Just One More Rock
Добавлен 31 авг 2023
Just One More Rock is a channel where I'll share some of my rockhounding adventures from Oregon and Washington.
I'll also be doing some creative projects in my rock carving, as well as simple slabbing, and some polishing in my...(building anticipation, wait for it, ta-da)...Cut, Carve, and Polish Series.
I love watching so many other rockhounding channels and one thing I love the most is when locations are shared since it's so helpful to get a head start as a rockhound. Although I'd love to do the same, I won't always do that. Many of the locations I try to get to are on sleepy country roads and sometimes by permission only from property owners so I try not to bring too much attention to those places out of respect for those that live close by. If I don't disrupt lives, then I'll likely be allowed back.
I hope you enjoy my adventures. Please comment and help develop this budding channel.
Thanks
Fred

$40 Cash on More Mystery Michigan Rocks - One Bag Revealed - Crinoid Calyx Geode with Botryoidal
Hey there friends,
Well I did it again... I dropped $40 cash on some more mystery Michigan rocks.
The bags are labeled so we get to know the material but the mystery is what the pieces look like.
These were tightly bagged up for transport from Michigan to Oregon. They made it here so now we get to see what's inside those bags.
I'm doing a reveal of only one bag at a time. I'll come back to the material to Cut, Carve, and/or Polish a bit later if the material allows.
I'm hoping for some cool stuff, because this geode is awesome, so please join me in future videos as we expose the mystery of our bagged Michigan rocks.
Thanks and take care.
Fred

Hello my RUclips family, I hope you're doing well because I'm excited for this one. I decided to gather 6 of the biggest Oregon Agates, from previous finds, that my saw could cut. These all had something great to see from the outside which is another reason for choosing them. What we found on the inside had me giddy. I think these may very well be the best agates I've cut this year...but one st...

Hi there, So the other day when I was recording my latest Cuttin' Uglies video "Ugly Ducklings...", I decided to try out an idea to cut rocks at night. I'd wondered how much I'd see them spark at night. Now I know...kind of, because they all spark different. I love how one rock will spark orange and blue during the same cut. Maybe different mineral contents at different parts of the rock??? Wel...

Hi friends, I was just itching to cut some rocks and it was getting dark by that time, as it will do earlier as we move into the end of the year, but I couldn't be stopped. @@jimdutcher6678 I know. I'm so excited to connect with my friend and get it done. I think it will be spectacular.
Seems you got it figured out. I find crinoid calyx geodes all over where I am in Kentucky. Can’t wait to see the rest.
@@JnVrockhounding I'm trying to connect with my friend Kay, the one who sold me the Thundereggs, because she has a large lapidary saw that will cut this geode in half. I feel the inside should be exposed to display as a beautiful piece. Oh and I'm jealous for your geode finds.
@ I have a couple hunt videos and cracking videos. Watch those and you’ll definitely be jealous lol.
@JnVrockhounding I just watched one and you're right, I'm jealous. Thanks for pointing me in the way of your video and channel. I just subscribed 👍.
@ thank you.
Cutting 1 down the middle could ruin the spine. It looks like a spine on the one side.
Petrified clay sounds mysterious 🤔
@@WOODnCHROME I know, I'm curious about that one as well. That one is fully unknown to me. I guess we'll see soon enough. Maybe I open that one in my next mystery bag video.
Fred, #9 might possibly be a fossil, maybe a sponge/stromatoporoid. But they're usually ancient, 500 to 600,000,000 years old. Could what you're looking at be that old? If it's glacial till maybe. It's still rock and roll to me😅😂😅😂😂
Ooohhh. I love that rock but I hadn't known of stromatoporoid. I'm glad you mentioned that because I looked it up. Yes it is possible it's one but the history I know of Clatsop Spit is that the glacial till was placed 8500 years ago, but that's not necessarily where they formed and maybe the rocks were moved multiple times and Clatsop Spit is it's last movement. The one thing by looking these up is that I seen images of these "plates" with a bumpy sort of alligator looking skin. I have a couple of those out of Washington but I didn't know what they were. You may have set me on the right path. Thanks bud. 🎸🎶😁
@just-one-more-rock It's always a pleasure texting with you Fred 🙂! I like a good geology "mystery". What kind of vehicle does Thor the thunder god drive? A cumulonimbus! Feel free to groan at any time.
@RickSmith-kp3sy The cheesier the better. One mans groan is another mans knee slapper. I appreciate our banter as well.
greeeeeeennnn
@@RHAHEHSHDHDH I guess you like some of the green rocks that come from here? I'm fond of them also but I also love the reds as well. When they are together then I'm stoked. I'm getting good response from cutting green rocks. Maybe I collect a dozen and cut them for an all green rock cutting video.
That was fun, Fred. And always enjoy watching family spending time together outdoors. #9 and the final one were sizzling 🔥. Looks like a great spot to collect at.
Yay, glad you enjoyed it. It was a great time out and hoping River will be in more of my videos but I'll take what I can get from my wonderful teen. I can hardly keep up with my younger kid Dylan when he hounds so I don't know when he'll make an appearance. Anyway, yes #9 might be my favorite. I knew you'd like that last one. Similar look to lightning stones from Michigan and if I remember correctly, your a fan of those and Petoskey stones.

Geodes and thundereggs have always been my favorite Fred
Well I guess I know how you're voting on this one. Thundereggs made it to the next round. What if Geodes made it to the next round and those two battle it out? Then you'd have to choose one. So many dilemmas in life but this is a fun one to have.

Oh wow. Congratulations on Just One More Grandchild. Yes, very true...every rock as unique as each one of us as individuals. Enjoy your grandmumming 😉
@Mummaearth I'm not good at identifying gold in my rocks if it's been there. I'll use my little 10x magnifier to see if I can see anything significant. Thanks.
The hexagon shapes are called petosky stones here in michigan
@@CherylMccrumb Yes, thank you. I appreciate all that share they're knowledgeable. Petoskey stone is now one I think I have locked in. I'm learning a lot from the experience. It will take me awhile to get all the terminology but I'm trying. Thanks
The last one looks like it could be brecciated jasper Fred. Like the green in there. My favorite dad joke. What do you call a hippies wife? Mississippi
@@RickSmith-kp3sy I think you're right about the Jasper but I'm not sure I'd call it brecciated. I'm still learning but I felt I'd need to see more individual pieces that are cemented together. I'll take all advice though. Why is the Mississippi such an unusual river? Because it has 4 I's but can't see.
Good to see you enjoying a satisfying cutting of your finds. Beautiful material!

@@just-one-more-rock I can’t wait!!!!
6:46 Looks like a flying dinosaur head and beak to me Fred! Love your enthusiasm! Just started polishing myself. Started with a Botswana agate. Abject failure. 😅😂Gonna start all over again like the song says. Is that some amethyst in the pocket of your last agate? Looks like some decent purple in there to me.🤔 And since you've got so much color in the last one, How much do rainbows weigh? Not much, they're pretty light.
I see it. Looks like a pterodactyl. Why can't you hear a pterodactyl going to the toilet? Because they're all dead 😮... thought I was going to say because the P is silent, didn't you 😂 Sorry about the first cut not working out for you but once you start, you'll be addicted so you'll have many winners ahead of yourself... especially cutting material like that. There is a light purple in there, which is why I wanted to cut deeper. It just wasn't enough purple for me to call it amethyst. Maybe next time. I hear there's some in the hills near me. Have to explore next spring.
Nice set bud,I'm just getting into agates. Dig your style
@@WOODnCHROME Awesome...enjoy your agate adventure. Good luck. Thanks, I appreciate it.

Carnelian What field of study did Dr. Pepper get his doctorate? He was a fizzicist.
@@RickSmith-kp3sy Noice! Ok, so this will be a dumb one because I'm making it up on the fly. It's probably already a joke but I haven't heard it. What did the apple say to the orange to get a date? Your orange is a-peeling? I'm going to have to start making up geology puns soon. Keep em' coming, funny guy 😆
What did the female rock say to the male rock? You’re a hard one to break through to. Bahaha made that one on just now!
@sherry2483 Oh you're a cut above the rest 😁. I'm starting to wonder if I should have started a dad joke channel 😂
@just-one-more-rock I'll try to tone it down a little. Rocks, critters and dad jokes are my weaknesses.
What did the rocks name their kid? Sandy, a chip off the old block!
Just saying. I didn't think that 4 votes in we'd have 100% Quartz Crystal. I guess it's all relative. I thought carnelian would have the head start. Well then... let's go Quartz Crystal 🎉
Wow, that's tough. Fossils
Jasper
@@RickSmith-kp3sy Yep, I think Jasper is going to be the clear winner this week unless some huge Amber fans add their votes.
Did you vote on the video?
@@just-one-more-rock I thought I voted for jasper Fred???
@RickSmith-kp3sy You probably did. I can't see who votes. I just thought I'd throw it out there since you commented as well. Wanted to make sure you didn't think your comment was the vote. Thanks bud
I was recently in the Prince George area of British Columbia, I found those "sugar agates" and a few exciting pieces to add to my collection as I'm from North Western Ontario. I'd love to come back to the west coast to collect more rocks. I had to laugh at the name of your channel- Often, in my travels, I get sidetracked in collecting rocks that catch my eye and the person I'm with gets impatient and tells me that's enough rocks- but then suddenly, another rock will catch my eye as I'm trying to depart.
I'd love to get to BC someday. Beautiful up there. If you're ever in my area, hit me up. I'd love to connect with my viewers on a hounding trip if I ever had a chance. I have a video where I cut some of these and will probably polish a couple of the nice big ones in a future vid. Yes, it was a very fitting name for the channel. If you looked at my homepage banner you'll see me hugging onto a quartz boulder while I'm being pulled away by my leg. That's my life in an image. Also the lives of many of you so we definitely all understand that need for Just One More Rock 😁
Fred, you are always bringing fun ideas in your videos. Keep it up!
@@jimdutcher6678 Thanks...so many ideas, so little time. I'll do my best to keep fun ideas coming.
Cool video. Brazilian agates and Botswana agates are great for sparking.
Don't know if and when I'll ever get any of those but thanks for the info. AgateDad does a lot of the Botswana and other exotic agates, I think.
😂 Not recording would be something I would do! It's ok. The sparky night cutting was neat and I've not seen anyone do that purposely before. Also I was wondering if they would look much different if dipped in some water? I don't know because I don't do cutting and definitely not a pro. Just curious 🤔 Thanks for sharing. P.S. I'm having my sister make me a hoodie. I'm wearing it to Haunted Ridge Rocks this weekend for the Crystal Collector event. It's gonna have my username LezBeRockin 💜 and I came up with this: Twinkle twinkle sparkly rocks. How I want you. The End. ✨
I've done it multiple times. I like the idea myself...even though it was mine, but I think it can be perfected and be spectacular but more learning and trying things out. Maybe I'll kick up the water when cutting at night. It might be light one of those water light shows. Good shared idea, thanks. I'm far from any expert either, I think it's obvious. Many of us aren't... maybe that's how we relate. Just some diehard rock fans trying to have a good time. That sounds like fun. Enjoy yourself. Perfect poem 😂. Straight to the point and so true. Oh hey...if anyone happens to be talking rockhounding while you're there and you bring me up...I wouldn't mind 😉
@just-one-more-rock Of course!! When I said that about the water, I meant when you're showing them at the end. ☺️ Sometimes the water enhances the beauty 😍
@@LezBeRockin73That is true...it does help. I use mineral oil for that but I could have used more. It did kind of dry up before I shot the footage. I had things set up to record and got called away by family. I forgot to add more when I got back before recording. I like the oil because it doesn't dry as quickly as water... especially if it's warm out or I'm in the sun. Plus then I'm not dripping water everywhere. Thanks for the suggestion. 👍
@just-one-more-rock ohhhh ok gotcha. Mineral oil. I'm going to have to try that! 🙂 Family first 💜 I always enjoy your videos. See ya next time

I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching.
Definitely some interesting stuff especially that last one. Just never know.
That's why I love cutting' uglies. So unpredictable. It's wonderful to see bands in obvious agates or obvious features in beautiful rocks, but the absolute unknown of an ugly rock is kind of thrilling adventure.
Jasper
Let's go Jasper. I love the look of amber but it's not anything I can find in Oregon, as far as I know so I'm partial to Jasper. Amber is a big thing in other areas though and I can see there's some voting for it already so this could be another close one. Thanks for your vote.

The last two I liked. I agree cutting the next to the last one again sounds like a good plan.
@@sherry2483 I was thinking of cutting it again but I may just grind it down into a pendant or something. There's not a lot of material there so if I cut it then I'm not sure what I'll be left with. I may just have to flip a coin on that one. If I do something with it then I'll post it.

You can email me at just1morerock@gmail.com and I think I can send it to you in a file. 🤔
Funny video Fred. I have a question on your polishing setup. Are you using a regular angle grinder or a slow speed one? Do you have any issues with it shorting out from getting wet?
@@RWOxner Thanks. I'm using a variable speed angle grinder. I forget the rpm range but it gets too fast to manage so I'm working within the first 3 speeds only, mostly first 2. This was a discounted open box Harbor Freight deal for $8. No instructions, ho handle. Yes, shorting out has recently started happening. What I've been doing lately, when not recording, is I place a shoe box sized tote lid over the body so the water runs off forward. I'm so low budget but I'm working on a plan to turn it into a more traditional flat lap so I'll do a video of that. It will be made of inexpensive every day stuff from any basic hardware store so many people can be capable of doing it themselves if they choose.
So fun! Thank you for sharing!

Great clip both my daughter and grandson watched with me - grandson only 7 and just into rocks this year and both loved as i did the agates in the pumpkin too !
@@Mummaearth You did that also? That's great. I'm glad they enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing with the kiddos.
Lol. Very creative and cool video.
@@JnVrockhounding It's out there for a rockhounding and lapidary channel but I am who I am, and I like to have fun. I'll assume not everyone will appreciate it but I can't please everyone all the time, if that's the case. Glad you enjoyed...I knew some of my people would 😀.
@ it was a fun and creative video. Lol
Fun with rocks!
@@nancywilson9380 It was fun. Kids liked it 🎃😀
That was cool Fred!!! Love the agates for eyes and the mouth! Talk about your stone cold stare!😅 Why don't skeletons ever start a fight? They don't have the guts! Happy Halloween 🎃💀
Ha 😂. Why was the gemstone scared to take his test? Because he was afraid he wasn't going Topaz. Oh that one was bad 😆 Thanks
Ever been to Kootenai country montana Alberta border area?
@@WOODnCHROME No, never. Why you ask? 🤔
@just-one-more-rock there's some awesome celadonite crystals in green stone along with amybgoidal river stones with green glass and white garnet in some of those stones also copper and gold sheets
@just-one-more-rock look up the lost Lemmon mine in the early days of montana territory, the tobacco plains camp is a site I have claim and mineral rights ,just barely getting thru the top layers of a tailings dump bit awesome native green stone with celadonite crystals and aluminum crystals in basalt along with some unidentified stone
@@WOODnCHROME Wow, sounds wonderful. Now I want to go. 😁
@@WOODnCHROME I'll look that up. You have a claim? I guess you're the guy I look up if I'm ever heading that way if you want some company. Sounds like you have a lot of fun ahead of yourself. I'm jealous.

15 OMG!!! Sorry for so many comments I’m watching at work.
@@sherry2483 Never be sorry for commenting. Comment all you want. It's what I hoped for when I started the channel. To have people enjoy and be engaged enough that they would want to take a moment to write something. The algorithm likes it, and I love it 😁 Oh, and 15 is my favorite.
That yellow orange one is so cool. #13
@@sherry2483 You can see how I reacted...13 is a great one also.
