We had some brilliant presenters on this programme. Brian Cant, Rick Jones, Floella Benjamin, Stuart McGugan, Diane Dorgan, Chloe Ashcroft, Toni Arthur, Derek Griffiths, Johnny Ball, Carole Ward, Eric Thompson, Phyllida Law, Sarah Long, David Hargreaves, Julie Stevens, Carol Chell, Fred Harris, Lionel Morton, Carol Leader and Don Spencer are just a selection of a cast of 104 presenters. Do any of these names ring any bells to anyone?
Yes! All of them! My uncles and my dad were lucky enough to be raised with all those people. Johnny Silvo, Gordon Rollings, Jon Glover, Carmen Munroe, Sheelagh Gilbey, Gordon Clyde, Virginia Stride, Paul Danquah, Ann Morrish, Chris Tranchell, Valerie Pitts, Ben Bazell and Ben Thomas are more examples of excellent presenters from "Play School".
This is so surreal looking back. My dad used to watch Play School throughout the 1970s, but that was when the show became a bit more sophisticated with what it was doing. The house looks so bizarre hand-drawn, and if you look at some snippets with Gordon Rollings and Virginia Stride, it was pretty obvious that they themselves were just getting used to the whole idea.
@@LostsTVandRadio It definitely didn't take long before it got more sophisticated, I mean it only took a few weeks to get rather well known presenters like Brian Cant, Julie Stevens and Eric Thompson on the programme.
Play School as the first programme which aired on BBC2 but was not meant to be. A fault with the programming caused I believe by a lightning strike meant the original programme scheduled was cancelled and Play School went out first. Meaning Gordon Rollings & Virginia Wade we’re the first presenters on BBC2😊
@@JustinRollings Oh. That's great! I thought you and him looked a bit similar. Was he still on the programme when you were born? Or were you born after he left the programme?

Happy late b-day BBC two (1964-2024)
Happy Birthday BBC Two
The original theme tune lasted two days short of ten years. Last used on 19th April 1974.
Thank you for that!

Yes the whole thing was very experimental in the 60s.

Yes, what a nightmare of a launch for BBC2!
I actually thought you were related to Gordon Rollings for a minute, it's your surname. If you are, that's brilliant.
@@RandomGuy-qh7tl of course….he is/was my father
