I love your collection so much, Gina! 😊🦋💙📚 So happy that you love the magazine I bought for you! What fun it was to find those golden books together! 🤩 Maybe we’ll find more this visit! See you for morning coffee! 😅☕️💞 Awesome video!!
Absolutely inspiring video! Brilliant and incredible book collection 👍🏻
Hi Gina, I have the same paperback edition of September, but it was $26.99 CAN. Books are so expensive in Canada! 😂
@@helenramsay2085 oh wow!!!
❤️📚❤️ What a special collection! I am reading September for the first time next month!
Thank you! I reread September and The Shell Seekers this month and it was glorious.
@@GinaStanyerBooks 🤗
Good update, Gina! I’m trying to finish Kristin Lavransdatter! 😅
Hi Gina…I just recently found you…you were raving about Pilcher and Miss Read, so you got me…I immediately ordered 2 Thrush Green and September. I dug into September first. Oh my goodness, what a delight. I have not been much of a reader…but got stuck on psychological thrillers…you know…the girl on the train in the window of the couple upstairs😊 But you delivered me! Now on to Miss Read. Thank you for my introduction to cozy books and to booktube.
@@susanmyrick2913 awwww thanks so much! They are my two favorite authors. I hope you love them!
I have subscribed to Marilyn's channel. I'm really looking forward now to following both of you. Very enjoyable video - thank you!
So happy to have discovered your channel. I've just done this tag myself, lots of fun, this BookTube is a wonderful lark. I struggle with the idea of cancel culture also. It's a pickle, isn't it? I wonder if women suffer more hate comments than men? Is it a gendered nastiness, I wonder? I really like your open, friendly tone of voice, intelligent and engaging. I really look forward to following your bookish adventures.
Thank you so much for the nice words. You made my day 😍
I've enjoyeda few Trek books lately - as I kid I looked down on them, thinking them corny TV tie-ins. But some of them are quite good.
I try and help yous saying 'um' but i um always say it
@@GaryMartinDobbs 😂
The Oasis is the best device there is
@@GaryMartinDobbs hi! Yeah, it’s grown on me. I still wish the page turn buttons were flat and flush like on my very first kindle though.
Hi Gina, I love Winter Solstice and Elfrida too, although I would not call her elderly because I suppose I am elderly but I do not consider myself that way either. Ha. Anyway my all time favorite has to be DE Stevenson and Miss Buncle. I love house stories and Miss Buncle Married told a real dood one. AIso love Elizabeth Goudge and recently loved The White Witch a great historical novel. Now I want to reread some Norah Lofts. Her historical house books were great! 😊❤
@@cassandra3399 I love Miss Buncle too!
I just love this lady and her love for books, I would rather have her book collection than a million!
@@brendawood6712 thanks so much!
I loved Sense and Sensibilty--can't believe it's been nearly 30 years since the film was released. Wow. I just started Vintage 1954, on the recommendation of Jen's Reading Life. Enjoying it!
Watching your videos make me feel super cozy ❤
Hi Gina. I really enjoyed your responses to the tag. I love my "old lady" books too. I also love Sarah Waters and May Sarton! (I did this tag the other day, too, and I also tagged Jenni and Becca--two phenomenal women, for sure!) Again, lovely job on this tag.
Hi Gina, I want to read September! I have it but haven’t read it yet! Thanks for the suggestion.😊😊😊 I am reading The Keeper of the Bees by Gene Stratton-Porter and just loving it so much.😊😊 About the English housekeeper, don’t you just love the thought of that? Someone to take care of our needs and a friendly face each day. But it is not our culture is it? Kind of unrealistic these days but we love to imagine ourselves in that time period. Thank you so much.❤
Right Cassandra? I have this nostalgia for a vintage England (that honestly probably never really existed but I can dream!)
The umms don't bother me actually. Well... i am someone who is reading in multiple books. Currently about 12 i think, but for the first time 2 fiction books. I always kept it,, 1 fiction and the others were non-fiction. But the reason is, that ,next to my fantasy book atm, i am reading a Russian classic literature, which is pretty heavy, so i can have another book next to it. My fantasy at the moment is : A gathering of shadows by V.E.Schwab. And the classic is: Demons by Fjodor Dostojevski
I like to have multiple books going on at the same time too. Usually I have something on my kindle for reading in bed, something that I read when I'm sitting outside or in the living room...
Ugh, good luck in your effort to reduce "um" and "so"! I struggle with that so much too.
Thank you so much for the tag and kind words! I will have to get to this one very soon, I'm already racking my brain for who are good to talk about, so many. I read As We Are Now as my first Sarton this year, I enjoyed so much of the idea, structure, and writing, but that one is so bleak!!! I definitely need to read more of her work. Your lazy cow bathroom cabinet cleanup inspired me to do the same to finally this past weekend, I've been putting off, feels such a relief to declutter.
I really prefer her journals and have actually not read a lot of her fiction. I do own some and want to try it tough!
My word is "actually." I actually say actually way too often... even when it's not actually actual! I'm currently rereading "The Autumn's Brightness" by Daisy Newman.
I tried editing out my Umms for a while then I just realised everyone does it and I only notice it when it's me. I didn't try Star Trek books until I started watching booktube and I wish I'd discovered them when I was younger, I've had such a good time with them. I'll be reading September soon I think, perhaps not during shorty september/shaketember though sadly. Two of my workmates are in a long term bookclub and I just convinced them to try a Barbara Pym, I've not read that one!
Oh god, I'd never edit them out! That sounds awful :) I totally agree about the Star Trek books. I wish I'd found them earlier, but I'm having so much fun collecting and reading them now!
Hi Gina! I just finished reading The Shell Seekers. Started reading In a Summer Season by Elizabeth Taylor. I plan to reread September, as well.
Hi Gina. I couldn't sleep again last night so got up and put on an audiobook. It is The Summer Fair by Heidi Swain. I love the Nightingale Square series. So this is a light cosy end of summer read. I realized into the second chapter that I missed the characters in this series. I am going to look up September. It is one I have not yet read.
Hmmm… I’ve read somewhere that ums aren’t particularly bad to do and may even be good… but I’ll never be able to find it. By some credentialed personage of course. So’s may be a different matter - verbally innocuous I think but I’ve seen it (and fallen into it myself) in writing and it seems a bit of a fad or tic. Ya know what I’m saying?!
Ya I know what u r saying LOL :) I haven't ever gotten any complaints about the ums (but I did once have someone complain that I sounded like a valley girl and needed to learn to speak better - which of course I completely ignored).
Hi Gina, many many thanks for shouting out my channel and doing my first original book tag. We both love the old lady books and I remember the decorating author. We both loved from the 80s. I don’t remember her name offhand but I still have a T book she wrote. I read winter solstice because of you and really enjoyed it. Sending out lots of love and aloha your way.MMM
Good luck with the ‘um’s! They are the bane of my life along with ‘but’, ‘so’ and ‘yeah’. I think the idea of people who work for other people genuinely being friends is less easy to believe now as we are much more aware of power dynamics. Having said that, my mum worked for a family doing domestic work, cleaning etc, for years and she loved them and believed they loved her and were extremely kind and thoughtful with her, so she would say that it is genuine. I might disagree on exactly how genuine it can be but that’s the socialist in me! 😂
I was a nanny for a few years and there was definitely a lot of love and affection there. I guess I just want a housekeeper/best friend (and a house in the Scottish countryside 😂)
@@GinaStanyerBooks don’t we all? 😂
Love, love that cover of Sense and sensibility! I think I prefer it now to Pride and Prejudice. Rereads are so important as you see so many other things missed from the last time. I have the exact same edition of September! Picard was the last star trek show I saw. I am reserving a Barbara Cartland for garbaugust😅. August reading includes CJ Sansom , Dark Fire, very good 👍.
Hi Punita, I totally agree about re-reads. I've changed my opinion so many times upon rereading a book. I loved Dark Fire - CJ Sansom is so good. That is a great series. I am so sad that he has died.
I love Star Trek! Book Trek - who knew?
Yay! More trekkies!
I have the exact same problem with so, anyway, and ummm! Maybe we can keep each other on task to not say them! I think you did great in this video. I just finished my reread of The Shell Seekers and it was just as wonderful as ever. I think I’m going to reread September next month!
Thanks Jen! I never notice you doing it at all - we are probably our own worst critics. But I do want to continually improve.
Surprise, surprise! I am presently reading September! Really enjoying it. I read The Shell Seekers in July and wasn't that crazy about it. I know everyone will jump on me for that. I had just come home from the"Evil Rehab" where they almost killed me numerous times! Seriously. Type 1 Diabetic here and they took me off my pump and gave shots. Antonio I was on pain med when I came home; so maybe it isn't a fair assessment. Will re-read another time. Gina, I have made something for you. Is it possible to have your home address? I promise NOT to bother you. Always good to see you. How is your father-in-law and your cat doing?? 🤗
Hi Eileen, you can email me any time at Gina Stanyer at hotmail dot com. You could never bother me!
Hi Gina, I'm participating in Garb August. I've read four books so far. A mix of Harlequin and single title romance, a YA fantasy with Winternight Trilogy vibes. (The series made me a historical fantasy reader in 2020. And a Shirley Jackson novel. She's cozy horror which is why I can read her books. I'll finish the month with another single title romance and a cozy mystery.
Sounds like you are having a fun reading month! I've only read We Have Only Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson and really enjoyed it. Maybe I should pick up some more. Do you know yet which cozy mystery you are going to read? I need a recommendation.
@@GinaStanyerBooks My current cozy mystery series is Pennyfoot Hotel. I''m on #10. I've read four Shirley Jackson books My favorites so far are Haunting of Hill House and Hangsaman.
I love Star Trek Gina,I always have. I am a STOS and STNG girl. Nothing wrong with loving Trek. I love that P and P cover, it is so pretty. I found a copy of the Northanger Abbey one you have, and I love it!
I can never rate the Star Trek series that I have watched. I love them all so much!
@@GinaStanyerBooks I love the whole ST family, those two are just my comfort go to.
Winter Solstice is that written, like.. each character has it's own chapter? Because if that's the case it's a must have for me!. I just love book where it has multiple characters and each chapter is from a different character perspective! .
Yes! Each chapter focuses on a character - not from their POV since it's in third person, but around their focus.
@@GinaStanyerBooks Ooooh that sounds amazing !!. Now it's getting higher up my wishlist!! 😍
Absolutely inspiring and brilliant books! Outstanding video as always👍
I would love to revisit Rosamund Pilcher. The only book of hers I know for sure I've read was The Shell Seekers, but I'm guessing there must be at least one other. Love Sarah Waters! We need a new one! Yes to all the cozy house content and vibes.
Winter Solstice is a great one to read in the winter. It's so cozy and Christmas-y!
