    Sometimes customers just want to get that lamp and get out without having to be interrogated for 15mins though... how do you know when to push and when to just let them be?

  • @linuspears
    @linuspears День назад

    I used to be a retail salesperson and once saw a customer ask a colleague (someone who thought he was a weapon at sales) where to find a travel adapter. Because the item was cheap, he just pointed and said "on the back wall". Another sales person seen the poor service and walked the customer over to the section and took the time to find out where the customer was going and why, who was going with them etc. They built rapport over the destination and because of the trust that was built the customer admitted they actually needed 2 computers, 2 phones and accessories but usually would purchase from another retailer, but was so happy with the salespersons interest and desire to solve their problems they became a regular that wouldn't shop anywhere else or be served by anyone else. That's the power of one interaction!

    Do you think salespeople are trained to lie, or does it happen because of pressure to meet quotas?

    • @chrisdroberts
      @chrisdroberts День назад

      I do not think so. I think there are good well trained professionals that do not lie. I do think there is pressure on sales people to meet goals in general. I feel as customers we should work with sales people and share things with them so they can help us solve our problems. When we speak to buy we are looking for solutions to problems. Good sales people know that and are good at solving those problems . Most people won’t lie because they don’t wanna get caught. I just think sometimes when a sales person doesn’t take the time they can slip up or say things maybe that they think to be true but may actually not be.

    What’s your advice for dealing with overly pushy salespeople who won’t take no for an answer?

    • @chrisdroberts
      @chrisdroberts День назад

      @officialsefrey The buyer is in control, but many don’t realize it. Go back to what’s most important to you, and if they’re not providing a solution to that problem, simply ask for a different salesperson or a manager - or politely thank them and leave. You’d be shocked at the differences between store processes, salespeople, their training, attitudes, and even how things are done differently across states. You get what you want by clearly understanding the problem they need to solve for you.

    Getting a good understanding of your customer and how your product is going to fit into their lives is often times undervalued. I've seen salespeople ask 3 questions or less before they start talking about a product. Hopeless, the likelihood of you getting the product right after such poor qualifying is so low and just ends up in almost impossible objection handling that should've been avoided and rarely a sale.

    When you are living in the headspace of someone you aspire to be, it seems like there's a fair bit of imagination needed. Is the technique one of extrapolating from the things you know of that person and then using that to inform how you think they would act in the situations that you cannot know?

    • @chrisdroberts
      @chrisdroberts 2 дня назад

      The headspace comment was more about reframing the way you see yourself and blocking out how we can sometimes have imposter syndrome or feel down because others have more than we have or perhaps make you feel like you’re less than. I do encourage people, though to work hard to mimic those they inspire to be like and in your words, try to extrapolate some of the skill sets that they exhibit as your own . There are many people around us doing extra extraordinary things that we don’t notice and they make a difference .

    How does a recruiter see my amazing attitude and enthusiasm when I'm out the back flipp'n hamburgers?

    • @chrisdroberts
      @chrisdroberts 4 дня назад

      Well, that’s a good question. Are you working with recruiters while you’re flipping burgers because I’ve never heard that before? Recruiters are gatekeepers hired by corporations to hire people and answer your question directly the only way to allow a recruiter if you’re selected to interview or send a résumé is to have a good attitude, smile, and be articulate when you answer questions . The idea in general is to know a bit about the company you’re interviewing for and try to present ways that you want to add value and help that company . If you can display a true desire to put in the work while bringing a good ideas that can help accompany grow you may have a leg up . While education and experience is important, recruiters often will give their suggestions on who they feel might be the strongest candidates and this is where your attitude, energy, enthusiasm and articulation can give you an edge.

    I disagree with one thing: Not every customer wants to be questioned. Some just want to get in and out. How do you handle that?

    • @chrisdroberts
      @chrisdroberts 6 дней назад

      @donald-hamilton I agree, and you will not always get what you want as a salesperson, but if you have a process, like a standard greeting, you will get much further. Example: "Welcome in! If you give me just 5 minutes to tell you about our store, I’ll give you the space to look around and take it all in." End with a joke like "other wise I will chase you around the store like one thoes crazy people, an no one wants that" Then, take those 5 minutes to articulate your best pitch, protection plans, financing, specials, where things are in teh stor and such. Most of the time, customers will open up, giving you an opportunity to guide them to something they’re looking for. A simple explanation here, but it works.

      Unfortunately, it's mandatory to get uncomfortable in order to get comfortable. David Goggins has a great book called You Can't Hurt Me. He is the definition of this. Taking the first step is the hardest-just start talking to people. A good way to break your fear is by joining Zoom groups about topics you like. Then, take it into the person-to-person space. I made many mistakes when I first started, and now I speak in front of thousands of people at a time. Chris Anderson has a great book about TED talks as well that can help with speaking in front of people.

    • @chrisdroberts
      @chrisdroberts 9 дней назад

      She was not specific and has no solid data to back up her claim, which is common on talk shows. Regardless of the price increase in the grocery case, the margins for grocery stores are still very low. So much so that the government, which takes all of our taxes, gives some of them to these very same grocery stores to keep them in business. In severe inflationary periods, almost everything goes up. I would just suggest not being so selective with judgment and backing it up with very clear data to prove the statement. In my opinion, anything less is just irresponsible. Groceries have not gone up three to four times as a whole. Here is a great article on the grocery inflation rate of 28% over the last 5 years: www.nerdwallet.com/article/finance/price-of-food.
