself or the track volume Now when that clip plays it will automate the fadeout of the Utilty plugin, which is on a track which everything is routed to. This will be your fade out. You may need to figure out another solution for sends/returns though, haven't really factored them into this solution. As a bonus I map the "." key to the stop button, stop all clip buttons, anything like loopers you want to stop and clear, and also to the Utility "Gain" value. You can then restrict the mapping to be "0" for min and max values, so it will only set the value to "0". This is basically the key I press after the fade out to stop and clear everything, and reset the Utility Gain back to zero. Works well, though I only offer this as an alternative if you're having issues like I did, or you're on Windows where you don't have the same Midi system feature as shown here.
I haven’t, but I’ll have to try in 11 this week!
Yo! I watched all your videos, and implemented everything at my church! So thank you so much! Our quality has jumped significantly. Im running into issues with the "song list" being downloaded to ableton every time I download the updated song list. (Ableton triggers our lights) Now that i have like 25 pre made songs, my ableton guy says he cant just download "sunday service" Found a work around of making a whole new session every sunday with out the song list on the session. But It seems like there should be an easier work around lol. Is this why i should use propresentor to trigger instead?😂 or am should ableton work and we are just missing something.
I'm not sure I totally follow what your saying here, but I usually build out each song in Ableton in its own project file, so I would add my cues and midi notes to the song file, then drag that song file into the weekly Ableton project to build my Sunday set. This way I only have to add midi cues and tempo tracks etc. one time per song. In Lightkey, you could assign the starting cue of each song with a unique midi note that ableton can trigger, and then have ableton simply hit the Play button in Lightkey at the appropriate time. So for instance, if you have 2 songs in your set, the first song's set cue could be assigned to a D#2, and the second song could be assigned to a D2, and the play button to a C-1. In Ableton, the first song would have a midi note that sends a D#2 to fire the first song's lights, then through out the song it would have a bunch of notes sending a C-1 to play the next cue in the song. When it gets to song 2, it would fire a D2 note to fire the lights for the second song, and then C-1 again to hit the play button and advance the light cues at the appropriate time. All that is a bit awkward to explain in a comment, but I hope that helps point you in the right direction! These days I have actually moved everything over to timecode, so I am no longer using Midi for automation purposes, but I can help find a solution if you need any other help!
Massive Help. Thank you so much!
This song is still wonderful.
Which method do you feel is better, Using Ableton and Timecode to control ProPresenter, or Ableton and Midi. Ive been weighing my options, and at first glance Timecode might be better. My only pro i see on MIDI is that Everything is configured in one place, in Abelton. so if i need to make changes to the slides its done in ableton.
In my experience, timecode is much easier to set up, and more reliable. I like that it doesn’t rely on network, and it syncs no matter where you are, it doesn’t have to wait for the next cue to trigger before it gets back in sync. If you run special video content, or want backgrounds to change with the music it’s much more accurate, and it’s easier to use the timeline view in pro to get slides set up, plus you can use timecode with any system including audio and lighting
Hey! Great tutorial. Any chance you can talk about the Dante setup?
I’d be happy to walk you through the process! What console are you running?
@@Quiksilver6565 I am a completely new to this, sorry. Do you need to run it through your audio console? If you do unfortunately, I won’t be able to do so. I was hoping I can use date virtual card to go from one computer to another directly over network.
@@amidfilms989 the audio itself can be routed directly, however, for the Dante network to function it needs to have some piece of Dante hardware on the network like a Dante card in a console to act as a “hub.” Something like a Dante avio device could potentially work as well, but I don’t believe you can use DVS with no other hardware. The good news is that there are a lot of ways to get audio from one computer to the other, and it doesn’t really matter what you go with, timecode will still work!
@@amidfilms989 I actually just looked this up, and it looks like you CAN use Dante virtual sound card along side of Dante Via, and get it working that way. Dante via is another piece of software that can become the “hub” in place of a hardware device. So the solution would be to buy a license for via on one computer and for Dante virtual sound card, the. You could simply link the computers over LAN
@amidfilms989 This is a post from a rep at Audinate: “So, first of all, Dante Virtual Soundcard DOES require at least one Dante-enabled hardware device, or Dante Via to be present on the network to act as the master clock, as DVS cannot act as the master clock independently, and can only be a slave device to the master clock on the network. The master clock must be present on the network at ALL times. The master clock (Dante-enabled hardware or Dante Via) will be automatically selected as the master when it is connected, and you shouldn’t need to make any configurations to this. To answer the original post, having no Dante-enabled hardware device or Dante Via between two computers running Dante Virtual Soundcard will cause clock misconfiguration errors, as you can see. We do not support the use of DVS without a hardware device or Dante Via present on the network to act as the master clock. This is why you are unable to make it function correctly in this way. The Dante Controller is there to enable the user to make routes and configure devices only, and does not act as the clock master at all. Dante Controller DOES NOT handle clocking!! Once routes and devices are configured, Dante Controller can actually be removed from the network, i.e. the computer/s it’s installed on. Dante Via now supports multiple channels (16x16) between DAW applications, and can send audio between two computers without a Dante hardware device. However, if you wanted to run more than 16x16 channels between two computers, you might want to consider using two instances of Dante Virtual Soundcard on two separate computers, and Dante Via on a third computer to act as the clock master. Then you will be able to pass audio between the multiple channels available from DVS. Dante Virtual Soundcard and Dante Via are two different software applications, and cannot run simultaneously on the same computer at the same time. One needs to be stopped before the other application can be started. Hence the requirement for Dante Via on a third computer. I hope this clears everything up. If you have any further questions feel free to post back to this forum, or contact our support channel on our website…. You may find that many questions can also be answered in the FAQs available on the Audinate website. Thanks, Lisa”
Thanks Jeremy, this tutorial is fantastic. Recently started using Ableton Live to do my own music creation, the way you show how to configure fade in and out is definitely a time saver for me. Keep the tutorials coming. Thanks again.
I think the band said everything I wanted to say.
isnt there priority numbers to override vs averaging
Awesome God isn't He? ❤
Bro thank you for doing videos like this! We just recently started using Ableton at our church this past year and I arrange the tracks and outputs literally the exact same way y’all do. Came across this video in the middle of editing my arrangement lol. This is a game changer for sure! Thank you!!!
Anyone have an idea how to jump to the next locator right after fade. And maybe even fade back in right after the jump
Is there an easy way to adjust the timeline cues for a song when they change the tempo?
unfortunately you would just need to re record the slide changes
This is so helpful… Thank you. I have been looking all over for a solution like this. This is a game changer!!!
How would I do this to fade out a track when the track is stopped?
In that case, all you would have to do would be to assign a key on the keyboard to the mute button on that track or group. There is no need for a fade if the track isn't playing, so assigning it to directly mute it would be fine!
Great videos very informative , could you tell how to separate cues for playback , ie i build say 10 cues and put them in a page or cue list now whenever I press play in the cues player then stop then play again it start from the first cue and won’t continue from where it was stoped, also want to trigger them from my ipad which is connected with midimitter. I have tried to attach individual midi to each cue but if the cues are in a list it effects all the cues the same, any help would be appreciated
When I create a cue and hit return, the contents/options/modifiers panel doesn't pop up. Am I missing something?
Sorry about that! There have been several updates and ui changes since I posted these. Try right clicking on the cue and hitting options
So I’m trying this on session mode and the iac driver seems to decide to stop working at random. (I know arrangement mode allows for more flexibility but session mode fits my operators skill level)
What leads you to believe it’s the IAC? Is the button just randomly failing?
I figured it out! Turns out being sick doesn’t help with trying to figure out small details lol. IAC is fine. I was working in the wrong order (assigning the note before applying the envelope). The reason I thought the IAC was acting funny was because it would no longer assign the note/cc at random.
IMPORTANT! Something I didn't mention in the video is that the timecode audio track tends to get imported into Ableton with warp enabled by default. Timecode tracks CAN'T be warped or they don't work correctly. If you are experiencing issues with your timecode, be absolutely sure the Warp button is turned OFF for the timecode track! For anyone experiencing issues with the dreaded orange dot that appears on your screen any time your Mac has an audio input, use this utility to make it go away! github.com/cormiertyshawn895/RecordingIndicatorUtility
export project please
Hey bro! thank you for this video! Literally been trying to figure this out for the last 3-4 months lol. You mentioned you had a template I could get from you with it already programmed? Let me know if I can get that from you! Thank you!
I've been learning a lot from your videos thank you! Question! How do you make those song files in the live view on the bottom of the screen? (Ex Lion and The Lamb, Living Hope etc.). That's exactly what I want to do and then add the cues for the song, but I can't figure out how to add individual songs and then add the cues underneath like you have. Thank you!
Next to the live tab there is a little arrow that opens a drop down menu. This is where you can select different control panels and cue lists. I added a cue list just for my songs, and for each song I created a folder under that playlist, and put all my cues in that folder. So whenever I wanna program a new song I right click in the cue list and hit “new folder” and just build all my cues in that folder. When it’s time to do that song on Sunday I copy it over to my Sunday cue list
@@Quiksilver6565 Amazing thank you so much! I really, really appreciate your help!
Thanks. I've screwed so much up using Ad Hoc, not knowing what it was.
I've been trying to do this for literally years! Thank you so much for posting this video. I was able to place the note assigned to the master volume in it's own clip and assigned it to a Keith McMillen Softstep 2. Now I just step on one of the pads to activate it. Awesome!
Can this method be used to fade out lights from LightKey?
Is there a way to add a cue that only changes one light at a time without resetting the other? For example: I have four lights in a row, and three of them are doing a waterfall effect, and I need the fourth one to change to solid yellow, but when I go to the next cue it will noticeably restart the waterfall effect on the first three lights. Is there a way to let them keep doing their thing uninterrupted while other lights change up?
"As drummers do"? As a drummer, I'm offended Jeremy! lol
Just sayin’ I never had to turn on the Bass track for a sound check. There’s a clear pattern 🤣
Anybody make this work using a Push 2 controller!!!?
MAN I figured it out. What a trip. Thanks Jeremy for getting me most of the way there!! Anyone trying to MIDI map the fade this way to the Push 2 controller needs to "Uncheck" the "Out: IAC Driver *whatever you named it" and it will work. Then just MIDI map it to a USER button on your Push controller. Tonight, I am Victorious!!
honestly bro the button just wouldnt work for me at all. It wouldnt stop my tracks in the first place for some reason. Can you help?
Fanning and keyboard shortcuts on light key. Video would probably rank better with this title
Thank you so much- this is incredible
I don't know why, but this is not working for me. =( I've tried it multiple times the way you said
How do you attach each scene to the parts of an MP3 that is playing. I know with using something like Ableton you can use cues within Ableton, but I am just playing MP3s. How do I get it to time perfectly with the playing MP3 each time?
Unfortunately there is no built in feature to do this reliably. You would need some kind of external program like Ableton or Cue-lab to trigger things and keep them in sync. We have volunteers that run our cues live most of the time, and only automate when needed
Light key isn't legitimate software for anything advanced. Switch over to something legitimate like ETC Eos or a hog or MA r something. If the main webpage for your light software has a banner that says, "Professional Lighting Software", odds are, it isn't professional software. (It isn't.)
I’m actually pretty sure you could use garage band to accomplish this. GarageBand is free with every mac, so all you’d need to do is drop the mp3 on a track and create a midi track under that that plays midi notes when you want your cues to change. Same process as Ableton, but using built in software
@@Quiksilver6565 You can't say, "Record Cue 1 Enter Enter" though. I'm hating and basically trolling Lightkey because I started in theatre and just started working at a place that uses lightkey and the simple fact that you can't record a cue blows my friggin mind. So of course I'm working 13 hour days right now light designing my own stuff in eos, lol.
@@jordanhenshaw I started on an Ion and mostly work on Chamsys consoles these days, and I love them! It’s true that pro consoles have a ton more flexibility, but for 90% of users who just need to turn lights on and make them look good, it’s not bad. When I came up in the industry, the only low cost options in lighting were horrid things like the obey 70. Light key kind of changed the game for budget rigs, and brought revolutionary features like *fading between scenes!* (for real, there was no fade option on anything below 500 bucks back in the day) The command line is fantastic when you learn how to use it, but a lot of people operate better under the “point and click” method.
THANK YOU! This is exactly what i was looking for. We were struggling to have seamless fades until now. You the man!
Dear Jeremy, THANK YOUUU!!!! We love u!
Bro congrats. My 2016 Yamaha are six was flooded during the hurricane Ian. And I’m taking it hopefully to resurrect it as well
Replace the gas, Drain the oil, refill it, and drain it until it stops spitting out tan crap, and pull your plugs and turn the engine over to shoot the water out of the combustion chamber.
