goes to show how much love these mighty beasts gets! with this much popularity steam locomotives may never expire! everyone loves those visible moving parts and those huffs and puffs
Great video on getting the information out for people to see! When most of the public call anyone on a train crew “Conductor”, exact terms aren’t anything to fuss about. It was well put together, concise, and got the message across. Good work.
I understand that UP4014 had a crack in the frame under the firebox. They had to heat up the whole frame on a bed of coal and then weld the crack. It took a week to cool down naturally. If you just weld a crack in a steam locomotive frame while it is cold, it will crack again.
We know all about welding the frame we have dealt with this and we do have qualify person to come in and do it. This repair will determine if it runs or become a static display.
It seems like there are several young people working on this project. Wonderful. It is good to see people interested in machines that helped build the USA. BUT - Where are you located? There is no contact onformation even though you suggest a warm welcome to your facilities. Welding on cast iron?? That is not so good. It makes the original material very brittle, which is why it cracked a second time.
Hi Robert we are located on 2800 West 3rd St in Cleveland Ohio. As far as welding we are welding the frame which is made of steel. Unfortunately the steam chest is right next to it. So we need to monitor the temperature around that area. This is the advice from several Lincoln Electric engineers that looked over the situations to handle it.
@@stevenkorposjr2913 Hello. Well that was a fast comeback. Thanks for the location. See you in September. The frame is cast steel, I assume. That will be a job and Lincoln is the place and people who know welding. I hope you are planning on hauling freight to generate revenue. Engines shouldn't be relegated to hauling tourist passengers. Make a deal with CSX for short haul runs. Just how much equipment do you have. I see other shops with same very heavy machinery. planers, Radial drills, big lathes, rolling mills and the ability to cut gears and other parts. Look at what the UP steam shops have and even they have to find outside suppliers to perform certain machining and make castings. Glad to see one more locomotive coming to life. There is a place for them.
When will you people at Midwest learn proper terminology concerning passenger car accommodations? The so-called " booths" are in fact what Pullman classified as "sections", consisting of the two facing bench seats which convert into a bed, with the upper berth folding down from the ceiling. Please familiarize yourselves with the Pullman accommodations.
Hey give the young adults a break! No wonder the younger generation doesn't want to get involved when people like yourself put them down. We all know they are sectional, which another term for them could be used such as booth.

@@NickelPlateDave the other one is located in Michigan and will later be moved to a railroad in Pennsylvania for restoration.
