Great video as always! One way we avoid burnout is to "keep it human". While out sourcing books, we take the time to chat with others, maybe other booksellers, or an elderly person who needs help getting a book from the top shelf, or a Mom with young children who needs help bringing a box out to her car, or a thrift shop clerk who looks frazzled. We try to always be kind and remember that, yes, it is a job for us, but that we aren't machines grabbing and selling books - we are people doing a mostly fun, very cool job where we get to meet many nice people. And when really stressed, we watch one of Shane's videos!! :)

I can feel a touch of burnout sometimes when I'm sourcing and people are getting aggressive or there are lots of other book buyers or prices are high or the sellers checked ebay for pricing every single item. It knocks the wind out of my sails and makes it no fun. My solution has been to note which estate sale companies I dislike and I avoid those categorically. I also try to go to estate sales that are in less desirable parts of town as there is often less buyer pressure there and still treasures to be found. At garage sales, I ask if they have books for sale and sometimes, pretty rarely, they bring out books that were inside, or they let me in to look at books that they did not have outside at their sale.

I love these sales too but the books i get from the library are smothered in stickers, it's a bummer. It can take hour after hour to try to remove them. Congrats on your haul :)

Everyone that works at my post office are no good lazy grouchy good for nothing pricks that get pissed off any time you ask the smallest question or for them to do anything that they're there to do

It is really hard to MANAGE the day but really easy to FILL the day. You are right when you say that tele-work did that. I've been reselling full-time for a year (brick and mortar store) but on eBay for 6 months seriously and consistently. Finding stuff is so fun, putting your knowledge to work... listing requires more effort in my opinion. Getting to the burn out part, my death pile is huge and makes me anxious, sales not going fast (near 500 items in the store), rent and other bills coming in. I'm burnt out but I can't take a break. It's the hustle. Can't stan Dolly Parton's 9-to-5 anymore lol

I get extremely frustrated when Ebay throttles my sales to zero for couple days, after using the 50% refund on a fraudulent return. Ebay is like the worst pimp in the world, with billboards telling johns that it's open season on whores.

Welcome back, Shane! :) I always seem to lose a bit of enthusiasm for selling in the summer, when sales slow down. I just remind myself that sales will pick up again in the fall, as they always do. But, I think setting selling boundaries is important, as you suggested. It's hard though, for instance, when an offer comes in at midnight, just to ignore it! I'm curious - did Belgium have any thrift stores?

Shane, I'm kind of at the opposite end of the financial spectrum - I'm selling part-time on eBay to supplement my "bare existence" retirement - and let me tell you, lately I've experienced seller burn out from a different perspective. I've been on foot for much of the past year, because my vehicle's transmission went out, and I couldn't afford $2,000-$3,000 to get it replaced. (Funny side story: in desperation, I finally contacted my sister and brother-in-law, as they repair their own vehicles. They agreed to drive 3-1/2 hours to stay a few days with me and repair my transmission instead of replacing it. While they were here, their transmission went out!) Anyway, with me living in a tiny town, being on foot, and the nearest thrift stores 30-45 min away in any direction, I've been forced to list items I'd previously gotten from clean-out jobs. So it's been mostly "all work and no sourcing fun" for me. I didn't realize how stressful it could be. A friend finally took me to a few yard sales in another town, so I could "get out of Dodge." Lol.

If I had burnout in Belgium, I would find a local used book store and just browse, knowing it cost a lot to ship back to the USA, looking at all of the books, and just enjoy them.

Some of the local estate sale auctions have been trying to match their prices to what the resellers, themselves, would sell them at. This is ridiculous because the sales are only for a few days, and most of the customers showing up are resellers. Nothing moves, and then it all just ends up in a landfill or someone's store. It's a waste of time to even go. At the thrift stores, my mom has received pushback, but only from other resellers. lol Without resellers, the products won't move. One place had literally thousands of dog toys. No way were those things ever going to sell in that store's lifetime.

I was already somewhat aware of it, but it does break my brain that the books I'm least interested in are the ones that are actually the best to sell. lol

How much time investment would you say you put in as a part timer

Vintage firearms can be really good as well. I just sold a Winchester Rifle book for $140 that I paid a buck for. Make sure to look them up though, some are not worth buying, others are quite profitable.

I do pretty well with local history books, sometimes they take a little while to sell, but you usually are not competing with a hundred other people selling the same book. The biggest turn off for me are the words " Best Seller". That tells me they were heavily promoted for a time and lot were sold but now there is no promotion, no one is looking for it and there is a huge supply a available. See law of supply & demand.

Gate agent: Hmm, your large checked bag only weighs a few pounds. Me: Oh it'll be exactly 50 pounds on the return trip...

I'm coming from 4 years as a clothing reseller and most everything you said directly correlates with the grind of selling clothing as well. I'm moving into selling books as well as clothes so I'm searching for people who know more about this than I do.

Suggestion - when you hold the book up for us to see, hold it steady and still for a while so we can adjust to look at it. In this video you flash the book at us, then turn it around or over, or back to you, then back to us - it's too hard to follow! Thanks for the great videos!

So frustrating, I am a beginner--completely--and you quickly say "You just go down to myebay, mysellerhub".... yet, I did not see My Seller Hub on your screen at all, nor did I see what you clicked on. If you are making a 'beginner' video, treat it as such.... Just a suggestion for you going forward.

Price changing is so annoying and I've been there. It's against the law to "Bait and Switch" in my state. I would have teased her on that one and see how they react.

What scanner do you use

I've never understood pricing books like they're a volume commodity . I get estate sales need to quickly price a whole life's accumulation in a rough and ready manner, but it's a book not a bushel of corn. I've seen $5 books priced at twice their retail value simply because they were large and heavy, meanwhile the truly valuable books slumber on the shelves.

Some estate sale company's don't do the family's of the estate or them self's justice when they ask full blown Ebay prices. If that was the last day of the sale that house should be empty. It looked like the 1st day of the sale. Hope you make out on that big score. Let us know. 👍✌️

I love estate sales for finding books, assuming the house doesn't smell like smoke and they don't overprice stuff. I have found those squadron/signal books before for super cheap. One huge BOLO area I tend to look for: hidden signed nonfiction. If it's a celebrity memoir or older notable nonfiction author and the book looks to be in decent shape on the shelf I take the 5 seconds to pull it out and flip through the title page to check for an autograph. Certain estate sale companies (and customers!) oftentimes don't look through every book for this kind of stuff, and I have found some treasures that way.

That was a dandy sale. I have a ton on WWII US, German & Japanese. Also, Revolutionary War, Civil War, architecture etc.

Scoutly Fair Value is $2580 on the lynching book. You hit a nice little jackpot on that one! Congratz!!

I've sold a signed Peter max poster on ebay for $150 I paid $4 for that I found at my st. Vincent de Paul thrift store

I have found several items that I knew would be of value to an organization. I went online and found an organization, told them what i had and asked if they were insterested. If they said yes, I sent it to them and in return received a very nice thank you letter. I also came across an old box of wood pencil sharpeners in the shape of Mickey Mouse. Again, found a collector and sold him the items. $20.00 for a ,25 cent purchase.

Nice finds ! Try Ronsonol lighter fluid on the sticker, does not leave any residue or stain and the sticker will come right off. I keep a bottle at my desk and use regularly for just that problem. Natchitoches is pronounced Nac-o-tish (Louisiana, they say everything different over there)

Speaking of electromagnetism. Look up Albert Crehore. I found a box of books at a dumpster where I live. Majority were commons. However, the 4 Crehore ones are listed combined ~$500. Crehore was a local scientist / /physicist / inventor from Cleveland. Look up Crehore Sundial.

I am a child of the 60’s-70’s - Peter Max was on my school folders, notebooks, and spiral binders! I have framed art in my home currently. Amazing artist!!!
