For anyone who just wants the path to your badge data (including the badge box and placement of badges on the HOME Menu), here it is: *SD Card:\Nintendo 3DS\[ID0]\[ID1]\extdata\00000000\000014d1*. ID0 and ID1 are unique to your system, so you might have to dig around a little bit. If you're using a file explorer, you can also search for '000014d1'. For those who are thinking about using _Pretendo_ Network, swapping over will delete your badge box. Normally, you would be able to restore your badges by swapping back over to Nintendo Network and going to the Arcade, but that option is going away soon. Backing up your badges using the method in this video will preserve them though! After backing up badge data, there shouldn't be any worries swapping to Pretendo Network! The folder with badge data can be restored manually with a backup, even after shutdown, if you return to Nintendo Network.
Additionally, the badges are encrypted for your console's use only and will require CFW+effbee-eye (3DS) or Seedminer+ninfs (PC) to ensure they continue to work on another system if your current one breaks.
More info elsewhere (can't go into detail or my comment will get the Cillit Bang treatment again), but the latter way can work even if you lose your 3DS as long as you've ever friended another system or saved a Mii QR.

honestly with how many badges there are and how many are just meh. i'd rather just use custom badges. there's homebrew out there to mass generate badges from pngs/jpgs, and another one to create entire sets. and it'll be the only way you can change out the combinations you have. custom badges are a bit more creative imo, but there's also archives of the official badges if anyone is looking for them
This is one of the best things Nintendo ever created, and it is so sad it is going away. I only ended up with 897 badges, but I wanted so much more. Best of luck to ya'll getting your badges safe in hand before the servers go down. ❤❤
I hope the Pretendo Servers will make so you can still play this game with Homebrewed 3DS with, who knows? Maybe more badges that you can put on your modded 3DS, but... That might be a bit of a pipe dream.
They actually do plan to do this according to their Discord, but the badges will be custom ones to avoid copyright. I assume it will also no longer have any paid features (unless they want to get the Yuzu treatment).
I had to stop playing Badge Arcade after a few months because it developed a bug where it would tell me my SD card had insufficient space every time I started it up (the card had plenty of space). I considered uninstalling and reinstalling, but I was worried that I'd lose my existing badges if I did that. So I've just been stuck with the same bunch of badges ever since.
Thank you so much for the heads up! Im checking tomorrow to make sure mine are safe and ill try and copy the file to a computer if i can, would hate to lose all my pokemon and animal crossing icons! It would take away from my 2ds personality
To clarify I never spent any money but I worked so hard to get my favorite pokemon to display and I have soo many badges that become the icons such as my Isabelle shop icon it's super cute!
your badges should still be on the nintendo server. if you switch back to the nintendo server and run gytb, it will convert all your official badges to pngs. running gytb on pretendo's server afterwards, should let you use all your badges there too.
Too late for me, I haven't heard of Nintendo Badge Arcade until your video appeared on the feed. I wish I could go back in time to start collecting badges and such a shame when 3Ds online closes completely next month. I suppose those icons on Switch are similar to badges but need active NOS. I knew something was up when there no more themes for 3Ds. End of another era.
There's a program called "Allbadge Tool" you can use to download your own copies of all the official badges from Nintendo's servers from now until April 8th.

According to their Discord, this is what Pretendo Network eventually plans to do, only with custom badges, but I don't think there's an ETA yet on when (or if) that'll be ready.
Correct, whatever is on your HOME Menu is locally saved to your 3DS. I'd still recommend backing up the folder since it's simple to do and keeps the badges safe
Also, if you want to keep them even safer, either back up your system's essential.exefs in GodMode9 or copy out all contents of "Ext Save Data -> 000014d1 -> User Save Data" to anywhere on your SD card using FBI. (CFW required)
The app never worked well in my experience. Every time I’d open it, it would say the data is corrupt and it will restore the data. Which would set me up for a super long “restore” sequence every single time I opened this thing. I never had any issues before opening it, and after it restored, nothing seemed to change either. When I’d look up a solution, most people were saying the app would just do that and I’m experiencing normalcy. Nintendo never fixed it. Once this app released and the initial excitement faded, and the fix never came, I assumed Nintendo semi-abandoned it. It worked but not entirely and since it was “fine”, they didn’t arse with it. The 1000 badge limit makes absolutely no sense. Like… just let me download all the badges what’s the problem??? If they were concerned about the data file becoming too large, it clearly wasn’t…
Get another 3ds real quick and call up nintendo support to move your nnid to it. You can then redownload all your badges, or at least 1000 of them at a time.
@@doommasterz If the blue one is the one with your NNID on it, you should be able to put another SD card into it, redownload Badge Arcade, go into the game and re-access your badges via the Help Desk.
@@JamesMoneySo in order to not lose my badges, all of them are to be saved in the home page and none in the Badge box, am I understanding that right? Or is it reversed?
@@alphadragonwolfwarrior6373 The Badge Box is the data that's saved locally, while the other badges remain at the arcade/on the server. Make sure you back up all of your badges while they're in the locally stored Badge Box
@@AnaIsmySegal Unfortunately, yes - while Allbadge Tool is a program for PC rather than 3DS, the easiest way I know of putting it onto your 3DS is by using a homebrew app, since you need to know an internal value in your 3DS. That said, you could theoretically use a combination of seedminer, ninfs, save3ds-fuse and hex editing... but then you'd need to fix the CMAC, and the only tool I know of that can achieve that is GodMode9, so it'd all be for nothing unless you've got an NTRboot-compatible flashcard you could run GM9 on (at which point you wouldn't need to use seedminer or ninfs any more, but I digress). Long story short, you would need to hack that 3DS in order to use them, but it's probably a good idea to have a copy of all of them anyway on top of backing up your own badges as per the method in this video (although I'd use seedminer to get my movable.sed so I could decrypt the SD contents with ninfs in case the 3DS malfunctions).
@@AnaIsmySegal I did respond to this in detail, but you may have to sort comments by newest first and then scroll down to this thread to see it - seems like YT likes to hide comments that go into any sort of technical detail for anything ever, lmao tl;dr version: Yeah, AT is more for CFW 3DSes than stock ones, but it's still a good idea to have a full backup anyway.
The first time you start up GYTB, it will back up your current badge collection and create PNGs for them. After swapping to Pretendo, you can run that same application, it will see the PNGs, and then will add the badges back in
I wonder if you could use this sort of thing to "trade" badge sets with other people (I mean, it probably wouldn't work with me since my systems are from different regions, but I wonder if it's possible otherwise)
In order to do that, you'd have to go into "Ext Save Data" in FBI, navigate to "000014d1" and copy all contents of its user extdata to somewhere on your SD card. You'd then have to put this data onto your PC, send it to your friend and have them use Advanced Badge Editor + Simple Badge Injector to put that set onto their system. (More info on these tools online.)
I have a question: When the game shuts down, can I delete all of the data relating to it on the System Settings (game, updates, and extra data) without losing the badges?
Okay I need help understanding this. So basically you back up all your badges on your computer?? And then whenever you want to swap out badges you just plug your SD card in and replace the old file with the one you want??
Will i still lose my badges if i mod my 3ds after the internet shutdown? My 3ds version is on the update right before the latest one, so it is currently unable to use most internet functions. The badges still appear though.
If you have all of your badges in the Badge Box you should be good. Just note that swapping over to Pretendo will delete the badges so it's highly advised to make a backup before using it.
There's a section on the files' structure on the 3dbrew wiki's HOME Menu page, but you'd first need to use ninfs and 3ds-save-tool to decrypt and extract your data respectively in order to look at it yourself.
@@centdemeern1 Forgot to mention that there are also tools to edit those files and put them back onto your 3DS ("Get ANY OFFICIAL badges without other users' data" for more info on those). Also, you can bypass having to use ninfs or 3ds-save-tool by going to "Ext Save Data" in FBI, navigating to "000014d1" and copying all contents of its user extdata to somewhere on your SD card.
It isn't strictly necessary in your case because they will all stay on your HOME Menu, but if you ever lose your SD card's data, you will be unable to get it back again within the app after April 8th, so it's a good idea to make a backup just in case. The same goes for StreetPass Mii Plaza; if you ever lose the extdata for that game, most of your Puzzle Swap puzzles will disappear until you put a backup of the data back onto your SD card again.

Miiverse was just my era of the golden days... My fame peaked... I miss the good old days...
That's odd - the data _should_ be on Nintendo's servers, so either they've messed up on their end somehow, or you may have remembered incorrectly. Come to think of it, I'm not sure if they ever released more than 10,000 badges anyway, so I doubt you've lost anything. Edit: Japan had 8572 badges, and I'm pretty sure there aren't any that are exclusive to to US or EUR, so that's probably the max amount.

honestly with how many badges there are and how many are just meh.
i'd rather just use custom badges. there's homebrew out there to mass generate badges from pngs/jpgs, and another one to create entire sets.
and it'll be the only way you can change out the combinations you have.
custom badges are a bit more creative imo, but there's also archives of the official badges if anyone is looking for them
This is one of the best things Nintendo ever created, and it is so sad it is going away.
I remember playing this gane loads. I need to get more badges before it shuts down
I had to stop playing Badge Arcade after a few months because it developed a bug where it would tell me my SD card had insufficient space every time I started it up (the card had plenty of space). I considered uninstalling and reinstalling, but I was worried that I'd lose my existing badges if I did that. So I've just been stuck with the same bunch of badges ever since.
Orrr you got a FAKE SD CARD. Might want to check it.
@@asra-5180Nah, I've only ever had the problem with this game specifically. Everything else on the 3DS downloads without any issues.
You can actually safely uninstall the app and update if you want to without losing the badges.
Thank you so much for the heads up! Im checking tomorrow to make sure mine are safe and ill try and copy the file to a computer if i can, would hate to lose all my pokemon and animal crossing icons! It would take away from my 2ds personality

your badges should still be on the nintendo server. if you switch back to the nintendo server and run gytb, it will convert all your official badges to pngs. running gytb on pretendo's server afterwards, should let you use all your badges there too.
(you can probably do this with anenome now too, but im not sure how you'd do it.)
As much as I wish I could’ve racked up enough badges to turn my menu into an entire SMB level, I’m never going to get the chance, I suppose.

I’ll just mod all of them
Ok so hopefully theres no other 000014d1 folders ....
Do i need to do anything if all my badges already fit in the badge box?
8:01 No, but you probably should back up your SD card contents every now and then anyway in case it malfunctions.
The ones in my HOME menu are fine though, right?
Correct, whatever is on your HOME Menu is locally saved to your 3DS. I'd still recommend backing up the folder since it's simple to do and keeps the badges safe
Also, if you want to keep them even safer, either back up your system's essential.exefs in GodMode9 or copy out all contents of "Ext Save Data -> 000014d1 -> User Save Data" to anywhere on your SD card using FBI. (CFW required)
God i loved badge arcade. I get stupid nastolgic for this. Need to get a 3DS to mod
badge arcade is so great, too bad the switch is totally lifeless
Switch is still better
As much as I love the Switch... *yeah.*
Or just get GYTB and make yourself some nice custom badges.........

No, they are already on your system. There is nothing Nintendo can do about them.

Yes, but it's probably better to use Allbadge Tool than someone else's badges.
@@MineCrapSteve I want to get badges on both my modded and unmodded 3DS. I assume allbadge tool is great for modded 3ds's, but not unmodded
@@AnaIsmySegal I did respond to this in detail, but you may have to sort comments by newest first and then scroll down to this thread to see it - seems like YT likes to hide comments that go into any sort of technical detail for anything ever, lmao
tl;dr version: Yeah, AT is more for CFW 3DSes than stock ones, but it's still a good idea to have a full backup anyway.
Question, how do I transfer badges from my badge box to a custom badge application, so that I can carry them through the Nimbus switch to Pretendo?
The first time you start up GYTB, it will back up your current badge collection and create PNGs for them. After swapping to Pretendo, you can run that same application, it will see the PNGs, and then will add the badges back in
how do I actually upload and use the backup on the 3ds?
i thought the game already shut down
I wonder if you could use this sort of thing to "trade" badge sets with other people (I mean, it probably wouldn't work with me since my systems are from different regions, but I wonder if it's possible otherwise)
Wait, are badges literally going to vanish at shutdown?!
Only the ones outside your badge box, so this only affects you if if you have over 1,000.
Is it possible to swap the files from one 3ds to another 3ds? When I tried it said "files corrupted"
I don't think so

You can delete the game and update if you want, but I wouldn't delete extdata without making a backup first, since that may delete the badges.
kid named GYTB:
It's almost like Nintendo doesn't care.
Okay I need help understanding this. So basically you back up all your badges on your computer?? And then whenever you want to swap out badges you just plug your SD card in and replace the old file with the one you want??
Yep, you got it!
@@JamesMoney alright, I'll keep that in mind. Thank you!
@@JamesMoneyI deleted mine but didn’t back them up. I’m assuming they’re gone forever correct?
Have you tried investigating the badge folder and its format at all?
There's a section on the files' structure on the 3dbrew wiki's HOME Menu page, but you'd first need to use ninfs and 3ds-save-tool to decrypt and extract your data respectively in order to look at it yourself.
@@MineCrapSteve I see, thank you for letting me know
@@centdemeern1 Forgot to mention that there are also tools to edit those files and put them back onto your 3DS ("Get ANY OFFICIAL badges without other users' data" for more info on those).
Also, you can bypass having to use ninfs or 3ds-save-tool by going to "Ext Save Data" in FBI, navigating to "000014d1" and copying all contents of its user extdata to somewhere on your SD card.
Do I still have to back up my stuff if I only have around 300 badges and only around 40 categories or else the badges no longer work
It isn't strictly necessary in your case because they will all stay on your HOME Menu, but if you ever lose your SD card's data, you will be unable to get it back again within the app after April 8th, so it's a good idea to make a backup just in case. The same goes for StreetPass Mii Plaza; if you ever lose the extdata for that game, most of your Puzzle Swap puzzles will disappear until you put a backup of the data back onto your SD card again.
Sad
