    First of all the new hairstyle looks fabulous! It suits you super well and you look very ethereal. Love it! Secondly I also deleted instagram of my phone, because of the specific trend in reels (and I guess TikTok’s too but I never had a TikTok account and I never will) where people will be saying “Oh look at how hideously I used to dress” and the outfits are fine, since they were mostly trends from a couple of years ago. As someone who wears skater skirts like 14 years after they were popular very regularly because I think they are comfortable and fit my body wonderfully, I usually actually like the outfits shown in those “horrible” old outfits. But then I gave them the benefit of the doubt and I looked up their current style because I would think to myself “oh maybe they mean, they hadn’t found themselves yet, maybe their style did improve” and everytime without fail I’d go to their profile and their current outfits are just trends again. That made me so angry. I mean let people wear what they want, I know, but what value does that add? You’re essentially just saying “Look at me, I know I did wrong but I am also unwilling to improve”. I decided that this is nothing to be angry about anymore and deleted instagram. Honestly that never was a source of inspiration anyway. I like Pinterest coz I feel like I can search more specific things so I’ll sporadically go on there. I also recently started doubting my skater skirts, because of all that outdated trend talk and that makes me even angrier. I don’t seek anybody’s approval but it does affect you subconsciously, you know? Anyway all that just to say: I too crave the old internet. Everything was a bit slower and consumerism was bad but not this bad. Your content gives me hope though!

    The biggest surprise was how good the split harmony outfit looked on you! I would never have mixed these colours and yet it was really cute! This was a very interesting video. I learnt a lot! Such as 'monochrome' doesn't have to mean black and white, and also the difference between tint, shade and tone, and also how they should not be confused with pastels due to the saturation. I was listening! :) Thanks for this! I shall be applying this to my outfit planning. Another great video!

    I am packing my things now to move from Kazakhstan to the US for Masters, and your video was a perfect watch while I was deciding if I actually need that tight but gorgeous but makes-me-insecure mermaid skirt. Just in the last two years I have accumulated so many clothes (my family’s + thrifted + bought), and experimenting so much because of social media but also the pressure to use the most of what I get (especially my mom’s and sister’s old things) has completely blurred my understanding of what I like. I have already given up one third of my things when I was moving home from college, and detoxing from fashion trends this summer (just a coincidence because I got busy, not a conscious choice in my case) has shown me that I still own too much… It’s also kind of hard to choose because I keep thinking of how I want to appear in front of so many new people, but your video reminded me to shift the focus from that to how I feel about myself and when I feel the best. Thank you!

    • @jemi_
      @jemi_ 7 дней назад

      Congrats for the new life chapter! 😊Hand-me-downs are such a blessing and a curse, I remember having that trouble too when my mom and sister started giving me their old clothes. If there's anything I've learned about living in the US the last 5 years, it's that especially in smaller towns, fashion tends to be kind of an optional and individualistic thing in comparison to the expectations in European countries (so if your University isn't, say, in NYC or LA, you can get away with much less formal attire). It's nice, because it has allowed me to express my own style in a safe space, but every time I go back to Finland to see family, I get stared at for what I wear haha. 😅I made a video on fashion comparisons between European countries and the US, so maybe it can help you see what things are like on our end here and prepare accordingly: ruclips.net/video/QrnkD14w6Lw/видео.html But yes, probably best to leave the uncomfortable stuff behind, I brought waaaay too many clothes with me when I first moved here!

    Ah yes, the clothes not fitting :,) almost all of my shorts are too small on me now, and my main pair of jeans stopped fitting me last winter. It is a STRUGGLE and it's made me a true believer in stretchy waistbands and drawstrings! I hardly wear my jeans because my weight fluctuates a lot and so half of the year they're uncomfortable, but if you ever need shorts/pants that have a drawstring in them to help with weight fluctuation, I recommend the ones from uniqlo's mens section 😊A lot of my pants are from uniqlo. But also, comfort over looking pretty, nothing sucks more than being super uncomfy in public.

  • @Ashleybmakingvideos
    @Ashleybmakingvideos 8 дней назад

    I love me a cute outfit, but the lack of sustainability takes the fun out of it for me. That’s why I love thrifting.. I did find that thrifting made it easier to have too many clothes, and that desire to own less combined with a lack of money, forced me to work with the clothes I already owned. I *love* dressing up, but I will *not* sacrifice comfort for a “look”. My outfits are either straight up pajamas, or a super cute but super comfy outfit.

    • @jemi_
      @jemi_ 8 дней назад

      100% agree with you! It's especially annoying when you know that whatever "higher quality" store you go into also makes their clothes in China. It's very rarely that I see the tags showing anything else, and the clothes are overpriced and produced unethically (most likely). What's helped me with not thrifting too much (aside from not being able to afford much these days) is literally just thinking about how many clothes I already have.😅 My one weakness is fancy dresses and blazers - I really struggle not buying them all and I have to have a whole debate with myself before/if I buy them. And yes, 100% agree on dressing up without feeling uncomfy - I'm tired of justifying poorly fitting clothes in my wardrobe, I love feeling comfy and cute❤

      Thank you! I thought about doing it from a health aspect too, but honestly social media affects us far beyond that, all the way to we style ourselves or how we behave (and much more that even I'm not aware of, I'm sure). It's funny how fashion is simultaneously superficial and incredibly deep, especially when it comes to how we represent ourselves and why we dress the way we do! 😮

  • @CreoTan
    @CreoTan 8 дней назад

    Yes!! This comment would prob be more fitting on the trend v personal style vid, but I haven't seen that one yet since this is my first vid of yours! But I was talking with a friend who's into scene culture, and we both agreed that a huge part of why gatekeepers are running rampant in young/new gens of alt subcultures is because of trend-based buying. Traditionally, a scene, alt, punk, etc wardrobe would be built up over years of collecting pieces, and learning to mix and match them. But if you're buying everything in bulk, and specifically modeling what you're buying off of other people's outfits, you won't be able to truly _know_ your wardrobe or understand how the individual pieces can work together and be used. It really feels like the same concept to how you described feeling like you now have too many clothes! And how youre using your clothes in new ways! It's overall a better relationship to building a wardrobe. It feels like when you've got a cartoon and one character genuinely loves a hobby and started from the ground up to work at it, and another character is the rich and shallow one who gets all the best equipment and trainers and diamond encrusted gold clubs bought for them from the beginning but can't understand why they're not having fun like the first character. To the latter type: are you doing this for you, or are you doing this because you want to be as happy, confident, and fulfilled as the other people you're emulating?

    • @jemi_
      @jemi_ 8 дней назад

      Thank you so much for this insightful comment! ❤ I have a few alt friends, and I noticed they definitely took their time curating specific pieces to match their wardrobe (especially since some of the pieces can be on the more expensive side), which I think is on the whole a great thing, because it gives them the time and space to think about which pieces work best for them. And regarding trend-based buying, I also know of some services online that essentially provide their customer with outfits selected based on the customer's chosen "aesthetic/vibe", and I feel like while that service can be cool and hassle-free for some, it's like you said, it prevents people from knowing what their true personal style would be. I think all-in-all, shopping has been made too convenient, where we struggle resisting instant-temporary-satisfaction type purchases, and so we often don't stop to think about whether or not we're buying for US or because somebody TOLD US we needed to buy it. I've had to stop myself many times from buying things/clothes I didn't need as direct aftermath of being influenced into getting them. And I 100% agree, that slowly working on your style (or whatever it is you're working on in life) and putting in the effort to make your wardrobe truly feel like it's yours is an-almost-lost art. Even with content creation, I started making my videos with terrible equipment and was so camera-shy, and I love looking back and seeing how this craft has evolved and how I've created a style uniquely mine.

    Good timing :,) I was thinking of 'starting' over my social media. But first to just let it go for a while. I have nothing to do with fashion, i'm just a digital artist, but I feel like i never developed a voice because I always got influenced by what other artists are doing online. And I do have my own specific interests in what to draw, but I never spend much time with it, because I know it doesn't really do well on social media. So yeah. I just take a break now and draw what I like for a bit without the thought of "i have to show this to somebody" in my head all the time.

    • @jemi_
      @jemi_ 8 дней назад

      Thank you for taking the time to comment and share your thoughts! Social media is so rough for digital artists right now from what I've been seeing, especially since AI is stealing so much art and taking over 😞 I hope you can focus on doing what you love, and finding joy in the art you draw - it's easy to get sucked into slaving for the algorithm, but I've had to learn the hard way that if I don't love and value my own work, it's not worth it, whether or not social media pushes it out or not. If you love the art you're making, it's enough - social media doesn't choose "the best", people just get lucky, pay their way in, or work to eventually receive recognition, but whether or not you have that recognition doesn't make your art any lesser ❤ So enjoy this moment of rest & I hope you can find your own unique style soon 💗

    Love the idea about a video of exploring how childhood interests influence personal style! Glad to hear your time away from social media was so relaxing for you and improved your health too! Much like the idea of "the secret room" in interior design, I think it makes sense that removing the external influences and pressures, allowed space for you to really tune into what you needed/brought you joy. As well as give you better insights about what really matters to you in the long run, such as your personal health or your priority for comfort first. Your body is truly your first "forever home" and in being so, it should become a place where you can feel safe to actually relax. ❤

    Social Media is a tool for Capitalism, it maskes us what to get something over the fear that we are missing out, that we are uncool and don't fit in. Everyone is always trying to selling something, it's about sell, sell, sell. Style doen's change much and at some point what is out today may be in tomorow and vice-versa, fashion is cyclical it goes round and round, sometimes it overlaps other times it opposite. I like a multitude of styles, I like to experiment and use stuff that aren't sometimes in my confort zone, but even with that I have some confortable styles for every day use. Personal style is what you like to wear, what you feel confortable wearing and what you think looks good on you, it's about you and no one else. Also you look amazing and the hairstyle suits you a lot

      100% agree about how social media is used only for making profit (which doesn't always have to be a bad thing if you provide something educational or beneficial to society, but often it's to just sell more products and services)! Personal style is so valuable, it helps us express ourselves and it's unique to each person 💕 Sounds like you have a good system going for your in terms of style, I love to hear it 🥰 And thank you, I was nervous to cut the bangs, but glad I did it!

    Social media is a stronger weapon for capitalism than we expected. I never felt the need to buy so many things 10 years ago. When I limit my screen time I always get better from a depressive state. Your hair looks gorgeous btw! 😍

      I know right! It's exhausting when everything is about selling and making profit. I'm hoping to keep finding ways to limit my screen time even when I do research for trends etc :) And thank you, it was kind of a last minute decision, but I'm glad I did it! 🥹❤

    This video is absolutely superb 🤌 Not only did you make an excellent style analysis of Golightly's wardrobe and costuming, but also touched on the cultural significance and influence of Hepburn's onscreen presence. Plus your outfits towards the end embody Golightly's aesthetic and ethos while also being expressive of your personal tastes as well.

    The video is really beautifully done! I too was teen who loved to watch Audrey Hepburn movies and read a couple of biographies. It is amazing how this movie is still referenced so often

      @jemi_ 16 дней назад

      Thank you so much! ❤ It's crazy how so many forms of media have referenced this movie (didn't include most for copyright reasons tho haha) and how it still continues to be a stand-alone source of inspiration. Like how we eventually literally got a cafe at Tiffany's so you can quite literally "have breakfast at Tiffany's" haha.

    Thank you for this wonderful video! I love all the outfits you created, I'm not someone who is drawn to highly saturated colours for my wardrobe, I'm more of a muted colour person but do love colours, so your outfits were wonderful inspo for me!

      You're welcome, thank you for watching! 💕I'm not into very maximalist colorful outfits either (which is why I struggled styling all the color palettes in the end haha), but I think these concepts of certain color combinations help spark inspiration when we feel stuck!

    when I'm bloated I love to wear overalls!! (I usually like to wear them but they're a lifesaver when the bloat is unbearable). Long skirts with non-tight elastic, pants with an adjustable waist, loose fitting dresses - as long as I don't feel it around my stomach, it's good. Great vid!

      Thank you! 💞 Haha, I don't blame you, it can be tough to struggle with IBS especially in the day-to-day work/school environment. And don't even get me started on people mistaking IBS bloating for pregnancy, MORTIFYING 😭I wish it didn't exist, but alas, all the women in my family have it 🥲
