I bought the medical exam paper and YES, when you wet it then past it, it is transparent. I did two side by side one wet and the other not and got the same results, the dry one was only translucent. I just wanted to thank you again for all the work you put in this experiment, I think the result is a game changer. I never really liked the look of the translucent. This is great!!! I also found two rolls 14" x 225' for 16$, I'm not sure if the 225' is per roll or combined though. Either way, it's a lot of paper for the price. And, I used it on my gelli plate and it pulls of nicely! IT'S A WIN WIN!! Thanks again!!! OHH I almost forgot, I applied the paint to the side that has a little texture on it. Not sure yet it that will make any difference or not.
Thank you soooooo much!! This has helped me massively in my new journey. I have been a photographer/digital artist for over 20+ years - but my soul has been yearning to paint especially mixed media. Thank you Jackie for taking the time to do this thorough experiment for us. I would never have guessed the difference gloss or matte medium would make! I love to work with transparent papers and I’ll be saving this video for sure.
That terrific, Gina. I am so glad you liked it! And yes, the gloss and matte mediums really did have such different effects. Thank yoou for watching. 🥰
Oh my dear, Jackie 🤩 You really are methodical and systematic in this video and I love it. Watching you making marks is always a pleasure anyway, because I can see the fun that you have while doing it. I´ve already used delipaper for making marks and it served my purposes well. But in this video you are definitely lifting the experiments to a higher level. Overworking your video was obviously worth it. Thank you so much for sharing the results. You are inspiring. It's true, Maureen - they do vary and I suggest you experiment. But the coffee filter paper I used is linked to in the description and it does gets very transparent when glued with gloss medium. If you do it, please let me know how your experiments come out. 🥰

Hello, lovely Jackie 🫶! Thank you for your hard work and love for exploring. I'm pretty sure there is no other video on YT like yours. Seven different papers ... wow! Matte Medium or any matte product) contains a matting agent, which is tiny particles to scatter the light. As a general rule, use all gloss products until the final step to avoid a build up of these matting particles.
Fascinating experiment with transparent/translucent papers. I will definitely try this myself. I enjoy rice and tissue papers - but have never tried coffee filters, teabag paper, doctor's office paper and the others. So much to explore! Also - were you collating in a recipe cookbook? Do you do that often - use books to collage in? I was curious about that. My name is Liz, btw. Thanks.
Hi Liz! Yes, the collage was placed in an old cookbook and I love using it for that purpose. I used to collect cookbooks - I had a couple hundred! When I started to simplify it was time to release them. Unfortunately, libraries really don't want old and obscure cookbooks. I was able to give away many, but the rest I saved for "sketchbooks" this way the don't end up in a landfill (at least not for a long time). The pages of this cookbook are thick and satin-y. A perfect substrate to play on. I highly encourage it. As for the papers you haven't tried yet, be prepared to fall in love with them 🥰
Fabulous video Jackie, I’ve only used tissue paper, so look forward to using grease proof paper and maybe some others.Learning so much with you. Thanks for sharing❤
What an amazing exploration you have done here Jackie…and it is perfect timing for me as I have been learning collage and wanting to incorporate transparent and translucent papers and wasn’t sure which papers would be best to use. I have tissue, deli, rice, teabag, wet strength tissue and now I need coffee filter paper and medical exam paper. Also LOVE the idea of using silicone candy molds for mark making! If this is the video you mentioned in last week’s newsletter, it was well worth waiting for 💕

Extremely helpful video. Very grateful for you sharing this study. Im also happy to hear how to adhere with gloss medium. Ive usually only use matte, this was a lightbulb moment. 😊
Jackie, thank you for this informative video. I have been "experimenting" with transparency and really appreciate your very thorough study. Keep it up.
Thank you, Maggie! I am very excited for you. Learning and playing with papers is a wonderful way to expand your creativity. Thank you for being here. 🥰

Now I'm so looking forward to watching more of your videos and catching up 💕
As a beginner, I'm always looking for different substrates to play with. Re the medical exam paper; I instantly googled where to buy in Australia, no luck, so I tried normal tissue paper (very fiddly) I've recently found Greaseproof Paper in a supermarket and it looks similar to the medical exam stuff. Maybe this has been tried already but thought I'd post it here in case it helps anyone. There is the waxed side and a non-waxed side. I experimented similarly to what you did and it is translucent (not sure about totally transparent). Thank you
Hi Lichen! I have discovered that the paper is called different things in different countries. I just googled it for Australia and this is what came back - exam table paper, doctor roll, or medical table paper. Another really good alternative (more translucent than greaseproof) is teabag paper. You are 100% right - regular tissue paper is too fiddly, and (in my opinion, impossible to use. Thank you so much for watching and sharing! 🥰
I'm so happy you're going to make your own chart, Cole. For some reason the voiceover audio dropped out at that moment, and I didn't catch it before uploading. Once uploaded there's nothing you can do. Thank you for letting me know though. 🥰
Oh my goodness - how did you know that? It's funny; I signed up for this channel a year ago, but I didn't post my first video until July of 2023 (I was too nervous 😂) Thank you for the birthday wishes! 🥰
Thank you for filming this, it’s very informative and helpful. Also, thank you for linking to the specific products. (P.S. I’m astonished at the translucency of the medical exam paper.)
Love this, so interesting as I always though Wet Strength would be the winner! ha! and love your use of shells to hold your medium....that I wouldn't have thought of, but I actually have some! Looking forward to another video on taking this idea forward! 🤩
Thank you, Tamara. Originally I thought the wet strength would be in the top 3. I was truly shocked about the medical exam paper being the winner winner chicken dinner 😂
So helpful Jackie, thank you 🙏🏻. You answered a question for me re deli paper being the same as grease proof too 😊. I’ve been looking at rice paper so it’s great timing and maybe avoid the very thin to begin with. Wonderful as ever and I’m looking at my cookbook’s I no longer refer to and give them a new purpose 😊. Thank you beautiful creative, you inspire many of us here 🙏🏻🤗🙏🏻 💗
You are so kind, Andrea. The deli paper/greaseproof paper debate continues. Some have suggested here that they are not the same. I think I'm going to have to order some from the UK and do my own tests. Just another experiment to look forward to 😍 I'm so happy your here, Andrea. 🥰
I think deli paper is much lighter and usually unwaxed (or very lightly waxed) than greaseproof paper and I think other baking paper has a silicone layer. It's quite complex! I'm in UK
You're right it is very complex, Jane 😂. I have a dear friend visiting the UK next month and I'm going to ask her to bring back some greaseproof paper so I can experiment. If you have an alternative idea for a paper that you think is closer to deli paper in the US, I'd love to hear it. I'd love to have a definitive answer to this question. Thank you so much for watching. 🥰

Extremely helpful video. Very grateful for you sharing this study. Im also happy to hear how to adhere with gloss medium. Ive usually only use matte, this was a lightbulb moment. 😊
Hi Paula! I just love creative lightbulb moments. Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to let me know what you thought. 🥰
Jackie, thank you for this informative video. I have been "experimenting" with transparency and really appreciate your very thorough study. Keep it up.
Thank you, Gayle! I think playing with transparency is such a fun way to explore new ways of creating. Keep up the experimentation 🥰
I enjoyed your video very much, This is the first time that I have been learning composition and using the technique of papers🎉🎉🎉
Thank you, Maggie! I am very excited for you. Learning and playing with papers is a wonderful way to expand your creativity. Thank you for being here. 🥰
This is fantastic!! I use these types of mark-making techniques in my art and your willingness to provide such a thorough experiment on this is extraordinarily helpful!! I am subscribed to your channel now and am SO pleased to have found you! Thank you Jackie! 😊👍❤
I love hearing this! Thank you for being here 🥰
Thank you Jackie for all the inspiration you send out into the world! New subscriber here, after stumbling over this video. I too love exploring! I need to see and feel things happening myself so will make my own study boards but now I have some new ideas for them. And that candy making silicone thing, love those marks! Now I'm so looking forward to watching more of your videos and catching up 💕
I LOVE it, Christina! Yes, please make your own boards - they are incredible resources! I'm so happy you found your way here, welcome. 🥰
Super helpful interesting. Thanks so much Jackie 👏🌈

Great experiment. All of the info was so helpful as I am new to gel printing, mark making, and collage.
That makes me so happy, Mary Ellen! Have fun playing and experimenting as you go. 🥰
Thank you for this wonderful video! I am just learning Mark Making and this is sooo helpful!!
You're welcome, Tara - perfect timing! 🥰
A huge help-thanks for doing ALL that work. I hope to do this study with my own papers thankyou thank you
Oh please do, Sue! It will give you so much more info than I could convey in one video. 🥰
Your amazing! Thank you so much for taking so much of your time to teach us!! I learn so much from all your videos ❤❤❤
Thank you, Kelly - YOU are amazing! I really loved making this video and I'm so happy you enjoyed it. 🥰
Great Video!! Thanks for doing all the work for us!! Appreciate you!❤
Thank you, Carol - and I appreciate you! 🥰
Love the chart… running to the studio to make my own! At 17 ish min there is a little clip of a podcast or something. Thought you would want to know
I'm so happy you're going to make your own chart, Cole. For some reason the voiceover audio dropped out at that moment, and I didn't catch it before uploading. Once uploaded there's nothing you can do. Thank you for letting me know though. 🥰
Its always good to experiment. Thankyou Jackie. ❤
100% Truth, Andrea! Thank you for watching. 🥰

🎉Happy birthday to your RUclips channel!!💗🥂🎂 you rock Jackie! Thanks for your good work.Do in Paris🗼🤗😉✨️
Right?! It's crazy that such a weird piece of paper would do the coolest thing. Thank you for being here, Ochre! 🥰
Lovely work, Jackie❤ Very interesting too!
Hi Cindy, nice to see you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. 🥰
❤ Thank you!!!!
You're welcome, Joanna! 🥰
Thank you, very prwcticle.
Glad it was helpful, Judy! 🥰
Great experiment and I learned a lot. Thank you Jackie!
Thank you, Geri - glad you enjoyed it.
🙏🏻😘🙏🏻
Excellent exercise in comparisons.
Thank you very much, Mrs. Jones! 🥰
Thanks!
Mary Ellen, thank you, I appreciate you. 🥰😍🥰
Great video 😍👏 and so much information 😊 Im learning a lot 🙏🥰 lots of love from Arctic Norway 🥰🍀🌼🌸
Hi Lena! Thank you for your lovely words and for watching the video. 🥰
This was incredibly helpful. Thanks so much.
You're welcome, Elizabeth - it was a fun video to make. 🥰
Fantastic. Thank you!
You're very welcome, Gidge. This was one of my absolute favorites to film. 🥰
Thank you so much!! really so helpful!
I'm so happy it was helpful for you, Dawn!
Thanks so much! This was so helpful!
You're welcome, Andrea. Thank you for watching! 🥰
