5-9-2024 - Thunderstorm With Frequent Lightning, 40mph Wind And An Awesome Lightning Show At The End
A severe thunderstorm hit my area. There was a line of strong storms heading my way, out in front of the line there was small storms developing and becoming severe very quickly. My area didn't get hit with anything super strong but a lot of places around me did. There was one storm that developed in my county and became a severe thunderstorm with a tornado possible tag all in about 10min. The atmosphere was very unstable so anything was possible. With the atmosphere being so unstable this caused the lightning with these storms to be very interesting. This video shows all of the cool lightning that my camera could see during this event. This storm was pretty weak, but it had a few awesome lightning strikes with some very loud thunder! So I cut the whole storm out and here are just the lightning strikes. This was just a normal thunderstorm, nothing severe, there was some cool sounding thunder though. There was also some decent wind and some lightning and thunder but nothing crazy really. What was your favorite lightning strike?
Around our area got pretty wild and I knew for a fact that severe weather was coming. A small EF1 touched down about 10 miles outside my hometown from the west and the sirens were going off. By the time it got to my location, it weakened into just a heavy thunderstorm however the wind was very quiet and all I got was a little bit of heavy rain.

The speed at which that shelf cloud passes by is in cause of the cold air rush leading out ahead of the squall. That is why they are often called "gust fronts". Similar to an outflow boundary, they can cause the unstable air out ahead of it to react, in turn causing more storms to pop.
It's terrifying looking. 🤣 Looked like at any moment a giant tornado was going to come out of that.
