Hi, I'm Jackie, and hand-painting paper for mixed media art is my favorite hobby. (I hope it becomes yours, too!)
Somedays, I paint with a specific purpose, but most days, I spend a little time in the studio exploring and creating intuitively. This puts me in a state of experimentation and wonder. My work excites me, and I hope it inspires you to try new things.
For many of us, painting paper was one of the first things we learned to do in school, and you know what? We were not expected to create "art." Somewhere along the way, many of us were made to feel less than great about our creativity, so we stopped, which is a shame.
I invite you back to a place of play and exploration through this channel. We are not painting for a tangible result but simply to feel good.
Having said that, I have five rules that I live by in my studio - and you should, too. 😀 If you want to know them, sign up for my mailing list below, and I'll send them to you.

I’ve been reading that one should only use soft body paint on the gel plate. Can I just add a paint thinner medium to my paint? Thank you for sharing wise words. Painting is my happy place and I love exploring different techniques. Just using what I have at the moment to paint papers for later use in a new project with mixed media. Need creative endorphins today lol ❤
Hi Anke! I've never heard that before. I use all sorts of acrylic paints, inks and pens (posca/sharpie) on my plates. My favorite paint to use is fluid acrylic I love the way it flows, and you can control the amount you use easily. I have never used oil paints on my plate (I don't have any), and I would be careful using any type of solvent mediums like paint thinner. Maybe someone else here on the thread has tried that and can comment. 🥰

I came across your channel a few days ago when I was searching for mixed media projects. I like your style- kind of quirky and organic. I’ve been scrapbooking and making greeting cards for 20 years but over the last year have ventured out into mixed media which is really my niche and I incorporate it into scrapbooking pages and greeting cards. I do a lot of gel press on my projects and am ready to start an art journal. This video has inspired me to start with the grid as you have shown me. This is such a great question! I have an old, very thick, wool rug that covers the entire floor in the studio. it sits on top of a pad on my hardwood floor. I am pretty sure everything is alright underneath, but I'm not going to roll it up to see. 😂

I just discovered your channel and I'm so happy I did! I find your instructions very thorough and easy to follow. I started my viewing with your video on conditioning a new plate (wish I had seen it earlier!) and loved the use of the medical exam paper. The link you included has two types on it, crepe or smooth) though crepe is what is highlighted on the product page. Before I order I hope you can confirm which type you use. Thank you!
Hi Mary! Crepe is the one I usemost. I've used the smooth, but it doesn't get as transparent at the crepe (in my tests). I'm so happy you're here and hope you're having lots of fun with your gel plate!
@@PaintedPaperStudio Thank you! I just ordered a box. It is so inexpensive! I'm sure I will have a roll or two to share with my young grandchildren. I haven't had a lot of time to experiment but what I have done so far has been very enjoyable. I have been collecting different papers and sample tubes from a few manufacturers.
