    asking for clarification in the basic action: selling to the foreign market. Is the transaction made by the middle class still can be done by the capitalist?

    • @LakesideGamers5
      @LakesideGamers5 6 дней назад

      The selling to the foreign market action can be done as many times as you want to take the move until the card is replaced. Not only can the middle class and capitalist both use the same foreign market card to take the move, but those players can use the market on multiple turns in the same round if they have the goods to sell. Does that make sense? Let me know if you have any follow up questions.

    Thank you for yor Video! Yesterday I played my first 2P Game and we had some strategic discussions afterwards. So your video is a blessing right now! Maybe I played it wrong, but in my last round (as capitalist) I did propose a bill fpr taxation and forced an immediate election which was successfull. I thought this affects the taxation right away. Or did I miss something? Thank you!

    • @LakesideGamers5
      @LakesideGamers5 14 дней назад

      You are correct that the election would immediately move the policy marker and you would benefit from lower taxes during the Pay Taxes step of the Production page. That is one of a few examples where it would be to your benefit to do elections in the last round, but the key was that you did an immediate election to make it happen. If I were to consider doing something similar, I would want to be confident that I would win the election, otherwise I would not want to use the move when I could potentially do another business deal or foreign trade to make more money. I would also do everything I could in the earlier rounds to keep taxes in the middle or low. If taxes were high at the beginning of round 5, I would absolutely do what you did to try to win the game. :)

      @@LakesideGamers5 perfect! Thank you for the quick response! I was 100% confident as I had some "leftover" influence whereas my opponent had none 😉 really can't wait for the next time! Ahhhh, talking about election and rules. If I use the immediate vote during action phase, would it even be possible to go for another vote within that same policy?

    • @LakesideGamers5
      @LakesideGamers5 14 дней назад

      Short answer: yes. Long answer: The rule limiting elections is that a you can’t propose a change for a policy that currently has a bill proposal. So if there is an action card used or an influence cube used to call for a vote, the vote is resolved and players can propose another bill on the same policy. Beware the fact that your opponent also has this same bill proposal opportunity, so the immediate vote takes away the protection of having a bill marker on the board that isn’t resolved until the carry-out elections step.

    • @LakesideGamers5
      @LakesideGamers5 18 дней назад

      In general the automas can play out the game, but I agree that the set nature and step by step reactivity makes it so they aren’t too difficult to beat. A live player can make adjustments based on what they see you doing, but the automa will only adjust based on what the formula tells it to do.

    • @josephpilkus1127
      @josephpilkus1127 17 дней назад

      @LakesideGamers5 That makes a lot of sense. After watching several of your videos, I watched John LaRuffa's video, and he, too, shares your opinion that the Simple Automa is far too easy to beat and the Advanced Automa is far too complicated to learn. Having designed automas, I'll have to tweak it.

    You are scoring incorrectly. You should move the revenue to capital and score VP based on the amount, so for example you would score 5 VP for having 120, then you would count the overall capital and score 3 bonus points if your wealth marker increased from prior rounds based on how many spots you moved. The marker stays there between rounds to show your highest wealth achieved throughout the game so you can see if it increased.

    How should each player view the fiscal policy?

    • @LakesideGamers5
      @LakesideGamers5 2 месяца назад

      As a whole I treat it as a low priority policy, but the Capitalist wants to keep fewer public businesses so more workers work for the capitalist. The working class likes more business work options, and working for the public companies allows the working class to buy from the state instead of the capitalist, slowing down the capitalist. Middle class will go whichever way benefits them. If they want middle class workers to hire out, more public companies is a plus. If they want to hire working class workers, then less public company competition is better. The state likes more companies to make more money and potentially have the option for more loans, but sometimes having to buy the extra companies and pay workers when the other players don’t buy the goods the state produces creates dicey situations for the state.

Should have been a pure investment of time/money, not as much luck. Also different countries should have different unit costs, to represent the quality of each as well as the ease or difficulty every country has in furnishing such. And finally there should be a better attempt at historical accuracy. 2 fronts for USA and a large economic disparity between Japan and USA.

    a major omission for board game arena... with a free subscription you can join any game as long as 1 person playing has a premium subscription. you absolutely don't need a premium subscription to enjoy the entire library. as long as you are willing to play against strangers. Yes, i have both Pacific games. I decided to not completely hit every version of every game that came out along the way (you’ll notice revised edition is not there either), and while different they were similar enough that I decided to focus in on the newest generation version. I enjoy the Pacific theater games a lot. China’s unique wrinkles are interesting to me, even if they will still get wiped out if the Japanese concentrate on them. But Japan having to choose which direction to go and fighting off attacks from every direction make it a great A&A experience.

    This is a well-made video outlining the options succinctly. I went through a similar reviewing process several years ago when I had an itch to play board games but no one around in real life. I tried all the same services you covered in your video but ended up picking Board Game Arena. Tabletopia would be a runner-up because of the graphics and intriguing games, but BGA has spoiled me. I can't see myself using a service that doesn't have the guardrails, as you put it.

      It's not just the rules for me. Sometimes there is a gap between me knowing a legal move and knowing what to click to make that move happen on other sites like Tabletopia. Every game module on BGA is different, but none of them will let you lay a card down in the wrong spot. On other services, you can make a real mess of the playing area because cards and dice don't just snap into the proper place. I hope that makes sense.

I remember in the early-mid 2000s, there where many A&A variants. East and West, The Great War, and, my favorite: Crucible. They were played via PBEM using a program called MapView. I Actually had a physical copy of East and West, but most of it, except the board and the red cardboard tube it shipped in, have been lost to time. Would be cool to MapView make a come-back. If you have 3 or 4 players, the middle class gets to be kingmaker, and if they want policies to stay in the middle, it is hard to get them to the other spots unless you have an absurd amount of purple cubes to sway the elections. Those labor unions can help, but it is tricky if the others work in concert against your A proposals.

    I get Catan as low-hanging fruit, but I think a miss on your list - somewhere between Catan and Power Grid - there should be Wealth of Nations. Wealth of Nations covers some of the economic principles from these other games, but in addition to things like trade negotiation and supply/demand, it also teaches economies of scale and automation. And the resources the players produce and trade are abstracted aspects of an economy itself: food, labor, capital, energy and ore. Some honorable mentions from my play history would include Tesla vs. Edison, which is primarily a stock game but instead of a pickup/deliver rail game, it's a historical Euro with a Power Grid-style map. With the Powering Up expansion, I would even suggest it as a swap for Power Grid. Also, City of the Big Shoulders combines the historical-industrial worker placement of Arkwright with the stock and cash systems of an 18xx-style rail game. This is probably my favorite game that I don't own.

      @@LakesideGamers5 they might be a harder find than the ones you mentioned. Wealth came out about 15 years ago and the publishing company shrank considerably with the recession. With that said, they'd like to try and get a reprint off the ground at some point, or get it onto Board Game Arena. Similarly, Big Shoulders some through a comparatively small printing after getting a lot of buzz upon release. There is talk of crowdfunding a second edition of this also. A similar story with Tesla v Edison. Artana was scooped up by Genius Games about five years ago, and have sold through their current printing. I don't know what their future plans are. The other qualifier is that this is two different games playing with and without the expansion. With Powering Up, it's a tight Euro with faction powers. Base game only it's like 95% a stock game and very cutthroat.

    There is a series of card games called Timeline that cover historical events, inventions, etc. The basic idea is you draw a card and have to place it in the correct order (a timeline). The more cards you draw, the more precise you have to be on where to place it in relation to the other cards already on the table. Simple, and good for reviewing topics already covered, or a way to give students a general idea of when certain events happened in relation to other events.
