Back in 2015, I had gotten my first ever 3DS with ACNL and Tomodachi Life. It was the original without Welcome Amiibo so I got to simply update it. Well, in April of this year, I modded my (new) 3DS with a new and bigger SD card, but I completely forgot about ACNL and how I forgot to install the update, so… that meant my town got corrupted… Rest in peace, OG save…

I had Wii mini which does not have internet connection or SD card. I wrote an email to Nintendo asking how can I fix my save file, and they straight up told me, that I'm SOL and have to start from beginning.

Skyward Sword Save Data Update Channel is my favorite Animal Crossing game.

The Wii probably stored lower quality sound files for soundfonts to save NAND space because of how little it had (512MB, to be exact). Soundfonts can be really large files sometimes! I can imagine Nintendo quite literally re-mixed the songs using the original midi files, but with the raw uncompressed samples, exposing detail you couldn't hear before in the original. A true testament to Nintendo's composers' attention to detail.

I'm going to guess they don't use the Extra data for two things: First, they want to confirm that you own the game, physically or digitally. Secondly, New Leaf Welcome Amiibo probably pulls data from the full game of Happy Home Designer for all of the models and such of all of the new catalog items you get with doing it. The Animal Crossing series is full of programming oddities like that, like on Doubutsu no Mori e-Plus where full brand new villagers are stored on e-Reader cards for the game, or in City Folk where Wii Connect 24 items you can get aren't actually on the Wii disc and are added to the game like DLC via the service. These two games even have a unique quirk because of these programming oddities, where you can add brand new custom villagers into Doubutsu no Mori e-Plus, and you can add custom items, clothes and tools into City Folk.
