Little Bear Peak via Hourglass + Ellingwood Point // Colorado 14'ers

I return to the range where I climbed my first 14'er in order to witness my friend climb his first. The Sangre de Cristo Range is studded with beautiful peaks, and we spend the first day on the class 2 route to Ellingwood Point. On the second day, we attempt Little Bear via the class 4 Hourglass Couloir. No matter how many 14'ers you climb, there's always something left to discover. 0:00 Intro ...

This randomly popped into my suggestions and it looked cool never heard of this one before. Out of the hundreds of videos I've watched in the past couple days alone this was by far my favorite one. Everything is very polished in the storytelling and narration really sinks you in. I unfortunately won't be in the area to do this but this has definitively been added to my bucket list. Go in up POPO AGIE. Lander. Turn North. This is back country hiking but best hike is Up Death Canyon out Cascades Grand Teton. Wind Rivers are way less used. As for driving it is a 460 mile loop arpund them Jackson to Dubois to Lander up popo agie FS Road out south end back on highway to Pinedale cut up dirt road on west side it comes out in Pinedale. Hoback Jackson. From Jackson the loop around Yellowstone is 330 miles. Wind rivers are best used on trails. If you want to wander go to Beartooth. Or Gallatin side of Yellowstone. I always tell folks if hiking multi day in Yellowstone go from upper falls down the river out Gardiner. South end FS road has multiple lakes. Camps. Its 18 miles in up popo agie. You are out there.

    Those berries he is eating are why it is Grizzly Central. 5 or more types. So if a lot of them beware. More types of berries than anywhere in USA. I don't go into the Gorge side. Stay above 8500. Preferably 9000.

    The fire tower at top turn towards tower is the ridge. It is barren goes out a few miles drops you right in middle granite lake area. North of big meadow. We camp on the big granite knobs above. North of meadow. IT IS GRIZZLY CENTRAL. BIG TIME. Barronette is best peak up there. Go up ridge from ice box canyon. Or go out to Spirit Mountain. And as I always say, there is nothing up there but rocks. Once high.

  • @sluggotinfantryman
    @sluggotinfantryman 5 месяцев назад

    You can park at the pass. South side. Walk up onto the ridge right out to Spirit Mountain. Google it. Day Hike. Overlooks both sides and middle. The last couple of lakes. South side. You can go right up lake chain. Off 212 miles past Top of World. The Fire Tower road first bend drops down into the giant wooded bowl. Muddy Creek. Biggest Meadow. Which also goes out to 212 way below Top of the world. The fire Tower and Pass are easy pickings.

    Just a thought on the emotional experience of being in the mountains. The mountains have a way of stripping your soul down to who you really are. Especially when you have to dig down deep just to get to a certain place. There is something about seeing grandeur and beauty in those moments where you make a connection - a connection between your soul and something absolutely magnificent. There is nothing else like it.
