My favorite RUclipsr is back! I just wanted to add Angels in America as an important banned book, I feel it often gets overlooked because it was written as a play. It's about 7 hours in length and 300 pages so it doesn't even get performed often enough. It was challenged because someone called it pornography. I think it's a really well written story of people living through HIV/AIDS and is a very unique reminder of history we are not typically taught in school.

Among all of your great points throughout, "Anyone that you encounter has something to teach you, and you have something that can teach anyone you encounter" is such a good quote to live by!! I feel self-help books do need to be viewed similarly to other books, as you said. In the months after reading, we have to consider why the book might have spoken to us in the moment and whether (in this case) the advice has staying power. Was it just good because it's what I needed to hear in the moment or was it advice to live by?

I've never read Potter books but I have enjoyed the films. Order of the Phoenix was my favorite for a long time but Half-Blood Prince won me over in time, if for no better reason than the comaraderie between Harry, Hermoine, and Ron.

I read Every Heart A Doorway earlier this year & I FLEW through it!

Just finished it and was looking for a YT review to help digest it. Your thumbnail wearing a Star Wars pun t-shirt was an instant draw! I liked the book, didn't love it. As an Asian-American myself I was pleasantly surprised that the two male leads were also AA, something I hadn't known before reading the book. You are spot on about the lack of communication driving the plot and I feel the same way. And yes when I think about all the traumatic experiences that happen it is AAAA LOT. Also love that you accidentally mention Recursion since that takes on an actual video game mechanic towards the end (save points). That and Dark Matter both literally exploring life's "What ifs?..." I'm very much looking forward to seeing "Tomorrow's.." film adaptation and all the games come to life.

I completely agree that reading it isn't the same as doing it! I really enjoyed this, reminded me why I stopped reading a lot of self-help books personally.

You bring up so many interesting points 👏 I agree that we as readers need to rely on our own intuition more. Sometimes a self help book as a little treat is just what you need to get you back on your feet! But sometimes, it’s not 🤷‍♀️ I definitely have sworn off almost all self help books written by white men at this point

So Fiction > Self-help books. So I've been doing it right all this time!

I found rouge to be a retelling of snow white and the seven dwarves. It might also be influenced by beauty and the beast because all of mona awads books are like a fairytale. 😁 You should also read all well by her. It is about how people with chronic illness deal with the world and how people just never seem to understand their pain. I loved it. I think you would too. 🥰🥰🥰
