​@@CharlotteWinslow Outrealm defense replays do funny things sometimes. On one of my streams from last year, somebody somehow used blutgang at 2 range on my Saphir, but no attack animations even played, it just starts a blank combat where both units have "- -" for all of their hit, dmg, and crit numbers. And blutgang is a range 1 sword, so idk how they initiated combat at range 2 with it (unless Roy's advance skill is bugged when being used in a replay?) I doubt genmars cheated here, it's probably a glitch in the replay system. I never saw seadall even use a bow in any combat here, but for some reason he is wielding one for like a turn or two...

The highest ranked player I have seen was 2357 IIRC. That player (Japanese name, I don't know it) has an insanely powerful defense team, leagues above any other defense I have played. My own highest rank is 2204, but I'll keep climbing in time when I get to play more. Afaik the rewards are not relative to your rank. You get better rewards for winning, but it's still often things like support gifts and SP books. I don't think there are any "Outrealms exclusive" rewards, which is a real shame IMO.

It does matter. Whenever your defense team is defeated, you lose some rank and the attacking player gains some rank.

Yes, after reading some comments (and especially being reminded about the Houses Unite+ thing with Byleth too) I think I'd put Edelgard in offense. Should be noted that I don't have DLC and so I don't really know what the DLC rings do except some of what I've seen on outrealms defense teams that I've fought 💪🏻

Yes, the AI operates in a pretty straightforward way, so, higher move/range for first strike and/or for more flexibility in seeking weaker units to kill seems like the primary MO for a good defense team. And I agree with you, the extra actions like reposition, instruct, and rally seem generally detrimental to your defense units functioning in a useful manner. Roy on a cav was something I specifically brought up in my vid 😆 I put in a picture of my own defense Fogado (in his royal class, +boots and longbow) who uses Roy, and I mentioned that Roy + cav seems like one of his best use cases due to rise above mov+1. You are correct on Byleth - I mostly advise Byleth for offense bc the player is not as likely to use instruct and goddess dance stupidly. I suggested Byleth on defense only for 2 reasons: divine pulse comes for free from wearing him (so that unit has more space for threatening skills,) and his goddess dance is to be considered a random wildcard, bc the AI does occasionally get 3+ units in a dance, and that generates a shitton of momentum for the defense team when it happens. There's probably a way to build your defense map/units to trick the AI into getting better dances, but that's not something I know how to do yet. Good points for Tiki. Even with what you say here, Tiki doesn't seem very powerful/useful either way, kinda just mild. For Edelgard, I totally blanked on raging storm, and even the HU+ bonus thing with Byleth. That's probably double the reason to use her and Byleth on offense 💪🏻 Hector you make a good point, many engage attacks are devastating, but doesn't he give you enough defense to shrug most of them off? Without actually having used hector, I agree he feels like Ike-lite. However, IIRC while engaged with cavs they are immune to freeze, and I would love to test that combo in my own defense a few times just to see if it pulls anything off. HMM! I also just remembered another minor point for Byleth on defense - On armor and mystical he gives... Aegis Shield and Thyrsus respectively? IIRC these give some % chance to reduce incoming damage by half, and this absolutely works to tone down the engage attack damage they take. I've 100% been annoyed by a Celine Vidame and Rosado Mage Cannon who took a whole extra round of combat bc those items proc'd on attacks/engage attacks that were otherwise ORKO.

Veronica seems better than I initially gave her credit for. When I made the video I completely forgot about her engage fortify staff and her reprisal skill 😆 yeah you are correct, she should go into the "either" tier. IIRC cavs engaging with hector makes them immune to freeze, and I personally think that's pretty good for defense team usage, maybe a paladin or great knight? I haven't really seen enough Hector stats/combat numbers personally to know if he can tank the way I use my Ike on offense, but I imagine it's comparable. Hector just doesn't seem... like an emblem? He feels weak based on what I've seen, almost like Leif, not super useful. Leif is hella tricky. Maybe I should try him on my defense team... my basic defense philosophy seeks to increase move/range/survivability, and ig Leif technically does increase survivability... I really enjoy using his weapons on offense though. I have eff armor, horse, and flier between his 3 weapons so he's a swiss army knife for me, gets lots of breaks and effective damage. Regarding the javelin/spear for his adaptable, I'm not sure adaptable Master Lance is something I would try and fight against. Don't forget, Master Lance can be augmented with +dex, +speed, +def, and +res which, IMO, will make your unit more survivable than whatever any +5 spear (even engraved ones) would give you. The augment boost to speed is enough for me, I like reducing my chances of getting doubled and/or making more doubles on the enemy, and +def/res will help you go further in surviving engage attacks. I like the idea of Timerra proccing sandstorm on engage attacks, and I think that's a legit use for her, but I've found more value in Racket of Solm, personally. Unfortunately I haven't found her pickett class to do enough for me on offense, and I have seen her on other players' defenses (usually she's with hector or Ike) and she hasn't been much of an issue to work around. That might be more hector/Ike sucking on defense than her class, though. Great comment, tysm for your thoughts 👍🏻

@@unhingedmanchild you’re right on Hector, he just doesn’t give any burst damage to him, the best he does is sit there & occasionally be a wall prevented follow-ups & breaks (only on his engage attack) at least his engage weapons have effectiveness (except his Mag Sword but that heals him lol) I guess you could think of him as a 1 turn Michiah Obstruct staff (I think his X pattern gains 1 more range when using it adjacent to Lyn), he’s a Defensive unit that needs to be used offensively As for Leif, yeah I was thinking about Spd Augments, he is a bit of an Either emblem because of his versatility on offense, but I like the thought of him on defense, though I cannot think of a good class lol, something with Long Bow access could be nice, maybe a nice Mag stat for Vantage Hurricane Axe? XD

@@drew_gon1617 For 3-range access Leif (this is a good idea IMO, it is annoying to kill when I've had to face it) you probably have 4 major choices: Fogado royal class, Warrior, Bow Knight, and Mage Knight (maybe also mage cannon but idk if they retaliate/counterattack at range 3+ with their cannon? I can't easily test so I'll ignore this.) Ofc Fogado doesn't have axe access and Mage Knight is using Thoron instead of Longbow, and perhaps that calculates differently in Leif's adaptability switches/calculations. My gut says that BK and MK probably don't have the stats/utility to seriously compete though. I have seen Fogado and Warrior Panette with Leif, and they only stick out in my mind bc I had to spend some time figuring out how to kill them 😆 mostly bc of Fogado's speed (almost impossible to double him) and Panette's HP & crit.

Ye I think as an Ike stan I'm most bothered by ragnell's implementation. If you play outrealms and get to rank ~2000+ you will at some point fight my units wielding these weapons 💪🏻 along with many other people's teams that have done similar (you can see some of their augments by looking at the engage weapons in their inventory.) Ik this because I've fought many teams with highly augmented weapons.

I guess it depends what your ultimate goal is. Are you just trying to beat story? Do you want to do relay trials? Outrealms? Tempest? Something else? For me, since I love Outrealms and especially trying to upgrade my defense team there, I'd say Celica's Ragnarok (it's in the video thumbnail after all!) I personally upgraded mine with extra mt and eff flier so Warp Ragnarok is basically a command button to delete a flying unit 💪🏻 If you tell me what your favorite mode is or what you see yourself needing augment for, I can try giving you a more specific/useful recommendation.

@@TheTeshYT Yes, good idea. If not doing outrealms, or if you want other ideas, you can try Roy's Binding Blade and/or Ike's Ragnell. Those are both very reliable weapons (IMO) for various modes, including Outrealms. Miccy's Nosferatu is kinda funny to bump with eff damage, too, although I personally kinda rarely use it.

The weapon videos were taken at various points of my recent ~month of playing, you'll see that the material numbers at the bottom fluctuate probably a few times through the entire vid 😆 But yeah, we get WAY more crystals compared to the bane books from tempest trials. I have like... 3-4 engage weapons left to get "effective damage" on, but idk if I want to grind the bane books for them...

Please get the DLC and stream a maddening run of it!!! I would love to see.

Thank you! I mostly went griffin due to the speed and access to staves. I personally find physic, freeze, and obstruct staves very useful in Outrealms, and the speed is important for quadding to beat miracle (since I don't have DLC to beat miracle with the extra engage attacks or decisive strike.) The luck is definitely another good reason, and was a factor. Also, lacking dragon weakness when a good chunk of the emblems have dragon eff engage weapons is another small pro for griffin. Axe/Lance wyvern w Marth seems pretty good for helping maintain weapon triangle adv for break defenses, and should have the bulk to survive more engage attacks, but that's not enough for me to use over griffin. There are lots of common Outrealms units who simply can't be broken via combat (Dragon Nel/Rafal, Cannoneers, Armors, and in this case other bow/tome/knife users bc we have no fist) so that wasn't a massive priority for me. Fwiw since I've recorded the games for this video, I've actually switch bouch to lance griffin and made Lapis (w/Leif) an axe griffin. Two major reasons: even with weight reduction engrave, the brave axe was still giving bouch -1 speed, so now I've given him him a +might engrave and not only is he faster with brave lance, he also hits harder than he did with the axe. Second; he's a more reliable offensive lance user than the other lancers I have, and I really wanted this role filled 👍🏻

@@unhingedmanchild I was gonna joke "why not use High priest (or Martial Master) for Break on ranged foes, x2 on every Art, staff use, Etc." a Maxed out Mag looks like a good time to use it XD But that’s interesting, how good is Fracture? That +a Warrior ally sounds like a decent combo (for merciless’s 50% buff) for the Dragons/Mage Cannoniers (though Quad Wind Boucheron with Soren’s bond ring from Ike sounds like it could handle those Low res foes) (XD /Half-Joking)

@@drew_gon1617 I haven't experimented a ton with arts, but given the low might of arts and how they target defense (capped units,) I doubt arts do significant damage to many of the meta defense units I see in Outrealms (Generals, Cannoneers, Paladins, Great Knights, Griffins, Ivy, Alfred.) Byleth's Vajra Mushti are pretty powerful, though. I usually have 2 fracture users on my team, but ehh... I mostly only use it to break armors/Ivy/Celicas/Hectors, especially to avoid dealing with Reprisal-boosted reposte. Does the warrior's merciless skill boost their engage attack damage against broken targets? That would be awesome for nuking through hold out.

@@unhingedmanchild yeah, up against range foes arts are pretty solid, & Boucheron’s helps, but if that’s the common thing then Armor effectiveness is king tbh, or targeting res (quad with wind :3c XD) As for merciless, I don’t actually know, I could test, but it probably does? At least that’s my guess, since it does meet the skills requirements Imagine that, Mechiah fractures on 3 foes, then Warrior Sigurd Overide, now that’s somethin XD

Prob about ~4 hours of grinding 😆 My griffins (including bouch) have avo +30 and speed +5 skills inherited, I'll toss that on them and auto battle level 50 tempest trials in about 5 mins. 10% bane drop rate ftw 😞

My current battle code ID is as it says in the YT video screen caps: 2VKKL0N I will probably change it in a week or two, but it's pretty good as is even now.

Be ruthless and shameless, go normal/casual so your units never permanently die, then you can auto battle all of the grinding in skirmishes and stuff (it's what I did, lol.) Thanks for checking it out! I'll even fire up a new stream tonight and play a few rounds, I'm currently attempting to increase the quality of my streams, they get pretty blurry sometimes but I've figured out how to fix that I think! I also might even do a YT video on some of the common/powerful builds and explain why I believe they are so good. Although, the skills I cover in this video (hold out, DP, miracle, bane) are some of the most common/powerful skills as it is. Still, there are some cool things you can do with the emblems, which is probably what I would focus on.

Yeah, it's a bit like Pokemon in that way, the team prep before you can actually play the endgame PVP. I forgot to mention in the video, but you can go to your bedroom and change the difficulty to the easiest difficulty to make training your units easier. That's what I did after beating maddening - switched to normal for the post game PVP grinding, cuz the story difficulty doesn't affect anything in tower of trials.

Fire Emblem is one of my faves, been playing for ~20 years basically since it first hit America. Fire Emblem was the reason that I found Heroscape and eventually started playing AotP. One day, I looked up a "board game like Fire Emblem" and Heroscape was one of the suggestions I found, and I loved almost everything about it. (Order markers I generally dislike, actually.)

Not in this playtest. Unfort the 2 glyphs I rolled were not super useful. Although, volcanic upheaval is quite powerful against a figure on the heal glyph, since you kick them off, deal 1 damage, and prevent healing for that turn. Feels red to me 👍🏻 The last playtest on the Walmart scenario worked, but that's mostly bc there's 5 glyphs, 3 of which are power/toughness. Still, it will work well when those glyphs are involved. 5-10 pts seems about right

I'm a pretty strong believer in the "dead internet theory", that most of the "views/subs/likes/followers/comments" on social media are bots/fakes used to manipulate the masses into believing that most of society agrees with crazy ass ideologies. Basically, abusing herd mentality/manufactured peer pressure to make people cave on their values out of fear of ostracism. But none of that shit works on me 💪🏻 Ofc they shadowban/censor to hide the things they otherwise cannot control and/or do not approve of. The free exchange of ideas is not allowed to exist on the internet like it used to in the IRL public square.

I feel like I struggle to make decks for the zendikar expeditions figures/spells. Although it could be a symptom of bad figure/spell design, too. Harness the Storm is an official card and it's SO FREAKING UNUSABLE, so a custom spell can kinda suffer all the same. But, even with official AotP it's been especially tough to use these armies that have both squads and heroes + a mix of spells that buff squads or heroes. These recent green playtests have been a real grind as I try and figure out how to not overcommit on Ashaya cuz I seem to either have too many hero spells or I throw ashaya to the wolves to be destroyed like I've done in my recent solo playtest games 😆😆😆 and flaming Volcanic Upheaval still being useless all the while.... I'm keeping my eye on some Halo figures, I'm gonna work on a Halo AotP set ("HalotP" 😏) as a small set to release. I saw news that a new halo miniatures game is supposed to launch in late 2024, I want to see what that is about too, potentially play that game and/or acquire it for the figures. It's almost certainly gonna be a late 2024 or early 2025 project for me, but I'm already drafting ideas for HalotP in random free time.

The heal glyph is of low interest to players until the final stages of the game, and even then its usefulness is conditional upon having a figure with decent range/life to take reasonable advantage of it. That couldn't/didn't happen this game when our walkers died right about when we got into the endgame state. The other half of the reason to go south (or "mid" is how I really should label it) is the lv 4 height tiles, which are the highest points on the map, basically conferring +1/+1 to any figures that occupy those spots. I basically committed to the lv 4 spaces after my initial weak investment in sending scions to P+1 but you wiping them out. You went mostly all in on that P+1 glyph position, while I mostly controlled the high ground. Without actually knowing the numbers even though I just played the game last night 😆 that probably mostly ended up with me getting +1/+1 in combats, while you tended to have +1/+0 in combats. See the statistical advantage I had? I think Ashaya was that much more difficult to kill with the extra defense die, although admittedly I did roll a lot of 3 shields on 5 dice which is lucky 😛
