How To Remove A Screw That Just Keeps Spinning
Просмотров 720Месяц назад
Screws will sometimes spin in the hole when you try to remove them. This happens because the threads of the screw does not have anything to latch onto. The screw might sit in old wood that have rotted, or the screw does not have threads at the upper part like some woodworking screws does. So if you miss the stud behind paneling, it will be hard to remove the normal way. If we can access the bac...

Просмотров 112 месяца назад
The numbers on a cordless drill is for the drill clutch setting. The clutch setting indicates how much power you want the drill to drive into the screw before the clutch disengages. I'm thinking that for 3/4 inch plywood if the point doesn't go through when drilling half way, I'll use a small bit like 1/8 inch to go through to give me a guide for finishing the hole with the spade bit from the other side.

    no need to unchuck the bit. Just tap it a time or two on each side while still in the drill chuck.

    Odd that it kept biting into the split pieces, perhaps it would do better at splitting if it was less sharp?

      Yeah. If found that weird too. I've used it a lot in the same type of material. And this is the first time it happened. Maybe less sharp would be better, or my technique was a little bit off ATM. Anyhow, I do like the X5 axe.

      @@MySmallToolShed I have the X11 splitting axe, the shoulders come out more and it really fires wood apart. Fiskars axes aren't cheap, but they're not exactly expensive and they work beautifully.

    I just have masonry and metal tips. And built quite a few furniture pieces and wood contraptions. Metal bits work just fine, but my advice is to start with a small bit and go up to the desired size, as they're quite aggressive and can make a mess if you start with a big one.

  • @jeffman3

    It's been my observation that the dedicated wood bits are much less prone to splintering on breakthrough. With some care you can generally avoid the bit wandering as you start the cut but there's nothing much to be done to protect the back side of the piece unless you can clamp a sacrificial backing to it.

  • @Fine_i_set_the_handle
    @Fine_i_set_the_handle 5 месяцев назад

    Well if your using a steel bit just use a steel punch as well then your bit won't wander.
