    $1 into $50 is a bet I will make every day. The beauty of DVDs on Amazon is that they don't take up a lot of space, so low FBA storage fees and lowish fulfillment fees when they sell.

    I always appreciate when you talk about categories of books, like engineering. I found a collection of those types of books last year and looked them up based on your advice. They’ve moved slow but I just sold one for $50 the other day, so no complaints! Also, on signed books, I’m more apt to trust they are real when I find them in the wild. I don’t know why someone would fake a signature and then sell the book for pennies on the dollar. I also try to compare it to comps online too, but I’ve never really thought about getting them authenticated.

      Slow movers feel ok when they sell in that $50 range. Congrats!

      Got a box of 20ish 1930s farm equipment maintenance books years ago for $10.
      Some were very well used, some NM. Majority were ~$30-40. There's 1 that always gets views and I send offers out a lot. Tera shows that edition sells for $150-190 with 64 sales in 3 years and lowest was $120. 90D solds shows sales for $130+ Mine is near mint and listed at $150. Lowballz like crazy for $40-60. I block those ebayers.

    Provenance, from the French - meaning origin. I tease, of course. I sell many signed books (under $300) and never bother with sending away for an authentication (JSA or other). Examining other signed examples on the market currently and, I suggest, Auction Companies, such as Heritage Auctions will give you plenty of exemplars to make an educated decision. This is basically all they do as well. Of course, always be certain it is a genuine signature and not a facsimile signature. Many authors used facsimile signatures (W. Somerset Maughan is a good example). I see many sellers list his works as being signed in error.
    If I were to come across a signed or autographed work that consistently sells for $300+, I would consider sending it off to JSA for a COA. Or if I have many interested buyers inquiring if it has a COA. At $500+, it is probably a good idea.
    Great find and best of luck.

    Great stuff as always Shane. Wonderful DVD finds for me lately as well. Love the Bear book; I always open up sports biographies and autobiographies looking for inscriptions.
    And yes Shogun is really good. If you have Apple + TV , Manhunt” that dropped last night about tracking down John Wilkes Booth is great.

    18:36 That's right! Planagenet. If you're in France or other parts of Europe, it's Plan-ta-ge-nay. But either way is right.

    Your other video about a "honeyhole". I commented that the one I went to doesn't do media anymore. So yesterday, I went on my short-south (long south is driving an hour to Akron then heading north Rt 8) run I do once every few months. Mentor to Randall, then 3 other goodwills up to Mayfield ~25 miles total. Construction detour led me to a secondhand store. All media is .50c. Though there wasnt much, maybe 300 items, I still walked out with ~30 items.
    As for $20 for $100+ sale... I'll do that. Something that high priced, I need to NET double at minimum. I usually do a 1:10 ratio up to $30 total. If it cost $1 and sells for a total for $10-12ish, AND sells fast, no prob. That is few and far between though. Gotta leave some stuff for the nickle and diming resellers :D

    Is it ever hard to sell some of the stuff? For me, once I get something, even if its a $100 book I got for $1, I dont want to let go of it, even though I know its irrational.

    How can I make a media mail flat rate shipping policy? (this is the only area I’ve sold the most items in and the shipping is almost always an amount I know)

    • @helpfulcommenter
      @helpfulcommenter 7 месяцев назад +1

      Are you talking about Ebay?
      You can set it up in Business Policies, or even easier, set up Templates that have your flat rate shipping built in and when you list you just create the listing off the appropriate template (and then if you're doing a bunch of books that would ship at the same rate, say 20 paperbacks in a row,) you just "Sell Similar" one after the other.

    Maybe I’m wrong but I always thought “signed” meant it has the autograph but “inscribed” meant it has something extra, a note or greeting from the author (usually to the person who is getting the autograph)
