Triangle Shawl
This is a simple basic shawl knitting pattern creating a beautiful diagonal shape. You start with casting on 3 stitches which is the center of the top of the shawl. Then you complete two increase stitches at the center and the ends of each right side row resulting in a beautiful triangle shape. I chose bold colors and did a stockinette and garter stitch striping, but you can be creative and choose a solid or multi colors and create your own stripe pattern. Follow along with the video for full step by step instructions and you can also follow along with the free written pattern. The link to the pattern is below.

Knitting Cables: Two fun variations to learn!
Hi! You mention using number 6 DPNs but my medium weight yarn recommends number 8 needles... I'm a beginner so i don't know how to decide what size needles too use??
Yes a number 8 is usually recommended for a medium weight yarn. However for mittens I like to go down a couple sizes so the result is a more dense fabric making for a warmer mitten. Hope that helps.
This is the best explanation I have seen on this process. Thanks for your clarity.
You are so welcome. Glad to hear it was helpful.
❤thank you ! I love the home made pon pom maker .v.nice video and helpful 😊

Hi jac, have you got adults bennies, and can you show us a toddler's bennies
I have a few videos on adult size beanie hats. See links below. Also this baby hat will also work nicely for a toddlers hat. Just cast on more stitches. Maybe 8-10 more and knit for a few more rounds before ending. A quick and easy knitted hat. The Slip and Purl Hat! ruclips.net/video/tzK7PApNs_4/видео.html Learn how to knit this hat with the Bamboo Stitch. ruclips.net/video/-ymWhf2d_0s/видео.html Basic Beanie Hat: Full instructions on how to knit a hat for absolute beginners. ruclips.net/video/7HAI50qrkrE/видео.html
This video just made my day! I’m new to knitting and thought I was doing something SO wrong because my fabric kept curling!! Thank you for saying it’s inevitable! lol.
Yes. It is not you!! Hope you found some tips on different things to try.
I’ve started a hat and have found that you have to tighten up the pearl rounds or you will have a bulkier side.
Yes this may happen if you find that your purling is a looser tension than your knit. If you can tighten that up that will help. I made a baby hat in double knit and both sides were equal but my tension may be different than yours.
Could I make this with smaller yarn and 3 mm needles or will it be way too tight then? :) That's all I have
Yes. You would need to cast on more stitches. I would recommend starting with casting on 44 stitches and see how that fits around your wrist once you have several rounds completed. You would also want to increase the gusset size continuing to do increases every 3rd round until you have like 15 stitched between your markers. You may also need to knit more rounds for the hand, cuff, and thumb. Hope that helps. Thanks for reaching out.
@@jacqknits thanks a lot for answering ❤️🥰 I'll try it this evening.
I love this pattern! Finished my first hat in this style and have plans to make a bunch more! I especially like that it is very easy to size up or down for head size and yarn thickness. Just ensure about 2 inches between each rib and count how many stitches you will need of the yarn you want to use. Thank you so much for this one!
You are so welcome! Yes so easy to size. I’ve made several as well. Enjoy!
Would you consider doing a full double knit hat ‘knit along’ tutorial? I will pay money for that. This is master knitting stuff right here and I’m ready to step up.
I have wanted to do one for a while but haven’t had the time yet to find a good yarn and size combination. I still have on my list to do.
Im using the exact same needles (size and length) and yarn size as you, but my cast on doesnt reach around the whole needle set. So i cant continue stitching, simce itll create a REALLY long straight tail between the end and the beginning. Not sure what im doing wrong? I counted 66 4 times
Your first couple rounds are also a big stretch around the needles. The stitches are far apart but once you get a couple rounds complete and have more volume it becomes easier to knit and the stitches fill in. Try a couple rounds even if the stitches seem far apart. If that doesn’t work you can always try using double pointed needles to knit in the round and switch to your circular needles after a couple rounds.
Thanks for sharing this tutorial it's helpful 🎉🎉
Great. Glad it was helpful!
This is way beyond me. I enjoyed it tho
Thank you. I hope you give it a try sometime. You can do it!!
Thank you for the pattern. You are amazing at explaining.
You’re welcome 😊 Glad you enjoyed!
Thank you for showing me this. I am trying my first mitts on the magic loop
You can do it! A great way to knit in the round.
Very beautiful ❤can we use straight needles??
As your triangle shawl grows so does the number of stitches on your needles. You would need a long circular needle to accommodate so many stitches as straight needles would be too short.
Thanks
Thank you so much
You're most welcome
U are the best ❤
Thanks!!!
hi, my hands are pretty small & im 16. how many stitches do you think I should cast on? thanks !
For this stitch you need to cast on a multiple of 5 stitches plus 2. For my sample I did 32. I would first try 27 stitches and see how that feels. If that is still too large go to 22. Hope that helps.
@@jacqknitsthank you
What about with out circular needle
You can certainly knit these with flat needles. Just cast on stitches, knit the k1, P1 sequence for each row for as long as needed and cast off. Then just take your sides and seam together from the bottom up. Then to close the top take your yarn from the seaming of the sides and weave back and forth through the cast off edge and pull to cinch up the top and secure the end. Hope that helps.
@@jacqknits thank you so very much
I want to try these. Thank you
Please do! So easy.
Thank you for the tutorial. If I knit 6 rows of garter stitch as a boarder, will the chevron stitch pattern I start in row 7 pull the initial 6 rows into the chevron shape? Thank you for your help.
Yes. That’s exactly what it will do. You’ll start to see it take shape several rows into your chevron pattern.
Hello! Thank you for this, great instructions. To make two-color fisherman’s rib, with all the turning and sliding work, does this selvage work?
I am in fact working on some samples doing a two color fisherman’s rib knitted flat but I haven’t yet figured out a good selvage edge for this. So stay tuned. Hopefully I can figure out a process that will work well and can produce a video on it.
Beautiful Beautiful tutorial ....thank you so much
You’re welcome 😊
Actually, I have a question about beginning the corners.... which cast-on method would produce the best sharp/crisp corners for my potholders? I use the long tail cast-on method starting with a slip knot for the first loop. Is there a better/more aesthetically pleasing way to add the first loop to the needle? Thanks so much for your help!🙏♥️
I do the long tail cast on but I never start with a slip knot. I don’t like to have that knot at the start. My first loop over with the yarn counts as my first cast on stitch.
For how much to cast on is that gonna be how long the gloves are or how wide the gloves are? I want shorter gloves and I don't know if that means less casted on or less rows. I'm an absolute beginner so any help would be appreciated!
The amount of the cast on stitches will determine how wide your mittens are. If you want shorter mittens knit for fewer rows. Thanks for reaching out.
Great video and you have beautiful hands. I love this pattern, especially the I-cordish selvedges. However, I have ADD and undiagnosed comprehension issues and so I am accustomed to "fighting" to learn new things. With your permission, I would like to post my understanding of the pattern. I need to rely on "reading" the work or I lose track of my work. After the setup row, you are knitting the stitches as they present themselves, keeping in mind that the knit stitch in the selvedge is a plain knit and not K1B. Regardless, you should be alternating a knit stitch with a purl stitch. I had to cast on an odd number of stitches + 6 to make it work. I am 8 rows in at this point and really looking forward to working this beautiful scarf. At 66 (today is my birthday), I am more of a process knitter, trying to perfect my tension. For me this is better meditation than the expensive meditation course I took years ago.
Sounds like you got it right. Just remember that on the selvedge you are knitting the knit stitches but the purl stitches you are slipping purlwise with the yarn in front. You are not actually purling those stitches in those first three stitches and last three stitches of each row, Hope that makes sense. Best of luck with this, sounds you are off to a great start and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
@@jacqknits Thank you. So far so good!
Perfect video!!! But how long does it take to knit mitten as a beginner and a professional like you?! I hope I can get an answer fast 😁
I’m not sure I really timed myself. But I think for me it takes about 2 to 3 hours or so to knit one mitten. For a beginner maybe an hour or so more? Not really sure.
Wow, this is cool !
Thanks. Give it a try!!
Could I do this same technique with ribbing that is 2 stitches wide?
Yes. Just on your set up round knit 2 with color A and then knit 2 with color B. On the ribbing rounds and all subsequent rounds knit 2 with color A with both yarns in back. Then bring color B to the front and purl 2 and then repeat. That should look really nice.
@@jacqknits thank you! Your video was really helpful!
This is a great tutorial, thank you. I tried to teach myself how to crochet a circle shawl many years ago but the circle became wavy and the shawl became a dog blanket. Be I have seen your video I’m going to try again. 😊
Glad it was helpful! Hope you give it a try again soon!!
I have seen 4 different types of ways this pattern is, with all of them being very helpful in their own right. However, it is yours that I will likely follow from now on, mainly because it has all the elements that I have previously learned, just wrapped into one video! From the selvedges, to the pattern itself, I’m very glad to have found your video! I can only imagine how frustrating patterns could have been without the use of technology. It’ll help visually for people like me! Thanks again, ma’am!
You are very welcome. Glad this one hit the mark for you.
This looks about my speed. :) I just started but wondering why I have a gap where the first knitting in the first row began. I notice you don’t have that. Will I be able to fix it later?
Yes if you have a gap in the first row where you cast on at the end you can take your tail from the cast on and stitch to close that up.
@@jacqknits thank you!
@@jacqknits also I love how you hold your needles doing this. It looks so much faster than what I do but can’t seem to mimic it.
I have a video going live in the future that shows exactly how I hold my needles. It is continental knitting. I think generally it is a faster way to knit once you get the hang of it.
Hi, do you have to use double pointed needles or can you use a regular needle?
You can certainly use straight needles. They would just have to be long enough to hold all your stitches.
@@jacqknits Thank you so much!! What size needles would you recommend?
I think I say in the video but for that super bulky weight yarn I would do a size US size 13.
I was I tear s with o theres instructions and disappointed with myself but you’re the best teaching so far Tank you ❤
You are so kind! Thank you!
Can’t wait to start!
Good luck. I'm sure it will be great!
Wonderful video!
Thank you! Cheers!
Is it at all possible to do 2-colour corrugated ribbing in double knit? I am planning a wedding gift a van double knit and I an stumped on how to do corrugated ribbing on both sides of doubl knit…(Sep 25, 2024)
Hmmm, that is a good question and I have not tried that. It would take some time to determine with a sample swatch. However, my initial thought is that you may want to follow the technique for basic double knitting with stockinette on both sides and then just alternate which color yarn you are knitting for each stitch front and back. It may be a bit tedious way to knit, but it may be do-able. As I said I have not tried it myself, but I would be interested to know if you gave it a try.
Thank you so much for your excellent videos ❤ I have a question please: do you have a pattern for a "balaclava" for kids around 3 - 4 years ? Thank you again
Thank you. I do not have a pattern for that but it would be an interesting item to create. I’ll have to put it on my list. Thanks for the suggestion.
This is exactly what I was looking for! I am about to start my first colourwork sweater and was looking for a video on how to avoid the jog in the round, but the only videos I could find were for stripes. I was confused as to when to use this trick in fair isle knitting (every time I switched colours or just when going from one round in an entire color to another round in an entire color or something else) but it makes sense to just do it every round! Many many many thanks!!!
Glad it was helpful! Best of luck on your sweater. I’m sure it will turn out beautiful!!
Great video.
Thanks for the visit
Thank you for a very helpful video, double knitting is my new frontier for this year🤞
