    Thanks for the great video. I am in the market for a similar boat and you caught my attention to the 188cc. Assuming this is your second season owning it, are you still as enthusiastic about your decision? Any thoughts you could share would be much appreciated. I am in RI and retired but still have the desire to fish and spend time with the grandkids.

    Some pieces of feedback for your video: 1) Snakes are venomous; not poisonous. 2) It would have been more educational if you explained about how endangered these venomous snakes species are in Massachusetts and how these snakes prefer to avoid human interaction. Instead you fed into people's fears with the creepy Halloween music.

    Good to see you. I've got a stepdaughter in Maine, she said it has been a wet spring. I'm going to assume there were lots of skeeters. Oh, we see those things driving around in town in Iowa all the time. Anna, good to see you pretty lady. More than pretty, extremely competent in many things as well. That loon, cool. Been a while. Last time I heard a loon was 20 years ago in Wisconsin. Things are well in Iowa. My wife is happy, all the berry bushes planted this spring are in good shape, the garden is planted, I'm still walking the dog, wife and I are going fishing in the morning.

      Hey Phil, Alway great to hear from you. Just arrived up in Quebec, old city to a beautiful day yesterday but this morning it’s rainy and cold. Probably do museums and art galleries today. Maybe check out the old fort. Don’t know much about the history of Quebec, but I will figure it out. Good to hear you guys are doing well in Iowa and that the garden made it through the winter. Life is what you make of it and hopefully we’re all fulfilling our dreams. I love the solitude of Maine and the call of the wild. Coyoties, Owls and Loons all give me that one with nature feeling. Hope all is well with you and family. Enjoy your fresh berries, I put them on my cereal every morning.

    Paul! good to see you. Chris, as always, good to see you. Thanks for showing us around. Out here in Iowa it is a cool wet first week of spring. Potatoes and Garlic have been planted. Lots of seeds and sweet potatoes sprouting indoors. I've got berry bushes ordered from Iowa DNR. They will be here in two weeks. When they get planted it brings the total to 13 fruit trees and 18 berry bushes on our half acre. That goes with the 1,600 square feet of garden and raised beds. We haven't been fishing yet. Maybe this week we start fishing. We finished up the last of 2023 catch about a month ago. Retirement is great. I'm walking the dog about a thousand miles a year lately. Got the garden, the fruit trees and bushes and the grape vine to also keep me busy outdoors. I've started making primitive jewelry out of quartz, granite, amethyst agates, petrified wood and other stones. I've been shaping and polishing stones for two years now.

    High Anna! Some of my old neighborhood. I lived in that area for a few years. Some beautiful areas, great fishing. I almost hit a moose on Route 25 between Meredith and Center Harbor one icey morning. It was terrifying. Black ice, come around a bend and there it was. I used to cross country ski in the woods by Squam Lake, between routes 3 and what is now 258, but used to by 25A. I had cross country skis and snowshoes here in Iowa but there was never enough snow and time. After getting two feet of snow just a couple weeks later there is barely enough snow for the dog to eat. Dog and I got 2.9 miles today. Then I got the compost piles turned and the grape vine pruned.

    Hey buddy. Thanks for sharing video of the old hangouts. Good to see you. I'd put a sheath on the ax so as not to damage the skis. You'd hate to get a gash in them. Nice to see Paul. Oh, the slopes look very well groomed. Remember just dropping into a crouch and going straight down. Not anymore, we've learned how fragile we are. Those lift lines, terrible, just get there and go back up? How dare they. Monday skiing is nothing like Saturday. Remember when we were kids and we would shovel snow for cold hard cash. I made a Hundred Eighty Bucks clearing snow this month. Not bad for an old man. Two thirds of the shoveling I did by hand until I could get out and buy a new snowblower. We had some serious snow, schools closed, stores closed, interstate closed. Just me and the dog on the street. I tent camped at Big Rock campground one New Year's Eve. It go so cold you could hear tree branches bursting from the water freezing in them. Propane camping stove got to cold to evaporate fuel. My girlfriend and I were dumb enough to still have a great time. Life is good in the Midwest. We had a week of subzero weather with wind chills to -40. I still managed to walk the dog every day. It has been warmer this week. Today was a no long underwear day! Yippee! Sidewalks are pretty clear of ice and snow finally. I may get out tomorrow and do some yard work. Vines to prune, compost to turn, maybe trim the apple tree a bit. Tomato and sweet potato plants have started popping up in the indoor starter shelf. I've got more berry bushes ordered for spring planting. Glad to see you out you old man. Life is good.

      Hey Phil, Always good to hear from you. Yes, Paul Pacenka and I have been skiing for many years and we also do a lot of backcountry canoeing and many other outdoor activities. We are kind of sportsman for life. Paul is the one who drives the van up and down my Mount Washington in the summer and ski instructor during the winter since he retired three years ago. I’m still working at Comcast, but they’re good to me, so I can’t complain. Never enough time to do all the things I like to do but the money helps defray the cost of good times. Really sounds like you live in the North Pole but I’m sure it’s beautiful in many other ways and you’re tough. You just have to throw an extra log on the fire and you’ll be fine. I have a place in Florida, which I visit a few weeks during the year usually in March but I still enjoy the seasons. Cape Cod doesn’t really have a spring because of the cold winds off the ocean. I hope to do some scalloping then, or at least get my gear ready for summer activity in the boat. Keep warm happy thoughts and enjoy your health while we have it. Hopefully my videos inspire people to keep doing whatever they want to do and not wait. After Paula’s demise , I realize just how quickly the end can come so that’s why I wear a good pair of running sneakers so it won’t catch up with me. Thanks for reaching out. SH my new identity lol

    Cold? We had temps to -17 during the day recently. Wind chills to -40. And I still walked the dog. Have you tried batoning kindling? Use a full tang knife and drive the knife through a split piece of wood by hitting it with a stick (baton). It is similar to using a wedge but on small pieces. Better control than with a hatchet.

    • @SaltyheadAdventures
      @SaltyheadAdventures 6 месяцев назад

      Hey Phil, that’s some cold you have out there, I’d probably need two more layers of clothing to survive those temperatures. I suppose you just get used to everything when you’re living in it. I work outdoors at Comcast and I try not to think about the weather. I know if it was freezing cold, and it was my day off. I’d probably go skiing anyways or for a hike in the woods. The point of my last video was just that, if you dress appropriately you can handle any weather. I have used the batoning method, but didn’t know it by that name. My buddy and I were just hanging out for the day and decided to make a video with some tools I had kicking around. After the video was over, we went in his shed and sharpened all the tools. Fun day!

    Chris remember how much of the old Marconi station was still there when we were kids? This reminds me of Luke 6:47-49. Small town Iowa here, I've got 19+ hours clearing snow in the past 9 days. Temps below zero, wind chill to -40 and i was still out walking the dog. We know how to dress in layers out here. But the laundry piles up quick. 19+ hours? yah, I'm doing some for the neighbors, my 17 year old snowblower died and I did a bunch of it by hand. 66 years old and still shoveling when it is below zero and the sun hasn't even come up yet. I finally got to a new snow blower after it was safe to drive. I was using it on a drift in the neighbors driveway that was most of five feet tall and days old. More snow coming tomorrow. Good to hear you again.

    • @SaltyheadAdventures
      @SaltyheadAdventures 6 месяцев назад

      Hey Phil, Your getting too old to be shoveling all that snow. That’s why people have kids so they can do it. lol Living by the sea, I try to wait until the hot sun and salty air melt the snow. Very rarely do I have to make a path through a snow drift but on occasion it does happen. The other thing, where I live the high winds tend to blow the snow off the exposed driveway and into the woods. Get lucky there most storms. Flooding like we’ve had these past 2 storms is new to me. I had to cancel my flood insurance two years ago because it got too expensive. Now I pray and keep my fingers crossed. Exercise is good to keep you healthy and strong but we have to keep reminding ourselves that we are getting older. My mind doesn’t believe it but my body tells me so. Always good to hear from you my friend.

    • @phild8095
      @phild8095 6 месяцев назад

      @@SaltyheadAdventures I appreciate the concern. The walking the past couple years has been a great thing. And I'm not working snow like a teen. Little shovel fulls, pushing snow rather than carrying. And after clearing it the first time taking a break, have a snack, a bunch of water then go out with a scraper and remove the crust from the driveway. Then I go out the next day and get some more scraped. Because my wife has had both knees replaced and doesn't have the balance she once did. She needs a solid place to walk. And I take pride in my clear driveway. And with all the shoveling, snowblowing and scraping I've cut way back on walking the dog. We are barely averaging a mile a day this month. As far as the flooding do you have a plan B? Do you have spare clothes at your sister's home or at Anna's if you have to get out of Dodge? At least the north east wind doesn't blow waves directly into the side of Yarmouth that you live in.

Would of loved to see her . Mystic Seaport does beautiful work to bring back alot of old boats. A Whaler Boat is there. Just remember as you throw the boat . They weren't as tall as us today. Very low
