Down Your Way - Classic Theme Tune and Continuity - BBC Light Programme 1964
Down Your Way was a long-running Sunday afternoon BBC radio programme that travelled from town to town the length and breadth of the UK to meet regular people and to play their musical requests.
It ran from 1946 to1992 and famous presenters from different eras included David Dimbleby, Franklin Engelmann and Brian Johnston.
The programme switched between the BBC Light Programme and the Home Service and then in its later decades it was broadcast on Radio 4.
Down Your Way's evocative theme tune was 'Horse Guards, Whitehall' from the London Landmarks Suite by Haydn Wood.
Strange but true: Franklin Engelmann was an NBC presenter before he joined the BBC in 1940. In 1955 he was the first presenter ...

Here's a very young pre-Radio 1 Tony Blackburn on Radio Caroline together with Mike Allen, plus a number of well known Radio Caroline jingles. Tony Blackburn's first disc-jockeying job was on 199 Radio Caroline in 1964 broadcasting off the coast from Frinton on Sea Essex. Saturday Club - Theme Tune & Brian Matthew's Intro - BBC Light Programme - 1957-69
Просмотров 8518 месяцев назад
Saturday Club was one of only a small handful of pop music programmes on BBC radio prior to the start of Radio 1 in 1967. First broadcast as a one hour show called Saturday Skiffle Club on the BBC Light Programme in June 1957, it was presented by Brian Matthew who up to that point had been a newsreader. In October 1958 the appeal of the show was widened beyond the narrow confines of Skiffle and...
Desert Island Discs - 1964's alternative theme tune - BBC Home Service

Desert Island Discs was the brainchild of Roy Plomley and it has been a fixture on the wireless in Britain since 1942. A programme that's as familiar and comfortable to generations of Brits as an old pair of slippers. The BBC wouldn't mess with such a beloved national treasure, would they? Oh yes - of course they would! In 1964 that oh-so-familiar intro was changed. Gone were the gentle waves ....

Weavers Green - the 1966 ITV soap that lasted for only one season of 49 episodes (which is probably why it's a largely forgotten series). Location shooting was conducted primarily in Heydon, Norfolk - deep ...

The Sky's The Limit was the only way somebody could earn free Air Miles back in the 1970s! For decades on Saturday afternoons in Britain the only viewing choice was BBC1's Grandstand or ITV's World of Sport. I distinctly remember this series of broadcasts even though I was only 10 - 11. One episode urged you to help get the old coins out of circulation quicker by telling you to "Give more, get change" also sung by the Scaffold. In the run-up to 15 Feb 1971 we also listened to "The Penny Programme" at school on Radio 4, which was essentially a radio version of this aimed at kids It was presented by Stuart Henry and Peter Pacey.

By far one of the best tv themes EVER written, as good as any James Bond theme, it was the kind of song that did it's job in pulling in your interest in the tv series itself (which wasnt the best Spy thriller series, not compared to say...THE PUERSUADERS) & others, powerfully sung by Tony Christie, the kind of voice needed for this type of music.
