    I bought a similar one with 161k , with no history on maintenance. What would you recommend changing in it . It drives perfectly, just once i do a cold start it keeps humming for 10 sec then it goes away . I love your videos keep it up

    • @jasonochoada3083
      @jasonochoada3083 24 дня назад

      Congratulations on your new purchase! It's hard to diagnose but if the humming is coming from the engine and sounds like an electrical buzz it could be the throttle body. This can be normal. As far as maintenance I would recommend getting a good scanner which can read specific Volvo codes. I believe the least expensive way to get into that is the autel ap200. It reads standard obd codes plus I believe it includes one specific make add on. For maintenance I guess I would start with safety and check the quality of the brake fluid. Purchase some test strips and flush if necessary. An often missed item is the interior cabin filter and of course oil change air filter and plugs. Another route would be to get a Carfax or similar report. Sometimes they can provide maintenance records which could give you clues. Wish you the best of luck!

    My 11/16 deep socket doesnt work. And its brand new! And you have a belt on yours, not mine. Hmm did sunjoe forget?

    • @jasonochoada3083
      @jasonochoada3083 5 месяцев назад

      Maybe there is a small detail that I forgot to convey? There is a metal piece which slides through the shaft and that is what the socket grips. Maybe the design was changed so a different socket size is required. Regarding the belt it's actually better if the belt is removed because then your drill does not need to drive the motor which is hard on the belt / motor / and drill. If you didn't have a belt inside or it broke then the mower won't work, the motor can't turn the blades. If it worked fine then there is a chance you are trying to work on the non drive side. Hope this works!

    7:16. You should really measure below rim of the caliper where the pads wear the rotors down (ie below the outside lip of rotor). Will generally be thinner than where you are measuring.

    • @jasonochoada3083
      @jasonochoada3083 5 месяцев назад

      Yes you are correct. The best way is to remove the caliper and rotor and measure the rotor with a micrometer. Also to measure the pads while removed. For me practically I change the pads and rotors at the same time regardless.

    Nice work. I've seen others modify manual reels with conveyor rollers. Did you consider that option at any point? Sorry if you said that and I missed it.

    • @jasonochoada3083
      @jasonochoada3083 2 года назад

      Hello! Thanks for the interest and comments. I did consider that option but decided to go a different route for two reasons. First, I couldn't find a roller that was easily accessible that fit the required width. The second reason is that the mower in this case is very lightweight. I was worried on thick grass the mower would float and not cut as low as otherwise possible. Hope this helps 👍

    • @robstealey1856
      @robstealey1856 2 года назад

      What you’ve created is more akin to a grooved roller than a flat roller and that produces a better cut…kuddos.

      @@robstealey1856 Thanks! I actually targeted a more grooved design. Because the mower is so light I was worried about it floating on the dense grass.👍👍👍👍

    Jason, now that you've had and used these for a year now, how do you still like them? Are they holding up for you and doing a good job? Do you have a link to the modification you did on the reel?

      @jasonochoada3083 2 года назад

      Hi Troy! Thanks for the interest! Yes I would definitely purchase again. For me it led to adding another mower. I use a toro greensmaster for the large areas and the sun joe for edges etc. I have an 8k+ yard and it was quite a bit of work especially in 100+ humid heat. But I am very happy with the mower. You just need to make sure the yard is free of sticks mulch etc. Can you clarify what you mean in regards to the reel modification?

      It's as simple as speed and time in 100+ heat 😂. I wanted my time back instead of mowing 8k+ 2-3 times a week with the Sunjoe. It's a bit less now because I use a growth regulator now also.

    Is running the motor with lapping compound have the same effect as backlapping?

    • @jasonochoada3083
      @jasonochoada3083 2 года назад

      Hi Syd, thanks for the interest. Unfortunately, in order to do the backlapping properly the reel has to run backwards. I guess it could be possible to reverse the leads on the motor and run it backwards but I didn't investigate that option. It's also an advantage to have the ability to adjust the speed if necessary which is why I chose to use a drill.

    • @sydmichael13

      With the hassle of removing the wheels and everything. I was wondering if just putting gringing compound and run the motor will still sharpen the reel

    • @jasonochoada3083

      Yeah it's some work but running the motor in as normal with compound would definitely dull the blade.

    jealous of your sunjoe with the front roller mod. Ever have an issue where one of the blades just jams on the bedknife? It was only one of the blades. At first I saw a burr, tried filing it, but never got it working right again. Maybe it hit something and bent the blade. I was inside the return window so just returned it. Missing it a bunch already

    I've owned push-reel mowers almost all my adult life. I really enjoy the workout. I just bought the 24V Reel Mower and tried it out. Something to have in mind: Don't expect a push-reel mower to give you the same really clean grass cut as that of a rotary mower. The "suction" effect of the rotary mower, the sharpness of the blades and the rotation speed of the motor is much better than what a push-reel can provide. This Sun Joe 24V Reel Mower is no different. Because of the way the blades turn, to really do a good job, you have to go over the same patch twice. Go out in a certain direction and return over the same path. So far, the best push-reel I've tried is the Fiskars StaySharp reel but it requires quite a bit of effort to push.......I've heard the new ones may require less effort. Another good one is the "American" brand because it does a decent job and does not require as much effort as the StaySharp. I live out in the country in Texas and the grass is a mix of several very thin but strong blades of grass..........not an easy job for push-reels. The mower blades must be in near-perfect condition to deal with this type of grass. It's obvious when the mower needs a "backflap" (blade sharpening) because you don't see a uniform grass height (like you see with a rotary mower). Only when they're brand new do all push-reels give you a uniform grass height. After three or four times of cutting the grass you'll have to start tinkering with the blades (can be a real drag). This 24V Reel Mower is good from an "emergency" type of situation where the "workout" is out of the question and it's best to "just cut the grass".........It will not be great but you can come back with your old "manual" push reel and fix it at a later time.

      Hello, I think the strategy for a reel vs a rotary is quite different. You really can't get away using a reel once a week unless you are using a growth regulator. You really shouldn't be cutting more than 1/4 inch with a reel in my opinion. I think many of the issues you mentioned are from not cutting often enough. With a rotary there is much more flexibility 👍
