Preserving Cleveland's railroad heritage through preservation of the historic B&O Roundhouse in Cleveland's Flats District, restoration of locomotives (including the nationally-known GTW 4070 2-8-2 Mikado) and vintage rail cars, and education of the public through tours, open houses and ultimately creation of a museum on the site.
GTW 4070 Restoration: Q&A Part 1
You asked, we answered! Zach, Greg, and Steve discuss your questions and have a little fun along the way.

Is She Almost done and going to be steamed.
Lookin good! For xfine detail polishing, look for a polishing compound called Flitz. Works good! And don't forget to lacquer it to seal it and prevent tarnishing!
Great progress!
Keep up the great work!
Seems like a wasted opportunity to use Powerhouse (?) the factory music from every Looney Toons Short ever.
Not saying that the shades needed it, but I will say that I didn't realize that the shade brakes were brass until Art showed one that was polished
100 years later and there still going on about that miracle polish lol.
Adlake can make them new again. They are a bit pricey, but they do a nice job.
Most of the pieces yes! We’re going to have the shades themselves produced and stitched for us, then we’ll assemble them ourselves
You guys are doing amazing work by restoring the 4070! Don’t let any of the naysayers discourage you in any way shape or form. Whoever asked “CaN yOu EvEn FiX tHaT tHiNg?” is nothing but a troll. Some haters have nothing better to do these days.
Thank you so much for the Q&A video! I prefer 4070 to be an oil burner anyway because that allows more operating opportunities for 4070.
1:12
For Q&A part 2 When is the 4070’s restoration is going to be completed ? Where would you run it?
Stay tuned!
I'm not surprised in the slightest they mentioned 4070 will be converted to oil. While it is a shame I can understand their decision as coal prices have gone up these last few years and more steam engines I know of both operational or under rebuild have been planned or have been converted to oil.
Babe wake up MRPS just posted something about the 4070
4070 has a stoker? The Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range light Santa Fe (also a USRA type) at the National railroad Museum doesn’t. Now I imagine 4070 was either ordered that way or was equipped with one later In life. 506 on the other hand is still equipped to have the fireman fire it by shovel.
Back when 4070 was running, I don't believe the stoker was in operational condition. She was hand fired, but yes she has a stoker. I am pretty sure it was applied by the GT&W.
The duplex stoker was known to be cantankerous in Valley Line days, and hand firing is often needed to keep a fired “just right”
All USRA designs apart from the switches were equipped with stokers! The DM&IR often got engine secondhand, so who knows what may have caused those engines to be hand fired
@@midwestrailway I’ll have to take a closer look when I see it next! I thought I read the DM&NR received the USRA Santa Fe new during the war effort, but I maybe misread or didn’t look closely enough. They did also use them for quite a long time and may have taken them out on their own.
Ohio coal is not illegal. I use it often. And it is not that expensive. A good fireman can burn almost any type of coal. It takes skill to fire coal. The only time hot cinders are a fire hazard is in area's of very dry weather like out west, or if we have a very dry time here like in Aug. Which lately has not been happening. While converting to oil makes life a little easier on planning trips away from home rails, coal is still better and hotter when the fireman knows what he is doing. If you have your air right, you don't get any soot like you do with oil either. If your atomization on oil is not set right, it can even be explosive in the firebox. Oil fires can be blown out more easily, and if you can't tell, I am highly biased for coal the way it was meant to be. Besides as a non profit with in reason the EPA don't have much to say to you on the actual burning of coal. No offense to Mr. President but what you learned out west does not completely apply here because we have a totally different climate and political outlook. I wish you luck getting her running again some day. And I am glad to see you are trying to make repairs right this time. back when i worked on her in the 80's things were sure different. I don't remember if the crack was there or not, but I think it was.

Thanks for watching! 😀
theres a retired turntable in kc that has always captivated me. glad to see one still in usw!
If you kept the track clean, it probably would be in better shape........I mean, great job guys!
The ring rail being clean doesn’t have much to do with it. The rollers were worn down from years upon years of hanging up, dragging, and generally not being looked after
Personally I can not stand the sounds of metal in metal. And the loud af took
Sorry, hazards of being a working shop 😢
Well well well.. how the turn tables....
Get better material.
We do plan to replace the ceiling and use new fasteners when we reinstall 😁
Take off them welding gloves 😂
Oh hey, I actually managed to make an appearance in this despite my spotty attendance of late
5:12 Nice demonstration for the hard hat.
Not intentional on Greg’s part, but a good reminder nonetheless
What makes 4070 stand out mechanically or historically from other mikados?
How's the 4070 been going?
Do you plan to convert 4070 to burn oil over coal, much like the Big Boy and Reading 2100?
Will she go back to the Cuyahoga Valley ?
How do y’all get these old locomotives to fix? private buyers donating them, public grants?
He will like your comment but will never answer you. Typical videos nowadays. Skip all of them that are under 5 minutes, skip all that are over 20 minutes.
Have any locations have been selected or found to run 4070 at once she’s operating?
Are you going to be converting the locomotive to burn oil
This is for Reading 2100, they are converting to oil
Oh

How does this have over 100k dislikes but under 30 actual likes wtf?!
Because it's not entertaining to most people, it's literally just someone doing their job? I didn't ask to see this in my feed, neither did they
How you see that?
@user-nc6ce4vo4s that's what it showed on my end more dislikes by over 1000 times
It must have been a glitch because it shows 0 dislikes. Whew I was worried.
@bryangrassguy4111 this was propagated for you by a computer program based on clips you've like and or shared in the past. This is a great clip for those that like me want to works smarter not harder and it's the right way to do it unless otherwise mentioned. I enjoyed this video, even if you didn't want to see this video it doesn't mean you dislike it you just keep scrolling
