why no info?
Which antenna do you have there?
I appreciate your attention to detail.
Thanks Aaron! I'm happy to hear that.
👍
Hmmm…there’s a GPS chip?! Nice!
Yes it has a GNSS location module.
Sweet! Looks like my T-Echo just went obsolite.
WisMesh Pocket is a cool little device. I like it.
Cómo puedo apagar el receptor icom IC-R30
Preciono el botón de apagado y no apaga. Tengo que aflojar el seguro de la batería para que apague. O hay que presionar otro botón adicional para que apague.
I wonder if your grey power button is broken. I never had any issues with it.
I see you looking at my PCB
Nice to see a like-minded person :D I was also thinking about PIC (Programmable Interface Controller) lol.
what's the watch
It's LILYGO T-Watch-S3 ESP32-S3. I got it from Aliexpress: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DlXs0Wb
Got the battery through the link your provided, and just replaced it following your video. My dying Max 2 is like new again! Thank you!
Is there a program you would advise for a chat ui on the steam deck? Im new to meshtastic, but I've had my deck since 2021.
I just use client.meshtastic.org/ and it works for my needs :)
pls make avid of show casing the firmware pls ❤❤❤
Can’t get it to work 😊
Which radio firmware did you try? I had to do full erase before installing.
How can I replace the bezel? Heat?
I used two sided very thin tape.
@@TechAirSpace Your first step with the blue Triangle: It's impossible for me to replace the cover.
Thanks for the video! I love my Max 2 and use it for sheet music reading on gigs. For some reason when I bring up a menu now, it just shows me a white box with no info. Makes it very hard to make a choice or choose an action when you can’t see anything. Any idea why this might be happening? Any help greatly appreciated!
*I have a Boox Lumi 2 that will need the battery replaced this year sometime.* Can anyone point me to and advice in doing this and/or where to purchase a new battery? I'm guessing I just pry the body out of the bucket and then search for any info found on the physical battery... anyway, thats my plan thus far.
This battery works with Lumi 2: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DmDoD6X Compatible batteries (correct size and connector) are getting harder to find. Better get one when they are still available.
Looks like the replacement should be very similar to Boox Max 2 in my video.
@@TechAirSpace My sister has an account with Aliexpress, she's ordering two for me today. I'd set-up my own account and tried to make the purchase, but the Paypal method failed for reasons I can not fathom.
@@TechAirSpace Indeed, it doesn't look that complicated but having killed two Kindle Keyboards when changing the battery, I'm a little nervous.
@@TechAirSpace Thanks for that, I've ordered two hoping that my Lumi is going to go on forever! :)
Ok thank you
Happy to help
Easy to build?
It's quite easy to build but takes some time to configure. I'll post a video later.
Does it have an internal battery?
Not yet. I'll need to order the Pisugar battery pack.
Hello, do you know what is the standard voltage alimentation for the mig 21 cockpit instruments. I have an oil pressure indicator and would like to test it on the bench but i can't find any informations and i don't want to burn it. I've seen on some sites that it takes 27volts, some sites says that it takes 400hz and some says it's DC. If you have any informations on the subject, i would be very thankful for your help.
If I remember correctly the MiG-21 AGD-1 artificial horizon uses 27 ± 2 VDC. I think I also used 28 VDC for one of my other MiG instrument and it was fine. Google the instruments P/N with "Напряжение" which means voltage. If you can't write the name of the instrument in google you can use: www.lexilogos.com/keyboard/russian.htm. When you find some info just use google translate to check the device specification. There is a lot of info out there but most of it is in russian.
@@TechAirSpace Thank you for the info, i'm gonna try that.
I need this...now.
Lol pulled out the blade to look cool😂
That was a hat tip for my buddy who's into EDC stuff😂
what device is it, please?
Lilygo T-Deck
Do you need to select pins in the Meshtastic app? If so which ones?
I didn't change any settings and it just started working.
Same here. Did not need to config anything.
Interesting, how do you make it speed up the countdown? Is there just a glitch that playing with the volume speeds it up?
I had to speed up the video (in few spots) to fit the in the 60s youtube short
Frends, i find one in working condition on flea market, but is on german language, can i change language of system? Thanks
You need a new rom for it. Check out github.com/explit7/Psion-ROM www.consumingexperience.com/2008/06/psion-5mx-psion-5mx-pro-tips-sysrombin.html?m=1 and www.toughdev.com/content/2017/04/changing-the-language-on-a-psion-series-5-pda/
What are you using to seal the sma connector?
I used electronic grade silicone. The threading was already enough but I always use just a tiny bit to be sure.
Thanks!
which Screws do you use for the case?
I used M2.5 x 20mm Hex Socket Head Cap Screws. Screws were just a little bit too long so I had to use a drill bit to extend the screw hole.
@@TechAirSpace thx a lot
That looks like a black berry pretty cool device
I really like it. Can't wait for the Meshtastic firmware to get better on this device.
I think I will just use 3 18650s hot glued down. My cells are the bare type with welded on tabs. at 3aH a pop so 9 total it should last a week :)
Sounds good! :)
Do I need to consider anything with the 1x 18650 or the 3x 18650 version? Like a BMS board or something? Which leads me to the second question, can the batteries be charged inside the device (I don't have a T-deck yet), so via USB, or do the batteries need to be removed for charging? Thanks.
Mine arrives in two days. lol
It's an amazing little gadget.
your project look clean i got 2 questions what is the size of your drill bit and what is the atenna adapter/type thank you
Adapter type is RP-SMA to iPEX since I have RP-SMA connectors in my antennas. store.rakwireless.com/products/ipex-to-sma-connector The drill bit was 1mm smaller than the outer diameter of the RP-SMA connector thread. Can't remember which size drill bit it was.
@@TechAirSpace thanks
But you didn't use a regular drill bit, did you? It seems to me like you cut a thread.
@@extremehightech Whoops. I guess I forgot to add the clip to the video where I used the RP-SMA connector to create the threading. The plastic is quite soft so I just once threaded in the connector with a wrench (from inside case to outwards). Brushed extra plastic off the connector and threaded it back in. I have to tool for this kind of stuff but I don't need it with these soft materials.
If you need to put a hole in the box use a stepper bit
Cómo se desbloquea el teclado!
Just flip it open and start typing.
does it require to connect to a radio node or it operates like peer to peer?
Works like mesh network (also peer to peer) and you can have dedicated routers if you want.
I have an idea to make this device into ultimate SHTF messaging tool. Basically, the idea is to create an open source version of SpotX with no monthly subscription fees and no reliance on ground-based authentication gateways and delivery gateway, which will become inoperable in SHTF scenarios. What would it take to make T-deck send and receive messages on 240-270MHz (instead of current 866 Wi-Fi frequencies) , and also on 430s TinyGS satellites???
Hmm I think SX1262 chip can do 100 to 1000 MHz roughly. 240-270 would not be legal in some areas but that would not be impossible. Not familiar with TinyGS but that project looks interesting!
Nice video - thank you for sharing. I built one of these kits but didn't use an external antenna, I also added a GPS module to the kit - I can tell you that in bright sunlight here in TX I am NOT able to keep the battery charged (2000mAh flat pack) flic.kr/p/2pDALjS . Fun kit and works well with Meshtastic - just think a larger solar panel is needed.
Hmm. For some reason I did not see your message earlier. Sorry about that! Mine has been on my roof now since I built it and the battery level is staying between 70-50% (at least what Meshtastic node info is reporting). I only have one semi active node near me. I guess it's the minimal packet traffic that helps keeping my device up and running?
Is there a reason you went for this battery instead of the 2000mah version? And overall how have you found this unit with regards to power and charging? I’ve seen they do a bigger box with a bigger solar panel.
Great videos though, very helpful
This battery was recommended by someone on Meshtastic Discord. I think it's the biggest one that fits under the circuit board. It's quite a tight fit. I have a larger custom box coming up with a bigger solar panel. I haven't done any extensive testing yet on this RAK node. It's been inside my house for a week now and the battery is at 34%. I'm doing a test without sunlight first and then I will take it outside for another test run to see how long it lasts with that tiny panel.
If you get creative with your attachment of the board and your wiring you can get two 18650's into one of these things and still close it. That will get you about 3 weeks of use even with no sun. However the tiny panel on these things will make it necessary to retrieve the node periodically to charge or swap the batteries, so make sure you have an easy way to place and retrieve it.
Interested to see how the solar panel can handle extended exposure to the heat and sun. I had some that crapped out due to the sun here in Florida
GPS is indispensable! That's why I carry my Radtel rt-490 to every trip and sail. But it drains the battery. Therefore, it'd make sense to add an on/off switch (hardware or software) for the GPS. Given the size and flat surface of the back, it would also make sense to add a 2W solar panel. Could be a lifesaver.
Is the Radtel rt-490 waterproof? How do you like the Radtel devices? I'm not familiar with them.
@@TechAirSpace I haven't dropped my 490 in water, so don't know how waterproof it is. It's been with me in quite heavy rains though - and it's fine. I'm into hiking, bushcraft, and sailing, so having a secondary GPS has been very useful in those situations when you need to locate yourself on paper map or marine charts. USB charging is also useful because you can power from power-bank or mini-solar on your rucksack. As a radio it's pretty good - surprisingly clean sound. With a good antenna it can listen to satcom. It listens to airband quite well, but I don't care for those. It has a scanner but it's almost impossible to find an interesting conversation. So you need to have a secondary SDR with you, like Malahit. There isn't a handheld radio that has SDR. If I had the money I'd get ICOM IC-705 (10w), but it's too heavy and bulky; and handheld ID-52e doesn't have the full SDR capabilities. RT-490 has an enthusiastic community on Telegram (mostly Russian) that hack it and make it RX/TX 100MHz-998MHz and improve its signal. It's not very powerful for transmitting (~5w) and the stock antenna is trash (get an Abbree or Radtel tactical antenna) and the colour screen probably eats too much battery. The battery is 1880mAh and on standby can last for several days (with GPS switched off). I would get Radtel 830 (it's 10W and more sensitive to satcom) but 830 doesn't have GPS. Overall, 490 is not bad for a £50 radio+GPS for self-training trips into the wild. I don't buy things easily - I give each item quite a bit of consideration (I just don't like clutter in my life). If I'd find something better, I'd buy it - but I haven't. For survival situations 490 can actually be more useful then the rest of generic Chinese radios. And that is also the reason why I'm getting interested in Meshtastic and LilyGo T-deck. If there was a T-deck that's ready to use (GUI, GPS, solar panel, Battery cassette), I'd buy it.
@@TechAirSpace I'm not much into ham, just have the 490 and some antennas that I find useful in the outdoors. If I had your soldering skills, I'd probably improve my Ratel 490 by making a custom USB-chargeable battery cassette with three 18650 cells, replace the screwable plastic headphones/mic cover with a permanently attached rubber plug, and add a LED torch-light with on/off button at the base -- to make it even more useful in field situations. There's also a new Radtel 580 that has hit the market recently that you might be interested in (depending on why you're into radios). Radtel 580 has 3 listening channels, GPS, Bluetooth headphone, IP67/68/69, 3800mAh, USB charging. In the next few weeks there will be more reviews, so we'll see how it holds up to its claims.
@@garenkarapetian709 Have to check out the Radtel 580 reviews. Thanks for the tip.
Given it's large flat surface, it would make sense to install a 2W solar panel on the back. In some critical situations it might be a life saver.
It would actually be fun to add a small solar panel to the back. I might try that. Thanks.
I ordered one of these kits to build with my 9yo. I'm in the process of building one myself entirely DIY, and he's expressed interest, so I ordered this kit as an easier, less-improvised version for him to build. We'll probably make the same modification for an external antenna, too.
This is a perfect build with a 9yo. Easy to assemble and parts from RAK are of high quality. My friend uses a magnetic mount with this case and he said it's fun to pop the device to any metal surface.
mine came with speaker installed but no sound. Can anyone help Pl.
I had to turn the volume setting quite high to hear anything.
Thanks for the vid!
Thank you for watching!
You will have to let us know how that little solar panel does, I'm making a few of the DIY enclosures like COMM's channel did, but with a smaller 4 watt solar panel and a 10,000mah battery. I hope that little panel keeps the battery charged for you. Please update us on your testing. Great build !
Roger that! I am also making a larger box with bigger solar panel. I will be using bunch of 18650 batteries.
Cool. Thanks for the video.

I've noticed that that keyboard is available on Amazon under a lot of different brands. Over here (NL) they are sold under "Tolesum", "McBazel", "MoKo", "Irishom", "Fosmon", etc... there is a reason for that which has to do with promotion by Amazon when you search for "foldable keyboard". Point is, don't get stuck on the brand name when looking for that keyboard as it's solder under lots of names.
Good info! Thank you for sharing it with people.
