    I've been shooting for 45 years and didn't get into pistols until about 24 years ago. A gunsmith recommended that to me and I got one in .40 cal. so I did and was pleased with it. That gun and it's mags were made for .40 Unlike most .40s which are 9mms repurposed for .40. .40 s&w isn't normally my bag, but in this gun it really good. I bought another about a year ago in 9mm and love it too. I've have had about 75 pistols in my life, but the Px4 is still my favorite pistol hands down. and my home defense go to. They're incredibly reliable, pointable, pleasant shooting and accurate partially because of the bore axis staying low and parallel to the slide. Anyone can easily get one for $400 so it's a no brainer. You get 14-17+1 in .40 cal. or 17-20+1 in 9mm in a compact-ish full size pistol. Night sights are a good upgrade to make because factory sights point high, but I'd recommend having a gunsmith do it because removing the old ones is a mission impossible on the PX4. Lightening the trigger spring, talon grips and a Langdon trigger bar are nice low cost upgrades. I do wish they made a 1 piece ext./threaded barrel with a wider profile. The factory ones have two piece barrels to save steel in manufacture, which is fine. One piece would be stronger but the PX4 is plenty strong as is. Langdon tactical uses a wider barrel which softens recoil even more. The barrel rotates a whopping 90 deg to unlock, so more weight far from the axis of rotation does slow the slide Even though this gun is over 20 years old now, in my mind this is still the most modern pistol commonly available. The problems with the tilting barrel is the case head doesn't sit flush against the breech face and the locking surfaces aren't symmetrical, they intuitively point low and raise the bore axis. ..They work but like everything there are plusses and minuses. As much as I'm slow to criticize Browning, I think the rotating barrel makes more sense because of lower and more direct bore axis vis a vis the shooter, also rotating barrels are easier to make since they don't need long protrusions like ramps or cam tracks which triple the diameter of steel stock needed to turn them on a lathe. The Langdon tactical versions are more $$, but well worth it for a gun nerd. For most people the stock ones will still be great. Good video, keep up the good work.

    The Remington's trigger house sits with two pins - it doesn't get knocked off if hit sideways. The shell lifter in the Mossberg can pop out if the gun is dropped - renders the gun useless untill taken appart. Remington has terrible coating - can be fixed. Steel reciever lasts + 500000 shots. Mossberg's last 20000. (With the UN's law of stopping all guns for civilian use, a good lasting gun for your childrens grandchildren is adviced)

    my 617 had a lot of issues as well (light primer strikes, out of time and canted barrel). those were fixed by the factory. i think not being able to close the cylinder may be due to leadbuild at the gas shield. maybe the cylinders were not 100% aligned with the bore. during the first cylinder or 2 after coming back from the factory i got a dud which i thought was a light primer strike but it truly was just a dud. since being fixed the gun has been working well. the trigger is on the heavier side compared to centerfire smiths and the trigger breaks differently in some chambers compared to others but overall i am now happy with the gun. they repaired the yoke, recut the forcing cone and replaced the extractor

    It's hard to say without examining your particular revolver, but part of the issue of closing the cylinder after a few rounds may be the accumulation of unburned powder and othet fouling under the extractor. This area must be kept clean and dry. Clean the area under the extractor and the recess in the cylinder, lube the area with only one drop of oil, then wipe the lube off with a clean dry patch. See if that helps. Also, it's a patridge front sight, not a partridge front sight. The front sight on you M19 is a Baughman Quick-draw. Yeah, I'm being a little picky... Thanks for posting.

      Yeah, I'd have it immaculately clean, including under the ejector star, and the problems would occur within 20 rounds. Oh ok. I didn't know that was called that! =) Thanks for teaching me something!

    • @jamesp739
      @jamesp739 4 месяца назад

      You're welcome! You're certainly not alone. Many, many people call it a partridge sight. On your M19, Google "Baughman front sight history" for some interesting tidbits. Also, if you're not doing it already, try ejecting the empty cartridges with the barrel vertical, muzzle up and snap the extractor, don't pump it. At the end of the stroke, roll your thumb off the extractor rod and let the extractor snap back into place. The quicker, the better. Hope I explained that well enough. If you have an assortment of ammo, Federal, Remington, Winchester, etc. see if you notice any difference in the amount of debris left behind. Some brands burn cleaner than others. High velocity vs standard velocity ammunition may also show a difference. If all else fails, keep an old toothbrush handy and brush the recess the extractor sits in and the underside of the extractor occasionally, even if you don't see any build up. These tips work well on centerfire revolvers as well. Hope this helps. Good luck! @@steelbearacademy8855

    I have a couple of Mossbergs, but I bought a Remington 870 recently. I had always had the idea in the back of my mind that I would buy one if I came across a bargain, and that finally happened in the form of a Wingmaster from the 1950s. It really is a beautiful gun. I have a great deal of respect for the 870, and I enjoy shooting mine, but I still think the Mossberg design has a slight edge. I like that the lifter is out of the way during loading, and I think the placement of the controls is better too. The alloy receiver is a plus in my book. I've never heard of one breaking, and it's lighter than steel. The AR15 has an aluminum receiver too, and nobody seems to object to that. That being said, the reason this is still an ongoing debate is because they are both so good that you really can't go wrong with either of them.

But is it " necessary " for the serious stuff of fighting a war or defending one's home?? An empathetic NO is the legitimate answer.
