How To Remove A Screw That Just Keeps Spinning

  • Screws will sometimes spin in the hole when you try to remove them.
This happens because the threads of the screw does not have anything to latch onto.
The screw might sit in old wood that have rotted, or the screw does not have threads at the upper part like some woodworking screws does. So if you miss the stud behind paneling, it will be hard to remove the normal way.
If we can access the backside of the wall, we can use a piece of wood to force the screw back until the threads of the screw make contact with the wood.
If that is not an option, we can use a thin piece of metal, like a cardscraper and dig it under the screw to create some upwards leverage.
